I know, I know, I’m breaking one of the cardinal rules of this blog… I’m doing what we have dubbed “a double post,” or a single blog post that features two distinct photos.  They’re just both so necessary to the story… the romantic fantasy of this stunning gown combined with the dramatic fantasy of my face, a true flight of fancy demanding both the full shot AND the closeup. In this situation, you just can’t have one without the other.  So why choose? That’s the freedom of being a fae and, let’s face it, of having your own blog lol! You not only get to make the rules, you also get to break them whenever you see fit!  Let’s see where else my flight of fancy takes me… you just never know what wondrous finds await just beyond the horizon!!!! En Garde!

It’s rare that someone asks, but I notice the looks when I stroll into a strange sim.  As a child of what was at the time a somewhat shocking union between elf and fae, you’d think I’d be used to the subtlety of raised eyebrows and the directness of outright stares.  But in these more modern days, it’s my warrior attire and attitude that seems to draw the more immediate reaction.  It’s sad that even today most people seem to prefer their fantasy folk in either dreamy silks that show a lot of skin or more formal medieval wear that covers it all up (both of which I love to wear on the right occasions)…  warrior garb is still cause for those ongoing second looks.  Sometimes I can even hear the unspoken thoughts about whether I’m just dressing the part or if I have the skill to wield my weapons with expertise.  And believe me, I understand those doubts. Even today, it isn’t easy for a female to become a warrior.  And growing up as an outsider, not really belonging to any one clan, I was included in the basic training given to all so that I could help defend when necessary.  But true warrior training was denied me, so it was something I had to develop the hard way (not that there IS an easy way!), watching, teaching myself, training independently for hours and hours, learning from anyone willing to teach me, whether it be as a lesson to warn me off or to truly help me hone my skills.  So yes, I understand those looks, but mixed in with the hostility and the indifference I am also beginning to note some looks of admiration when a practiced eye notes the ease with which I both carry and wield my weapons, how they are truly extensions of my body.  So as I continue to hone my skills, I’m also learning to hold my head up just a little bit higher, to meet those doubting eyes with confidence and ease, ready to defend.  En garde!

I do love the beauty and wonder of a wintry landscape!  The world just takes on a sparkly, glittery quality, the epitome of a winter wonderland.  One of the things that’s so much fun being a fantasy blogger is that I not only get to dress the part, I get to BE part of the story, to become someone or something that just belongs.   Having just spent some time IRL with a little girl who absolutely adores the movie FROZEN, I have that vision in my head, so it was great fun to step into a similar role.  (However, I have NOT been so happy experiencing being FROZEN trying to upload to FlickR!!!!)  But although I may look as cold as ice, with my warm fae blood, I never feel the chill!  Sending a few fairy blessings your way to launch the New Year off to a fabulous start… happy shopping!

It’s been just about a year-and-a-half since I awoke from my deep slumber and was reborn as a blogger of fantasy.  Although it’s definitely taken some adjustment and lots and lots and LOTS of trial and error, resulting in repeated revisions and updating, I have to say that this fae has finally reached a place of happiness.  Yes, yes,  there will still be lots of changes in the future, a fae needs to change and grow and evolve just like everybody else.  The fact is, though, I still find this world of SL fantasy so wonderful and exciting, I enjoy agonizing over every detail, every search for the perfect accessory or pose or setting.  And fantasy in SL seems to be growing and growing…  years ago, its popularity was in a steep downward spiral, especially after the elven migration to Inworldz (I went too for a little while), and I had lost my will to live in that diminishing space.  But now!!!!!  The love of fantasy seems to be growing by leaps and bounds, which you can see just by looking at all the new fabulous designers making totally unique creations… and this in turn has given birth to several events dedicated to this world we love.  I am soooo very thrilled that I have been accepted as a blogger for one of the newest events centered around roleplay, The Narrative.  Filled with fabulous fantasy finds (giggles at the triple alliteration), it’s definitely a don’t miss event for everyone who can appreciate the beauty and wonder of fantasy in this second life we share.

OK, so it’s not quite the light of  Earendil, but then I’m no hobbit… just a fae wondering what’s making that noise out there in the dark.  I’ve been noticing that I feel a bit defenseless when not in warrior mode, missing my sword or bow or magical weaponry.  But it’s not always appropriate to walk around armed, so instead I need to rely on my senses to protect me from whatever might want to harm me or those under my protection.  But this is life in medieval times… weapons need to be at hand, or we need to stay near home for even a modicum of safety.  And we always ALWAYS need to stay somewhat alert and on guard.

  • Dress:  Poet’s Heart – Earl Ingstad.   I have to admit that I shied away from this outfit when I first saw it, as not being fae enough for my style.  Wow, was I ever wrong!!!!  Yes, it’s more medieval than fae, & it’s more high-necked than I generally wear, but it’s such a uniquely wonderful look with elven detailing along the bottom edge of the dress, the sleeves, & up the front, & I totally LOVE the fur stole!!!  It really fits medieval life when that chill is in the air & central heating hasn’t been invented.  Earl Ingstad comes in four color packs or a fatpack of all 19 colors.  Each color pack has a HUD to customize the dress, the waist banding, the front, the fur, & metal for the fur chains separately, so you can change up the look as much as you’d like.  She is sized only for Maitreya & Hourglass (though she fits Legacy perfectly on me), & is available in the Casual Fantasy room at the mainstore. Sighs, my wings are drooping, I’m so tired from all the holiday shopping… the “standard” weekend sales are often exhausting, but all these Black Friday sales???  Not to mention that SL had to throw it’s own brand of action into the mix, making it extremely sloooooooow to attach/detach anything, so trying on demos (which is a must, since no amount of fairy dust will fix something that just doesn’t work on my head, my body, my shape, and so on).  I’m just going to sit pretty for a bit, relax and unwind with a bit of nature and some furry friends to replenish my spirit and my strength.  I see more shopping ahead, but for now, a much needed break to enjoy some of my recent fantastic finds.  May a little fairy dust brighten your shopping excursions in the days ahead!!!

Why is there so much stress and distress in the world?  It saddens my heart, and all of the personal stress my human counterpart has been undergoing (some minor surgeries, end-of-year financial decisions, hosting a major dinner for the first time in her new home) is cascading over onto me.  In one way, I’m happy to share the burden and lighten her load as much as I can, but in the other way!!! I want nothing at all to do with all those human things, and the only stress I want to experience is in dealing with the crowds at major shopping events while I search for the perfect accessory or makeup, or battling evil, or questing, or… well, you get the idea.  If I’m built for escapist fantasy, then what is real life stress doing intruding into my existence? Well, here’s wishing for a brighter tomorrow, where stress is minor, and my Second Life world can remain peaceful, and loving, and fun.  Happy shopping!

So with my human counterpart taking advantage of the Halloween season to co-opt fantasy blogging, I took the opportunity to completely redo my avatar.  I never realized how similar we looked until she started “dressing up” for Halloween.  So I decided it was time to move a bit more into what I’ll call an “otherworldly” look as opposed to taking a human look and adding some fae attributes.  You can’t really see my face in this shot (so there’s still some fae mystery here) but  I’m sure I’ll have to modify the look somewhat for my less warrior-type outfits, since I don’t want to look underage lol, but for now I’m quite enthralled by the new face staring out of the mirror to me.  What I love about ALL of this — the outfit, the tree, my new face/body — is that it’s not JUST for Halloween… you always need a touch of the dark when creating fantasy… so even though I might be just getting in under the wire for the events, it’s definitely not too late to take advantage of these finds!
