So I don’t know about you, but I just love having days where I never really get dressed and just hang around the house in my pjs. It may not be complete downtime… there’s always some cleaning and basic chores that need doing, and of course I’m always doing something for my blog, but just the act — or “non-act” as it were — of not even putting on “real” clothes can be utterly delicious.  It just feels decadent and pampering, even if I end up logging in remotely to my office and working for a full day, the fact that I’m doing it in pj’s just makes it more bearable and even somehow “bad”.  And who doesn’t like being bad now and then lol?  But even if just for an hour or two before or after bedtime, this is definitely a perfect outfit for lounging comfortably…

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season are the lights.  I just love walking the dog after dark, and seeing all the decorations lit up in the dark… even though they’re the same night after night, they still make smile, each and every time.  That’s why one of my favorite parts of this year’s SL Christmas Expo — which you hopefully know by now is the last mega-event of the year for Relay for Life and it’s fight against cancer (this event’s mission is specifically raising money to fight children’s cancer) — is the 2nd Annual Lights of Hope Decoration Contest, where they take those beautiful outdoor decorations that I enjoy so much here in the real world and do them up big time inworld.  I’ve included the poster below with some of the particulars, and to quote the formal description:

“Each of the builders has decorated the outside of one of their stunning houses in holiday style and brought it to the Expo.  Stroll the Holiday Road neighbourhood at the Expo and vote for your favourites by donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk in front of each home! 100% of all “votes” go directly to the American Cancer Society.  Be sure to pop over to the Real Estate Office in the neighbourhood where some of the builders have graciously placed out their entry home for sale in an American Cancer Society Christmas Expo vendor.  But wait there is more!  Linden Lab® Partners With The Expo to Help the American Cancer Society Fight Childhood Cancer!  Linden Lab® will be decorating Linden homes as part of the Lights Of Hope contest. That’s right,  teams of Lindens have been untangling lights, checking bulbs, inflating Santa’s and climbing to the rooftops to hang lights on their Linden homes.  Do we have a Clark Griswald amongst them?  Maybe a Martha Stewart?  It’s up to you to decide what team has the best-decorated home.”

I can tell you it’s absolutely beautiful to stroll through the Lights of Hope areas.  In fact, it’s where I took this pic.  So if you love holiday lights — and unless you’re a true grinch, who doesn’t? — go for a stroll and marvel at the creativity of all these wonderful designers!

I just love love LOVE this pair of outfits. They work so well together, but then they also work so well on their own.  It’s pretty rare I think in a paired set that the man’s outfit works as well as the woman’s does… sometimes it does tend to come off as more of a companion piece than an awesome outfit in its own right.  With Hans and Freya, they are equally fabulous as standalone looks, but when together?!? Look out!  Absolutely awesome!!!  The pattern itself is very unisex, all original textures, with a wonderful assortment of colors. My personal favorite is the green because it really enhances my eyes,  and the blue just makes my Durzle’s eyes really pop… sighs, just knocks me out… but if you look at the full body shots below, you can see that other colors look great too. But if the pattern/colors are unisex, the cut and style are definitely NOT.  Although my sweater is comfy and relaxed looking, the plunging neckline and little miniskirt are VERY feminine.  And Durzle’s pushed-up sleeves and tight-but-not-too-skinny jeans advertise all his masculine charms.  Definitely a love story… one that gives me that peaceful, easy feeling…

Wide Eyed Wonder

It’s amazing how things keep changing and evolving.  Sometimes I just like to stop and think about all the changes and developments I’ve seen here on the grid in my 12 years here.  In fact, this blog post represents a lot of firsts. Number one, it’s my first post using Bakes On Mesh layers (BOM), which now that Firestorm has released a BOM-enabled viewer, will start becoming mainstream as an option to using appliers as more designers and mesh makers jump on board.  I’m lucky that Akeruka (the maker of my primary head) was an early adopter, updating all their deluxe heads — male and female — for BOM.  Although it does offer some interesting options, I wonder how it will impact the world of mesh.  Mesh completely upended the world we knew… will BOM now turn everything back on its head? Time will tell, I suppose; for now, I’m just kicking myself for having tossed all those system tattoos & makeup, but one thing is for certain in SL: there will always be more to buy!  As for first number two: it’s my first post for Out Shop Cancer, the grid-wide and marketplace shopping event benefiting Making Strides and the American Cancer Society.  Starting Oct. 1 and running the entire month, this event will take shoppers across the grid, exploring and shopping at stores in support of Strides. Store-owners will use American Cancer Society breast cancer vendor kiosks to feature special products in their stores. A directory of participating stores will be available at the Strides office on ACS Island as well as on the Making Strides Second Life website.  You can see me there on the list of official bloggers, part of my ongoing effort to use my blogging and try to do some good in the world, and I’m proud to say that the brand for which I’m blogger-manager — Allure Couture — is a participating store as well.  To kick it off, then, it’s only right that I feature one of our outfits where 100% of proceeds go to support the fight against breast cancer.  In light of the enormity of both of those things, my third first is just a little thing, but to me it’s pretty big… it looks like I finally figured out the emails that go out automatically to my email subscribers.  Of course I won’t know until after this is posted, so fingers crossed! I do love coffee.  I love everything about it.  We order from a roaster down in the city and lift our noses at supermarket brands.  In order to avoid shipping charges, we order quite a bit at one time — especially during the big sales they have — and I just love the smell when you open the box. Heavenly!  And I don’t stop there…  I also love memes about coffee, coffee mugs (I have quite the collection since it’s a must buy every time I go on vacation lol), and I noticed that I take a substantial number of shots here in SL with a cup of coffee… I’ve even made an album of it lol!  This is the first time though that I’ve done a shot with Crichton drinking coffee… it’s funny how a cup that’s just perfect for me seems lost in those big paws of his! I guess he’ll be getting a lot of those free refills!  😉

One of the ironies of blogging is that as you get more sponsors, you spend so much time promoting new releases that you have less time to blog designs that may be a bit older but that you just love and want to share.  I don’t want to make promises like “from now on, I’ll blog at least X fantastic older designs a month” because there are plenty of times I’m scrambling to fulfill my commitments, especially lately where I seem to be suffering from what a fellow blogger aptly called “blogger’s block”.  I already occasionally include them in what I’ll call a mix ‘n match shot, where I may be blogging a top but need a bottom or vice versa.  But I WILL promise that I will make an effort to include more of these design gems as the stars of the blog, items that I may or may not have had in inventory, but that I actually pull out to wear when the occasion arises.  Some might be from a sponsor (like this gorgeous gown); others may not.  Yes, it’s not a very “committed” commitment (kind of like a politician’s promise lol), but I’m being honest, and it’s all about the time… Speaking of which, I’ve rambled on enough for one blog, don’t you think?  😉

So I’ve been prattling on and on about needing a vacation for a long time now, but tada!!! It’s finally booked!  I can hardly wait! It’s not till mid-September, but it was a pretty complicated three-city deal to set up, so that was the earliest I could pull off with any kind of economy.  Why three cities? Well first we drive to Philadelphia to leave our dog with our son, which means one night in a hotel there. Then we fly to Florida to look into moving a year or two or three down the road; then we’re driving over to a beach resort to just veg and relax before heading back to Philadelphia for a last night, some time with our son, and then back to NY with our dog in tow!  Lots of coordination with reservations and checking alternate routes and ways of doing things, but I got it done in one very long day.  Of course, now comes the hardest part… WAITING.  I wish we were leaving this week lol, but oh I love the anticipation… it will keep me going for all these weeks!!!!  And what does all this have to do with “packing a little extra booty”?  Because now I’m thinking how nice it would be if my clothes in RL were anywhere near as lovely as my clothes here in SL (like this GORGEOUS suit/cover up), not to mention my body lol!  Then I’d be TOTALLY happy!!!!  😉

Maybe it’s because it’s a guy’s post, but for some reason, I’m just out of words for this blog. Unusual for me, to say the least. Maybe it’s because the heat has just crushed them all out of me. Maybe it’s because it’s Saturday morning and I stayed up way too late inworld last night playing cards & dancing. Who knows? Time’s a funny thing.  Some hours seem to stretch on forever… others pass by in a rush.  Much better and greater writers than me have written about this; but I have have found that Second Life can create the illusion of both happening at the same time.  It’s a time warp effect that I for one absolutely love, although the return to reality can definitely be a bit jarring.  But talk about time warp!  I think my blog has gone and made changes all on its own without me, reverting to an old header photo on its own accord… The fact is that Crichton is updated, so a closeup of the “old him” really didn’t work anymore, but not quite sure how my blog knew that.  If it’s going to do anything on its own, it would be lovely if it could write itself lol!!!!  Well, time to do the Time Warp again!  It’s just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right!!! (and if you don’t get the reference, well, that’s ok lol; I’m just in a strange mood this morning) 😉

I know I’ve talked about it before, but it always fascinates me how sometimes the smallest thing can be the catalyst for something that feels so much more. In this case, it was the jewelry… Peace and love, symbols of another generation; once I had them on, they cried out for clothing from the same era… and shoes… and of course hair… and then the right setting… and suddenly, there I am, looking at someone very VERY reminiscent of my RL younger self…  yes, the hair is way redder, the body is definitely more curvaceous and taller, but that WAS my hair, and I HAD that hairband with a feather, AND a fringed vest AND huge bellbottoms AND John Lennon glasses (although mine were blue tints) and I rode a city bus, and and and…  well, needless to say, I’ve been singing Bellbottom Blues and the 59th Street Bridge Song ever since I put this outfit together… and I really don’t want to take it off… ever… but of course I will lol because blogging must go on… 😉
