Ostara… I’m so happy to once again be an official blogger for “her” special fantasy event here in SL, Ostara’s Altar (a Dark Passions event), full of designer exclusives PLUS a 25L egg hunt.  I research EVERYTHING (including perfume lol), so to satisfy my curiosity about who Ostara was and why she has her own celebration,  I discovered that Ostara is basically a modern pagan holiday, celebrating the spring equinox which officially marks the beginning of spring and the awakening of nature.  Named after the ancient Germanic goddess Ostara or Eostre — who was associated with the dawn and new beginnings —  this is a time of rebirth and renewal when the natural world awakens from its winter slumber.

My favorite story about Ostara involves the origin of the Easter Bunny, where she transformed a bird into a hare (how? why? who knows?), and the hare responded by laying colored eggs for her festival.  Is this how the Easter bunny and the decorating of eggs began? Again, who knows, but the great news is that anyone who wants to celebrate the arrival of spring and the renewal of life can also participate in this holiday, regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs.  Bottom line, Ostara is a good time to literally and figuratively plant seeds for the future.  And that is definitely something to reflect upon, especially while shopping this fabulous event!  Take a browse through the Ostara’s Altar Shopping Guide; then go see the event for some magical shopping, and enjoy the blessings of the season!

I don’t work in SL (outside of blogging, which occasionally feels like work, but I take constant breaks to prevent that from becoming routine), but sometimes it’s nice to dress in SL a bit more like I would IRL if I WAS working. It’s true fantasy since I no longer work IRL any more lol!  But work dress for me would definitely mean more sedate, nowhere near as “exposed”, yet still stylish.   From my more corporate days, there were definitely days that I needed something that I could wear from high-level meetings directly to a night out…  THIS is the perfect outfit for going straight from work to drinks and dinner with that someone special (or someone who might turn out to be)…  or just when you want to look smart and well put together no matter where you may end up.  Enjoy!

In a strange mood indeed… my expected company was due to arrive tomorrow (WAS being the operative word), and all normal activities were suspended in order to provide entertainment, etc… and they just canceled because of the problems at the airports.  So now today is chock full of things that are normally spread out over days, but in order to accommodate, etc., well, you get the picture.  And though I completely understand, I’m annoyed… partly because this is the 3rd time in a row this particular visitor has canceled last minute.  It’s family, and someone we welcome, but still…  Oh well… shakes it off and starts getting ready to deal with an errand and appointment filled day, and then off to a concert tonight with one of my (if not my top) singers… trying so hard to focus on THAT… takes a deep breath and another cup of coffee… and I’m off!

Is there anything else in this world as loyal and loving as a dog? No matter what you do or say, or how you’ve f*d up in some way, your dog loves you.  There’s a saying I love, which basically is to strive to be the person your dog thinks you are.  As my dog enters her golden years, I’m thinking of that more and more, and how empty my home will feel when she’s no longer there, filling it with her love and her constant need for attention (and for her lambies to be tossed lol)…  Hopefully that will be for years to come, but having just lost my kitty, it’s on my mind and I’m definitely paying her more of the attention that she deserves.  Strokes her head, and gets ready to toss another lambie!

It’s been a tough winter, even down here in Florida.  We had a sustained cold in the 20s and just about every plant died (and yes, we covered them, but to no avail).  But spring is in the air, we are getting new plants ready for planting, and soon it will be green and blooming once again.  One of the things I love about SL is the immediate gratification… in two days, all the snow was gone from my land, and there is flowering lushness everywhere you look… if only it were that simple IRL!!!! So good to be back in my fantasy world, replenishing my energies after an unexpected trip to another kingdom… the life-giving waters surrounding the Tree of Life have given me a much needed boost to both my spirits and my body, so I can easily relax back into my normal everyday life… Sighs contentedly, gazing at the beauty and familiarity of the world around me… mmmm, yes, I now have soaked up enough energy to resume my duties taking care of the small creatures who depend on me, and oh yes, it’s the weekend! One of my favorite activities in SL (along with shopping and dancing) is to play games.  All types of games — cards, board games, you name it.  Come to think of it, it’s one of my favorite things IRL too lol, although I admittedly am not a good pool player, I still have fun.  Not doing something well doesn’t usually stand in my way of at least trying to hold my own, since I know that you never improve at anything unless you keep on slugging away at it! OK, so I’m a crazy cat lady!

I’m a bit late in posting this (the event closes tomorrow), but I’ve had a really rough few days.  Here I am, planning to shoot this adorable kitty-cat outfit when my own kitty, suddenly out of the blue, stopped eating,  and crawled into a corner he’d never ever been in.  A few hours later (about 1A) he started screaming and writhing intermittently, reminding me of when I passed a kidney stone a few months back.  Sadly, the urgent vet care near me closes at 11P, so all I could do was lie there on the floor with him, stroking him, talking softly, and just being there.  Eventually I fell asleep for about an hour, and when I woke, he was gone.  It was a hard death because it was obviously so painful, and I was so distressed my body went right into some kind of stomach reaction (food poisoning maybe?).  Bottom line, blogging was just not the priority.  But I’m back, missing my Rudy (see him below), and posting this shot in honor of my boy…

I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.  It just seems to be one of those overly commercialized days, creating a desperate “need” to both give and receive cards, flowers, candy, jewelry, etc.  How many tears have been shed over the lack of having a Valentine? I know how many I personally shed when I was a teenager and young adult.  So no, I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.  But love?  I’m definitely a romantic at heart, I just don’t believe that it has to be so regimented…. loving and being in love (which really are two separate things) should be natural and personalized, demonstrated in small and meaningful ways ALL the time, not just on Feb 14th with “surface” expressions.  But still, Valentine’s Day deserves an acknowledgement, and hopefully it reminds us all of the importance of love in this world that is increasingly hard.   Love is all around us, all the time, even if it’s not right there, shouting, like it is on this specific day.  Happy shopping!
