I haven’t personally seen the Disney movie Encanto, but my RL counterpart DID shop and purchase an Encanto costume for her granddaughter who absolutely adores it.  My wings were all aflutter when I saw  this amazing and seemingly Encanto-inspired outfit for ME!!!  Talk about living the fantasy!!!  I found myself searching the grid for the right Latin-style setting to further enhance this glorious look, and found the most amazing SIM where exploration totally distracted me from my goal for longer than I am willing to admit…  Time for a siesta, while I plan out my next adventure!!!  Sprinkles a little fairy dust as I move into the cool interiors to wait out the sun…

There's a lot to learn in fairy tales

Being a fae might seem (in some ways and to some people, at least) a bit like living in a fairy tale.  After all, I have wings and can fly (not to mention horns, but then, that’s not particularly fae-like lol).  Of course, everyone in SL can fly (unless you’re somewhere that the powers that be decided that no, you can’t).   What I take issue with is that “living in a fairy tale” is said derisively, as an insult.  The fact is that there’s a lot of what is called “folk wisdom” combined with pure morality in a place that both good and evil dwell side by side.  Sounds a lot like real life when you look at it that way, no?  You can learn a lot from fairy tales, especially the original Grimm stories, if not necessarily the cleaned-up Disney versions.  I don’t understand why people have so many issues with how others choose to live their lives, ESPECIALLY in this second life that is virtually a fantasy world for all of us… some of us just take that word “fantasy” a bit more literally than others.  So for those of you who put down my fae existence and make snickering comments, well, I’ll just keep on keeping on, doing what I’m doing, living MY fantasy.  You can go stew in your judgments rather than living the life that comes when you accept the personal choices that others make for themselves.  (And yes, you can extrapolate that into the real world as well.)  Me, I prefer the fairy tale, where we all get to choose who and what we want to be.  And one thing I definitely choose is to look FABULOUS!!!!

  • Gown:  Poet’s Heart – Elise.  I’m finding it very difficult to put the style of this dress into words… it has medieval elegance but with what I consider a very modern touch in the openwork on top.  With the big hip billows (I have no idea what the proper term is for those!) & the huge bow at the back, it has a young feel… but again that openwork adds a definite touch of maturity.  I’m going to dub it as “informed innocence” (she IS reading a book after all).  Whatever the style moniker though, Elise is a beautiful addition to any fantasy closet!  Do note that the lace top is BOM only; two different lace patterns are included in both black & white versions.   She is sized only for Maitreya & Petite, though she fit my Legacy body with just the top deformer.  Elise comes in different color packs — all of which include black, white, grey, & off-white — or as a fatpack.  Each color pack has a HUD to customize the gown color, the sleeve & collar edge, & the color for that huge bow in the back. Sometimes I have so much to say here on these pages… other times (like this), not so much.  I am currently reigning as temporary goddess of this part of the forest, and am spending a great deal of my time in quiet contemplation of all its hidden beauty, doing what I can for its more defenseless inhabitants.  There’s just so much going on, with so much shopping (well worth it in my case, I ADORE this look!!!!), but it’s important to take this time to refresh and recharge…  smiles softly as a young fawn approaches me for the first time…  summer is such a fabulous time to enjoy all the blessings of nature!

Color, color, color!!! Is there ever enough color in the world?  Don’t get me wrong, neutrals have their place in the world, but they’re just so, well, neutral!  I love being surrounded by color, wearing color, creating color… color creates a vibrance in the air and just makes me feel so alive!  I even prefer having the blues to having the blahs… Tosses some fairy dust into the flames and sends energy out into the world… May color fill your day and chase any drabs away!!

After almost three weeks away, it feels amazing to be back!  Walking through the woods (dancing is more like it!), smelling all the flowers, mesmerized by all the colors, it’s exhilarating!  Unfortunately, it’s taken a little more than I expected to get myself back in hand… I’m therefore a bit late with getting this post together, and I’m caught in confusion whether the featured events ends on the 28th (TODAY!!!) or on the 30th.  I’ve opted to believe that it’s the latter… If I’m mistaken and it has indeed ended before you see this, my apologies… but know that the outfit will be available at the mainstore when the event has ended.  Breathing in the air, beating my wings with the joy of just being… it’s soooo good to be back!!!! Throws a huge handful of fairy dust in the air, & soars upward through it, seeking out friends to regale with tales of time away and to hear all the news…

There Be Dragons…

I do love dragons!  They are a part of fantasy lore — or even history if you believe some of the tales from ancient times (perhaps a type of dinosaur that managed to survive for a few eons???) — that seems to have universal appeal.  I myself prefer the gentle-souled version (Puff the Magic Dragon et al) as opposed to the fierce selfish destroyer (like Smaug).  But here in SL, mine are more like the mountain banshees in Avatar… wild but able to be tamed and then bound by loyalty to the one who mastered them, partners in battle, domesticated to me and ONLY me in the garden.  And oh, what a garden I’ve built for them, a riot of color, a private little hideaway where we can simply be…  Now that IS a fantasy worth having, don’t you think?

I feel so bad for my poor human counterpart.  Real life has been quite stressful the last several days, trying to get things in order for a huge overseas trip that begins at the end of this week, with seemingly simple tasks morphing into monumental headaches.  I had to literally beg for a few hours of time to explore more of the exceptionally creative Fantasy Faire — open only until May 8th!!!! — and to create this third look.  Sometimes it’s amazing what you can do under pressure (then again, other times you get crushed lol).  But I don’t have a single moment to waste… I hope to get at least one more fantastic trip through the faire before going to sleep for most of the month…  But oh, the wonders I’ve seen!!!!  Don’t take my word, go see them yourself, now before time runs out and the portals close for another year!!!!

I Wish…

In some ways, fae are not so different from humans.  We too have wishes, ours just tend to be more centered around nature and the heart, and less about power and prestige (though there are certainly some of THOSE types in my world too).  Right now, there is just so much unrest in that real world out there, so much pain, that my current wishes are less about me and my world and more about “out there.”  But in times of stress, this fae believes that surrounding yourself with the beauty of nature and the wonder of fantasy becomes even MORE important… a small escape into a stressless environment where peace, love and beauty reign.  Wishing that for you, me, and all who share the desire to live in harmony…

Fantasy Faire 2022 is in full swing.  If you haven’t been there yet, this is a MUST SEE.  Seriously, do NOT miss this once-a-year event.  All the details about this year’s Fantasy Faire are HERE, for the shopping, the entertainment, the hunts… and remember, this is a Relay for Life event, so it’s all to benefit a cause every one of us can support, the eradication of cancer.  You have no interest in “that fantasy stuff”? Well, you’re in Second Life, so if nothing else you should be able to appreciate unique fabulous builds, and at FF there are 20 totally different and incredibly impressive lands.  And who knows? That adorable dragon or centaur may just steal your heart or one of those incredible skins for your horse or maybe even that set of gossamer wings.  Or hair.  Or skin.  Or beautifully colored flowers and plants.  Or home decor.  Or, or, or… you get the idea.  There’s something for everyone at  Fantasy Faire, open through May 8th.  And if your life has been touched by cancer in any way, there’s quite a bit dedicated to loved ones lost.  (The Faireland of Living Echoes, where this pic is taken, is a prime example of that.)  Me, I’m spending as much time as I can at the Faire (which sadly is not as much as I’d like), but even if all you do is a quick visit, it’s one you will feel was well spent…

I can’t tell you how my heart soared when I read these words on the Fantasy Faire 2022 website!  As a fae, this is the most absolute best event of the year.  So many designers, so much creativity, the sheer breadth of what these artistic souls create first in their imagination and then in all its virtual glory, it’s staggering.  As an official blogger (yay!!!!) I started seeing a few items this past week; we had early access in the fairelands ONE day early… I spent my entire time just visiting every one of the 20, yes 20!!!!,  Fairelands… it seems like each one elicited a heartfelt “wow, this is my favorite”.  A taste of 20 different worlds, staggeringly different…  To me, there’s nothing like creating a character or scene with just a few of the amazing things items available at the Faire… and to think that as a Relay for Life (RFL) event, the whole impetus behind it is to help bring another fantasy world into being, a world free of cancer.  I am so thrilled, so honored, so humbled, so proud, to be even the teeniest part of this fabulous event.  The Faire just opened April 21st and the portals remain open through May 8th…

To quote from the website, “The Faire has long been considered the premier annual shopping event for fantasy-themed merchandise in Second Life, showcasing fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets, and exclusive items by 250 of the grid’s top fantasy creators.
