I’m a romantic at heart, and although this movie classic is a thriller, it starts off so dreamy that it’s always been a favorite and the mere mention of the song puts stars in my eyes and puts me in a wistful state of mind.  This scene instantly created the thought in my mind, and I decided to just follow the notes… How can I go wrong with a gown like this?  (POSTNOTE: Who knew that I’d used this title back in 2019 and talked about the movie then too??? I guess it definitely is a favorite lol!!!)

My days of staying up all night are long gone, but I definitely do remember them!  The semi-exhaustion permeating everything, the “whatever, I’m not taking the time to change, let’s just get it done” attitude, the goal to handle all the necessary errands in order to just get back home and fall into bed… I’m still considered quite a night owl, especially considering that I live in the south where people tend to rise earlier to beat the heat and then they cocoon inside for most of the day.  I lived in NY for almost my entire life, and I still run on a variation of that schedule, although it’s admittedly a lot more difficult to go out and eat a late dinner down here lol!  I also never looked quite so stylish, especially after being out all night, but then again, this is SL and we can all look as stylish as we want, whenever and wherever!  Well, a few more stops, and I’m home to bed!!! A Fae’s Fantasy

Even a fae sometimes dreams of a different life… not just as a warrior or a high priestess or a princess or a simple shepherdess, but totally, wildly different (the way a human dreams of donning wings and owning the skies).  After dropping into the undersea worlds at Fantasy Faire (which sadly ends May 8th!!!!), I was tortured over an overwhelming desire to trade my wings and horns in for a tail, and thanks to my very very good friend who often plays as a mermaid (and gifted me the tail!!!), I took the plunge as it were into a whole new world (sorry, a whole new world of plays-on-words is open, and I simply can’t resist!).   Although I still have an awful lot to learn about underwater photography, etc., and my inventory is sadly lacking in mermaid paraphernalia and accessories, I am definitely hooked and anticipate creating many more posts of my fae dreamworld… not quite an alt’s alt, but definitely a different reality!  (As a side note, I just discovered that SL is celebrating the mermaid community and calling this “MerMay” with some special mermaid last names available for a limited time, so even though I am definitely not changing my name or creating another alt, my timing is perfect!)  And on that note, I happily flip my tail (it really is so cool lol), and swim off to explore the weekend sales and spend as much time at Fantasy Faire as possible before the gates close for the year!  There are several Fairelands with underwater areas to explore (The Isles of Aquarius and Sambaubee are where I indulged my first swimming adventure). And remember… the purpose behind Fantasy Faire is not just to celebrate the world of fantasy in Second Life… it’s a mega Relay for Life event to work towards a much larger and more critical fantasy, a world without cancer.  This is Fantasy Faire’s 15th year, and it has relayed more than $632,000 USD for the American Cancer Society in that time.  The window is closing for you to “shop for the cause” while enjoying the wonder and insanely varied creativity on display at this one-of-a-kind event.  Come and join us!!!!

I LOVE FANTASY FAIRE!  I just can’t get enough, between wandering the 22 lands (22!!!!!), each one with its own distinct personality and hidden secrets, shopping (yes, admittedly it’s probably what I do most), the events, looking at everyone else and the characters they create (though I have to say I get a kick out of the “regular” humans who IMHO always look a bit like they woke up in OZ lol!), even the radio!   I actually keep Fantasy Faire radio on at my home so I can always know what’s going on even if I can’t actually be there (putting together looks or sets for blogging can take quite a bit of time).  The Faire is open ONE MORE WEEK!  The gates close on May 7th… eek!!!! So let me put this right out there… I’m not a fan of kids in Second Life.  In REAL life, absolutely, I loved it when mine were little, love it now that they’re all grown up, and love seeing the grandkids (yes, I’m that old lol).  But on the grid? when it’s actually adults playing as kids?  If that’s your thing, I’m not judging you, it doesn’t hurt me in the least, I’m just not a fan.  But there are times when a shot literally demands other people, in this case it really screamed KID KID KID to me when I first started setting it up.  All I can say is that it’s my first time using mesh people to flesh out a shot (pardon the pun lol), and I have to say that I see a new drain on my lindens in the future lol…  Enjoy the rest of your weekend and your weekend shopping!

Defender of the Fairelands

I know, I know, this is so NOT typical of my life as a fae.  But in a way it is… I’m often positioned as a defender, a guardian (NEVER as the aggressor)… this is just the first time that I’ve shown the “after”, the result of being called to actually DO what I’ve promised time and again, defend the lands.  These lands were created with the blood and sweat and creative juices of so many… and I willingly defend them against all who might cause grief so that the Fairelanders can immerse themselves in the wonders of it all.  Fantasy Faire 2023 is in full swing, open from April 20th through May 7th, at which time the gates will close until next year.  Three weeks’ time, jam-packed with entertainment, quests, exploration, stories, and (of course) shopping, shopping, shopping… and most importantly it is one of the megaevents  of Relay For Life of Second Life.  RFL of SL is a part of American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fundraising, and Fantasy Faire 2023 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world, bringing their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.  It is a DO NOT MISS event, whether you or a loved one or just someone you knew have battled or are battling cancer, or if you just want to see the epitome of creative spirit that lives in Second Life.  Come, join us in the Fairelands!

Fantasy Faire, The Shimmering Fen

It’s here, it’s here! The most glorious time of year for anyone who plays fantasy, has any interest in fantasy, or just appreciates the incredible creativity of those who build the fantasy realms.  And yes, I’m talking about Fantasy Faire 2023, the premiere fantasy event in Second Life.  This event is so huge, so special, that it only happens once each year.  This year, the gates to Fantasy Faire opened a few days ago on April 20th, and they will stay open through May 7th.  A benefit for the American Cancer Society, its theme is Many Realms – One Vision.  Fantasy Faire 2023: Building a World Without Cancer.  Celebrating its 15th year, Fantasy Faire 2023 is literally the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world.  It is an event filled with EVERYTHING that Second Life has to offer.  To quote from the official press release:

Once again, naming a pic has been way too difficult. Sometimes I have an attitude in mind when I go to shoot; other times it might be the scene or a song that suggests one.  But in the vast majority, I’m just playing with different poses for whatever setting I’ve chosen to use, and since that attitude just kind of “happens”, they are (for me, anyway) the absolute hardest to title.  It used to be that I’d sometimes struggle for hours (or even a day lol) to come up with the “perfect” title.  Now I’ve learned that (a) there is no such perfection (I always ALWAYS come up with something better after the fact), (b) that it just doesn’t matter to anyone but me, & (c) that it just wastes a lot of time.  Right now, I’m running as fast as I can with all the things on my to-do list, so I’m just going with what I’ve got…  Happy Shopping!

Natural Beauty

Beauty comes in all forms, and its definition varies by person and even by time and place.  We all have different tastes in EVERYTHING, and on top of that, tastes change.  But the beauty of nature — in all its forms — is everlasting.  My heart skips a beat when I first come upon something in nature that I find beautiful… followed by serenity as I just sit and take it in.  I have several enduring memories of doing just that… sitting on the cliffs in Brittany France and in Newport RI, just watching the wind and the waves, breathing it all in…  watching the butterflies as they dip and hover over a vast field of flowers… so many!  My next vacation includes some time up in the northern islands off the coast of Scotland, where I expect I’ll be adding many more such memories to that treasure trove in my heart and mind.  I can’t wait! But in the meantime, I’ll just sit here a bit and soak in the beauty of the wildflowers, and the gentle breeze riffling the leaves on the trees… sighs… Happy shopping!
