People think blogging is easy. And maybe for some it is. For me, I wouldn’t say it’s easy (probably because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and get hung up in the details), but it’s definitely a labor of love.  I won’t go into all the details here… I’ve done it before, and if you blog you already know it; if you don’t, you probably don’t care lol.  But I’ve learned that beyond the skills of creating a look and a creative setting — catching a moment in time, if you will — are things like lighting, which can drive you mad!   • Lighting:  Salacity – Studio Lights.  One of the biggest challenges in taking fashion photos is getting the lighting right. You want shadows & a beautiful windlight, but you also want to be sure that what you’re blogging can be seen in the actual colors it comes in.  I had created my own little light source that definitely helps, but this set is a MAJOR step up. It includes a full range of lighting equipment based on what real life professionals use; these are active projectors, each set up to be exactly like its RL analog.  Each one has both an adjustable level of intensity (25%, 50%, 100%) as well as color (warm, cool, neutral).  For this particular shot, I chose the Single Spotlight & the Side Softbox, but there are several other pieces of equipment available as well. Ok, I’ll admit it. I’ve never quite understood the general love affair with vintage.  But while I’ve happily left my brief fling with retro behind, I have to say that I seem to have been “bitten by the bug” and have fallen somewhat in love with vintage. There’s just something I can’t quite put my finger on that captivates me… it almost adds a sense of maturity, of classic style, and yet seems to be winking at the same time.  To me, the looks that incorporate a touch of vintage have a sense of freshness rather than “the same old, same old”, which is actually rather opposite of what I would have expected. How long will this love affair last? Well, you never really know, but I expect it will be one of those on-and-off romances, because if it’s one thing I’m certain about, I definitely never want my look or style to go stale. There’s no fun in that, for you OR for me lol! 😉

I never would have thought it, but shooting men by themselves is quite different than shooting women. Maybe it’s the angles, or because the lighting needs to be different, or the attitude, but I found this first photo shoot with Crichton — who you’ll be seeing quite a bit of in this blog going forward since he’s my new male alt — to be quite challenging in ways that I totally didn’t expect.  I’m not quite ready to unveil him totally yet… still tweaking and developing since he’s less than a week old.  But I CAN tell you this… he’s looking mmm mmm good!  And for that, I really REALLY need to thank my sponsors who have totally accepted him as part of my blogging family and made it so much easier for me to get him up and running, so to speak.  I’ve made sure that this first post features them all in some fashion, with much more to come in the future!  Next post will be a real introduction of the man behind the hat, I promise!!!  😉

You know how a song gets stuck in your head and can start driving you crazy?  Well sometimes it can actually come in handy, and inspire you. I loved this little romper the moment I saw it… and this running soundtrack in my head told me exactly what I wanted to do with it — drink a pina colada.  That was a pretty open-ended starting point, but Rene — my best friend and the always awesome designer of Allure Couture — suggested I use the bar area at her new store which had a drink server built into the furniture and the perfect tropical/jungle setting to boot.  Voilà… and I didn’t even have to get caught in the rain!  Now to plan my escape…  😉

I’m just loving having my little hideaway at the beach. Many years ago, I lived on a huge series of interconnected sims with lots of open sailable water.  In addition to having wonderful views of beautifully landscaped islands across the way, one of my greatest joys was to hop in a boat after a stressful day at work in RL, and cruise the waterways… looking at what other people had done with their property, marveling at the creativity (or on occasion, the lack thereof), imagining the breeze in our hair, and the feel of the spray on our skin. Then the sim owner split the sims into a checkerboard “for greater privacy”, boating was lost, and ever since it’s been one of those things we’ve talked about finding a way to do, but just never have. Until now.  As I said a few posts back, I recently purchased a tiny oasis connected to a sailable sea, and have been busy boat shopping whenever I can. It’s a lot harder than you think, especially when you’re dealing with very limited prims and space (some of these boats have more land impact than my lot can hold with nothing else on it lol!).  And because they’re SOOOO expensive, I do want to be sure that we get the best one for our needs… which means it not only looks good and is fun to drive, but is loaded with anims that make me look good too! We’ve narrowed it down to 4 choices, and I’m really pressing to make a decision.  Maybe it’s this one? Or this?  Or wait…  I think THIS is the one!!!!  😉

If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan, then you may not get the title of this post, but if you are, then you understand… completely!  I don’t know about you, but while I’m so excited that the next season of Game of Thrones will start soon — April 14th — I’m also kind of sad, because it’s the final season.  That’s the problem with a wonderful miniseries, or a wonderful book… at some point, they come to an end, and you are left to imagine what comes next.  The good news? I have a WONDERFUL imagination… hopefully you do too! 😉
