How do you feel about lighting? Me, I grew up in a lighting household… my dad (and for a while my mom too) was a manufacturer’s rep for lighting fixtures, so I’m always looking at how lighting is done and have several lights in my home that IMHO are pretty special.  I’m not quite as much of a lighting fanatic here on the grid because I spend so much time playing with windlights and adding personal lighting when needed for shots.  And yet  I’ve still added what I think are special little fixtures inside my home when I stumble across them.  But outdoor lighting is a whole other thing because it adds so much to the overall experience of your land.  It has the ability to change the entire mood and to draw your eye to little nooks even from afar.  That’s why you see so many little string lights added to individual furniture pieces, but when you really want to highlight an area or a path, you need something more.  With three lighting options, this little kit from Salacity enables you to do just that, whether you want to light the way or set the mood with the magic of outdoor lighting… 😉

So here I am again, sitting on my ya ya waiting for my ya ya, uh huh… What’s a girl to do? Drank my beer, read my book… I guess I could paint my toes, but then again you can only paint them so many times, & they’re looking pretty perfect already.  Time to start thinking about how I should have him make it up to me… hmmmm… what jewelry would look good with that new dress I just got huh? A Blogger’s Dream

One of the reasons I love blogging for the Boardwalk Event is that I see — and get to “play” with — so much cool home decor and what I’ll call “blogger necessities.”  My eye — and heart — was immediately struck by both these items.  In fact, I grabbed the Photo Studio Skybox the instant I saw it , set it up immediately, and see tons of future use for it…  But it’s one of those items that’s just not easy to blog… until I realized how perfect this bedroom set was, and how well they worked together.  No, I’m not giving up my house and moving in, but I think this gives an idea of the versatility of BOTH of these pieces.  I know that I already have plans for both lol!  😉

Generation X – Kymani Bedroom Set.  As I said above, I just love this set, & not just because my home has a southwestern flair to it.  As you can see, here I’m using it in a contemporary brick skybox, & it looks like it totally belongs.  The full set includes the bed (available in two shades; PG or Adult), bull head, side table, fur rug, hanging lamps (which turn on/off), chair, vase/books, elephant ear plant, & floor baskets.  Or, if you prefer, you can buy any or all of these items individually. Z.O.E. – Urban Studio Skybox.  A photographer’s dream come true, this skybox is one of those things that I didn’t know I needed until I saw it.  Unbelievably awesome! First of all, it has that contemporary urban brick, which I just adore, with a high ceiling & plenty of space.  Plus it’s REALLY low-prim — only 10 LI, for a box that’s 12x24x12.  But what makes this skybox truly unique is that the very urban-style staircase leads to an upstairs loft… yes, I could have put the bedroom up there, & if I was using it for a living space, perhaps I would have done that, but instead I’ve copied the Z.O.E. demo & used that space for the Hanging Photo Backdrop to set up my own photo studio.  (I mean I AM a blogger after all lol!)  Other finishing touches I used on the skybox are the Upright Track Lighting (with a touch menu for 11 shade options) & the Pipes Chandelier (also with 11 color options on touch).  All these items are EXCLUSIVE at the July Boardwalk Event running through August 15th.

Maybe it’s because it’s a guy’s post, but for some reason, I’m just out of words for this blog. Unusual for me, to say the least. Maybe it’s because the heat has just crushed them all out of me. Maybe it’s because it’s Saturday morning and I stayed up way too late inworld last night playing cards & dancing. Who knows? Wow, hard to believe we’re more than halfway through July already. I haven’t been to the beach once, or really done anything that says “SUMMER” other than use a lot of air conditioning and try to stay cool.  In fact, it’s going to be so ridiculously hot this weekend that our outdoor plans were actually cancelled; instead, we’re considering going to the movies of all things.  Shakes my head sadly at what my world is coming too… oh well, at least here in SL I’m on the beach all the time, having fun, boating and so much more… truly an endless summer… and I don’t even have to worry about sunburn!!!!  Beach baby, go go go!!! 😉

Whale-watching

Have you ever seen a whale in the wild? It’s always been one of my dreams, but I’ve yet to have the opportunity.  I’ve seen plenty of dolphins, I’ve even swum with them, and I’ve seen orcas at places like SeaWorld, but someday I really want to see whales where they belong, roaming free in the sea.  I don’t want to get TOO close and personal, mind you, just enough where the experience is imprinted on my mind forever.  If I could hear the song of the humpback whale (other than on a record, which is extremely unlikely to say the least), that would just be the most amazing icing on the cake.  Until then, I guess I’ll have to settle for the sealife here in SL… I even have my own personal orca, roaming just off my land… sometimes I think he’s just teasing me lol, reminding me that I still haven’t seen the real thing.  Who knows, maybe this is the year?  I’ve even just completed my own whale-watching platform, so I can wait and watch in comfort and style.  Whale ho!  😉

The July Boardwalk has opened, and I have to say, it definitely looks to be an awesome round.  In fact, when I first saw these two items, I virtually leapt out of my chair in excitement!  Serendipity Designs is an old favorite of mine that went dormant for a while. But it’s back, and this living room set is absolutely GORGEOUS.  The fact that I live in a log home with a southwestern theme makes it perfect for me personally too (which is why it’s mixed in with some of my own things in my own home), but I’d say it’s a great addition for just about any non-beach-themed home.  And anyone who follows my blog knows I’m a crazy cat lady… my KittyCatS are not always the most cooperative when it comes to photography and I don’t like putting them in image mode because for some reason they tend to get stuck (I think intentionally to punish me for not letting them run around!), so these cats from ImageEssentials are (prepare yourself!) truly the cat’s meow!!!  Both items are EXCLUSIVE at the July Boardwalk Event which opens today July 15th and runs through August 15th.   😉

I need a vacation. All the emotional and physical stress from my husband’s health-care emergency and the first month post-surgery where I was still worried all the time & had to be a pretty strict caregiver, not to mention the physical exhaustion of doing both our chores, has taken its toll. I’m worn out and need a recharge. Although we had originally thought that our next vacation would be city-style, with lots of running around, now I want the complete opposite… I want to lie on a beach (or a ship!!!) somewhere and veg.  But since my husband’s strength is still not there, we’re thinking maybe just doing an AirBnB somewhere we can drive to and take the dog… a place that still says BEACH but maybe also has a boardwalk or other entertainment nearby if we want it and feel up to it.  But I definitely need some time away to get myself back to feeling ship-shape and ready to go. So I’ve been scrolling through pages and pages of photos of houses, falling in love and seeing no availability, seeing availability and cringing at the house or something about the location.  Then I saw this set from Salacity and thought how perfect it would be in ANY of these vacation homes, how it totally (prepare yourself!) rings that beach vacation bell!  So let’s start ringing those bells, and bring on vacation!!!  😉

Nothing Says Summer like Barbecue!

Summer may not have officially begun, but as far as I’m concerned, once Memorial Day has come and gone, it’s summer! And although the definition of summer has changed for me over the years, as my life has changed, one thing has always remained constant… summer means BARBECUES!  And at my house, we’re old-fashioned… no gas grills for us, we still use charcoal, and BBQ the way we did when I was a kid.  I love everything about a charcoal grill — the smell, the taste, the charring — mmmmm, I’m making myself hungry lol! Hot air balloons have always captured my imagination.  Maybe it’s from watching the Wizard of Oz as a little girl, or pictures I’ve seen of hot air balloon festivals, but they always make my heart soar. My family did a hot air balloon ride in Arizona several years ago… it was not quite as magical as I’d hoped — my head was hot from the heat for the balloon, and we hit a day without much wind — but it was still pretty thrilling and the history behind it was fascinating (especially its relationship to champagne!!!)… This gacha brought all that rushing back into my mind in a moment, and although there’s no champagne handy and this balloon doesn’t actually move, let’s toast to taking a ride in my beautiful balloon!  😉
