It’s a mystery.  Once again, my total look, my “activity” is not what I had planned when I first put on what I feel is a truly awesome outfit.  Neither is my overall look for that matter.  Initially, I went with a greyish-green skin & some facepaint.  But it just felt “off”… the look was just not right for the feel of the outfit, and I couldn’t put my finger on it.   So I did what I generally do when stuck… I went shopping!  When I tried on this skin color,  the outfit screamed YES! Everything became clear… the facepaint was gone because this gorgeous outfit was not for actual fighting… it brought visions of socializing between engagements, off-duty, or peacetime. I was actually searching for something like having a tankard in an era-appropriate pub, when the outfit pulled me into stronger off-duty waters and then suddenly it felt RIGHT… like I was on a diplomatic or secret assignment that turned into a beautiful moment of diversion. .. and thus another “character” is born.  I’d love to write her story (as I’ve seen some bloggers do), but I sadly lack the time and the confidence to do so.  So on that note, I will continue my slow crossing of the waters to my mission(personal or professional? hmmm I wonder) on the other side.  Happy shopping!

I’d love to be able to  follow up with some bright snappy dialogue, about letting things be, but it’s too late and I’m too tired for that kind of linguistic creativity.  In fact, the last few days have been more of a case of time not being on my side lol…  and it’s nothing all that much really, but in addition to Ceja moving her tropical home, I moved MY home (we’re now going to be neighbors which will make things much more convenient not just for borrowing that proverbial cup of sugar but also for household and landscaping items that are in the “other one’s” inventory).  So all I’ve been wanting to do is build and landscape and decorate and shop in order to build and landscape and decorate some more.  My new land even includes a mermaid domain, which is soooo much fun but also rather challenging since it’s something I’ve never attempted before.  And that means lots of experimentation, which by definition means some things work and a lot of others don’t.  So yes, I’m definitely seeking some words of wisdom, and who knows? I might even listen!

I’m late… I’m SO late, but even a fae can’t control what happens outside in the real world.  And it’s been one of those times, when if it can go wrong , it will… not in any big OMG change my life forever way, just a lot of little straws trying to break that poor camel’s back.  One example — and I’m only going to give one, just as an example — the icemaker in the fridge broke.  No big deal, right? But this is Florida, where the tap water is lukewar but NEVER cold, and the temperature has been record-breaking with the index up around 110 or more every single day.  Life goes on, as it must, but it’s so much harder to function when you’re hot and tired and thirsty for something cold to drink… or to put on the back of your neck when you’re feeling faint outside… or to put in the dogs’ water so that THEY have something cold to drink.  And as I said, that’s just ONE example.  On top of that, the computer has been glitchy as has the internet and the cable… heat-related? maybe.  Maybe not.  None of it huge; just enough straws to cause delays in getting my blog out.  Life — both in the real world and on the grid — will go on.  Though maybe it’s just a flight of fancy…

This is the birth of a new persona for me (yes, there seem to be several multiple personalities residing within one small avatar lol), the Dread Pirate Thea la Fae.  I have a feeling that she will make an appearance now and again, though piracy and buccaneering don’t hold a huge appeal for me, I do get a hankering to “shiver me timbers” every once in a while.  An outfit like this DEFINITELY puts me in the mood to taste the salt air and have some rum… unfortunately my parrot companion could not join me due to insurmountable issues with scripted objects the night of my shoot, but the next time Thea la Fae takes center stage I’ll be sure to include the screechy beast!  In the meantime, may you find safe harbor in this troubled world (and of course, happy shopping)!

The beauty of SL is to try on different looks or, in my case, totally different characters.  Each fae I become is way more than just changing an outfit… I transform into someone new, with different attitudes.  It’s a fascinating way to live, but so much a part of who I am, as a fantasy being living my life (or should I say lives?) in this fantasy world of ours… Each one has that touch of magic…  here’s how I created this amazing new me!

Stretches languorously… mmm who am I today?  That’s one of the things that I love so incredibly much about fantasy fashion… unlike “human” dressing where if you’re lucky you get a “feeling” or what I like to think of as an “attitude” when you put on the clothes, with quality fantasy fashion (any by “fashion” I mean more than JUST the clothes but also all the accessories that heighten and deepen your look)  you BECOME someone new… it’s almost like creating a character in a book.  As the puzzle pieces fit together to create a wholly unique image, backstories emerge, and life’s parameters and goals and desires come right along with it.  Well, you may question that or even scoff, but maybe that’s why I blog… I love effectively giving birth to a new fae… she may be related to others who came before and who will come after…  but the details will always be hers and hers alone.   I do love roleplay, even though my roles tend to be short ones lol!!!

With all the turmoil and hate in the world, not to mention the never-ending barrage of commercialization, it can be hard to find (and hold onto) that joyous and inclusive feeling of the holidays.  And don’t get me wrong… I LOVE all the shopping and the beautiful holiday and wintry sims to explore… it’s more in the real world, that sometimes tends to seep even into our idealized fantasy world.  That spirit of the holidays just gets lost all too often behind all the trappings and yes, even the politics.  So I’m out there trying to shine my tiny little light in the darkness, helping to find that elusive spirit of the holidays, wherever it may be…

This will be my last fantasy post this year… throws a huge handful of fairy dust, wishing you the best of the holidays and a happy transition to the new year!!!

A little bit more of a modern feel than normal for me, but I decided to venture a bit out of my time zone as-it-were in order to try on a totally different culture…  isn’t that what role-playing (if not ALL of Second Life!!!!) is all about? I just love it when I discover items that totally spur my imagination and help me go somewhere I’ve never been before.  So much fun!!! This is what makes me love what I do!!!  And it being Halloween, it’s when even those of you don’t generally role play can go ahead and try it on, and just have fun without feeling self-conscious.  And who knows? You might discover a whole new side of yourself! (As an aside, that is exactly how I, Thea the fae, came to be.  Ceja & partner dressed as elves and had so much fun, alts were born!)  Sprinkles some dark fairy dust (it IS Halloween, after all) & dashes off to explore more hauntings…

I do love it when it all just comes together!  I’d like to say that it’s all the magic of fae, but I’m a bit too honest for that… truth is, the gods were smiling and the planets were aligned, and who knows what else !?!  It just happens that way sometimes, when fabulous new items from different sponsors just fit together to create a unique and fantastic whole that is even beyond the sum of its parts…  In fact, I had absolutely no intention of joining a photo contest when I went to The Shambles to do my photo shoot.  I was just looking for some fog and some atmosphere, had seen some fabulous pix but hadn’t yet had a chance to explore the sim.  But once again, all the pieces just fell together, and the result? Well, I honestly don’t feel that ANY pic can truly capture the atmosphere that has been created here, with swirling mists & flying ghosts, especially not if you want to show an outfit lol!  My skills just aren’t there to do it full justice (I DID plan on adding some swirling fog around the edges, but wasn’t sure if I (a) had the skill, and (b) if it would disqualify from the contest).  But I did my best, my wings are beating happily, and honestly, that’s what really matters to me (although awards and such are always greatly appreciated, especially on those down days when the gods are NOT smiling!)…  But that is not this day… THIS day I urge you to go see this fabulous sim, while it’s still here…

I am a defender.  Others may like to hunt or to be the aggressor; I’m a more peaceful, nature-loving tree hugger type of fae.  But threaten my people or my way of life or the hidden wonders of the forest, and I’m there.  Being on the slighter side and very attuned to my surroundings, I tend to be relegated to either the outer or inner edges, acting as scout or one of the last lines of defense.  But just because I’m not huge and solid like the male warriors of my tribe, it doesn’t mean that I take my job as protector any less seriously or that I’m not willing to lay my life on the line for what I love…  I have trained and trained, to the point where my skills now equal those of any warrior, even if my size and strength do not.  I have learned how not to just compensate for what many see as shortcomings but to use them to a winning advantage against my foes…  And it looks like it might be the day when they are once again put to the test.  My inner warrior is ready and we will face whatever challenge awaits that threatens the inner circle!!!  This is how legends are born… when one small soul takes a stand against all odds to defend all that they love…
