It’s the time of year when we start to re-evaluate our choices, maybe more so for me than others, because on top of it being the holidays and New Year’s, it’s also my birthday.   And (for me, anyway) that re-evaluation includes my choices inworld.  One thing is certain… I don’t like looking young in SL.  I’m no longer young IRL, and it rubs me the wrong way to look too young here on the grid, it’s just not who I am.  I had originally made a conscious decision that my fae didn’t need to look as mature as my human avatar, after all, she is fae and therefore blessed with longevity and not quite as subject to the aging process.  And originally, she looked somewhat non-human, but a tweak here, a tweak there, and suddenly she’s very human looking, and very young at that.  That look may work for certain styles, certain characters, certain concepts, but she’s just not who I want to be any more.  And with the magic of SL (and the awesome new holiday head free from Lelutka), I have created a somewhat older, more hardened, wiser, experienced fae, who I have christened Xanthe.  I may have already tweaked her too far into humanlike from where she started, but as we all know, that is a great deal of the fun behind character creation here in SL… one that I still fully enjoy when the rest of the magic is sadly fading (seems to be a cycle for me, one that comes at the end of the year like clockwork).  Where do I go from here? We shall see, but I think Xanthe will find her way, while Thea will happily frolic in the glade…  Happy Holidays!

The Olympics give rise to all sorts of fantasies, even among the fae.  Something about donning this outfit made me feel like I was ready to take center stage to perform my “routine”… no matter how it goes, though, I know that my look is a perfect 10! Happy shopping!

What is there to say?  Not everyone can do practical magic right off the bat… if I can really hone my skills then I can move up in rank, but I still have a tendency to get a bit distracted and blow up things nearby before releasing my magic at the intended target.  I feel like I’ve been practicing FOREVER, but obviously, no promotions are in the near future… sighs… again…

One of the things I love about fantasy is that you can go wherever your fancy takes you.  And right now, steampunk is the way!   Is this where the expression “gearhead” comes from?  (LOL, I know it’s not, but maybe it should be?)

Another glimpse into an alternative reality for a fae hybrid like me…  I’ve always loved almost anything scifi.  I know that I’m too timid to ever be an actual space explorer, flying off into the great unknown (no red shirt for me lol!), but I DO know that at some point, there will just be a lot of rather ordinary jobs that involve space without having to be on the front line of discovery (working on the station, shuttling folks up and down, basic operations, you get the idea).  It’s a future where all races mingle equally, where the uniform code allows for individual “embellishments” for rank, family, and even religion (think about Ro’s earring on Star Trek), native hair styles, and so on.   Seems like a great future, but there are definitely sacrifices to be made, including sunrise, sunsets, and shopping!  Perish the thought!  Shudders, and rushes off to hit more events and weekend sales…  Happy shopping!

My plan on setting out was to do a wintry, holidayesque scene, suitable for a fae.  But I listened to the call of the outfit, and it led me to the desert…  where winter is not quite the same!  But we fae are everywhere, even in these dry climes, though we do tend to stay more around the oasis.  However, when the holidays near, we often must cross the sands to join family, friends, and those yet to be friends for celebration.  Now, it’s time for me to put my camel to bed and go rock the casbah (and yes, mixing lyrics for the HUMAN songs, but they go together in the more apropos fae tunes)… Happy shopping!
