People get so caught up in Valentine’s Day, you’d think it was the only day for love.  I’ve got news for some of you… it’s not! Love is all around us, every day; sometimes, we just have to open our eyes to see it. It may not be as obvious as a big bouquet of roses or a fancy box of chocolates or a sparkly piece of jewelry; it might be an unasked for cup of tea when you’re feeling a little achy or having one of your chores done for you.  The simple things, that all too often go unnoticed (something I know that I’m definitely guilty of).  That said, I’m still a sucker for getting all dressed up here in SL (it’s nowhere near as much fun in RL, much more uncomfortable lol) and having the big romantic evening, dancing to songs from the rat pack era.  I just do always try to be mindful as to the differences between the reality and the appearance of love… and then thoroughly enjoy them both (especially where they overlap)!  Now go do some shopping, and be happy!

It’s funny.  I don’t know how other bloggers work, but I’d say that about half the time I have an idea in my head before I go out to shoot.  I’ve already got a picture in my head, and then I try to capture that idea.  Other times, I have absolutely nothing or something very very fuzzy.  In those cases, I just pick a sim or two (sometimes it unfortunately becomes three or four) and wander, waiting for an AHA moment.  This was kind of a mix of those situations… I started with an idea in my head, but it fizzled out very quickly after the first few takes were just blah, so I grabbed a new landmark and hit the road.  Luckily it didn’t take long before a scene grabbed my imagination, and I suddenly heard the strains of Somewhere Out There playing in my head as this animation captured that feeling I often have of looking at a beautiful sky and wondering if one I love might be looking at the same sky at the same time.  It’s a beautiful sim; I’m glad my lack of imagination pushed me into taking the time to explore.  There’s still much more there to see, and I’m sure you’ll be seeing more of it in future posts.  In the meantime, happy shopping!

Summer Breeze

By this time of year, as I look out the window at the bitter cold rain and reach for my winter coat, my thoughts inevitably turn to warmer climes. I’m just not built for cold weather.  Then again, I’m not built for hot weather either. I like a rather narrow band of temperate weather lol.  Though I feel that with cold, there’s not much you can do other than bundle up or go inside.  If there’s a breeze, and you can lie in the shade, heat can not only be tolerable it can be pleasurable… unless it’s excessive, then you’re back to going inside! In any case, when you’re in the cold, the heat seems wonderful, and vice versa.  A typical case of the grass being greener.  Me, I’m ready to do the great migration from the northeast to the southeast… my bones are cold and my joints are aching! Only one thing to do… SHOPPING THERAPY!!!!  Happy shopping!

Music is such magic. It’s amazing how a song you’ve heard millions of times can become so different depending on when or where you hear it or whom you hear it with.   And once that happens, every time you hear that song, it will conjure up such memories, such emotions, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.  Is it that the music adds magic to the moment, or that the moment — or the person you’re sharing it with — adds magic to the music?  It’s probably one of those chicken-and-egg questions.  All I know is that there are songs that are forever indelibly inked on my heart and mind.  Perhaps that’s why the DJ has such an almost mythical role in popular culture. Valentine’s is one of those holidays that people tend to get really worked up about.  When you’re single, it’s a huge HUGE thing emotionally that you don’t have one. When you’re in a “young” relationship, you tend to go overboard and make the big gestures, getting the huge gift or doing insane things.  I remember I once decided to handknit a sweater for a new boyfriend… and I didn’t even know how to knit lol!  Surprisingly it came out rather well, thanks to a very good friend of mine who was an expert knitter and took me under her wing.  When you’re in a long settled relationship, you barely acknowledge Valentine’s, if at all.  It’s a nice thought, but you realize that it really doesn’t mean anything when compared to making a life together and going through its trials and tribulations together.  I will admit, however, for a certain weakness when it comes to Valentine’s inworld… perhaps because this life is already relegated to such a small corner of my overall existence, special events and days that can actually be shared take on new meaning, because most if not all are generally spent with real world commitments.  So yes I’ve gone overboard with the big gesture… yet here I am, all alone on the day, but I’m really ok with it.  Valentine’s is a lovely thought, but it’s just not that big a deal unless you let it become one.  And if I am feeling a bit blue, well, we all know what the remedy to THAT is!  A new kitten and more SHOPPING!  Happy Valentine’s Day and happy shopping!

Shades of Love

I know I’ve spoken about it before, but there are all different kinds of love in the world.  The fact is that love indeed makes the world go round, and to my mind, as long as no one gets hurt (who doesn’t want to be, that is), there’s really nothing wrong with any of them. So although this is definitely not my personal definition of love, for some people it might be.  Maybe Cupid just used a different kind of arrow to create a different shade of red…  in any case, happy shopping!

Love My Planet

Unless you have a heart of stone, I’m sure you’ve felt the impact of the tragedy of the fires in Australia.  Obviously, those of us who live halfway across the planet can’t possibly understand the full impact and the devastation.  But if you love this planet — and I surely hope you do — then you’ve felt SOMETHING.  Me, I’ve adored koala bears and everything Australian since I was a little girl and assigned Australia for my “independent study and presentation”.  I still remember the poster board I created with cut-outs and descriptions of koala bears, platypus, kangaroos, and dingos… I still have a collection of dozens of koala bears of all types.  So for me, the opportunity to help raise awareness (!!!) and much-needed funds was a no-brainer, and I jumped at the chance to incorporate it into my blogging.  I hope you’ll take the time to check out both events I’m blogging today… happy shopping!

So I seem to be behind in everything.  In RL, I’m behind in my chores. Behind in my work. In SL, I’m behind in my blogging. Behind in my landscaping, now that the snow has left the estate I primarily live on.  And yet, I feel like I’m always rushing, always busy, always late.  My head just isn’t where it’s supposed to be, which really isn’t like me at all.  It’s been this way ever since I got back from a little long weekend jaunt down to Florida to see my aging mom; I just can’t seem to get my head together.  Instead, I seem to be turning into a daydreamer, just dreaming my life away… I guess there are worse things to be, at least in the short-term.  But the month is gearing up now, so I’m giving myself a much needed kick in the you-know-what to get up and get going back to business!  As for all of you out there, happy shopping!

Coming Up Blank

There are a lot of things I really like about getting older, the biggest being that I care a whole lot less about what other people think.  But one thing I really DON’T like (aside from all the aches and pains and looks stuff lol) is the inability to connect with information that I just know is in my brain.  No I don’t walk into rooms and wonder why I’m there, and I still remember all the words to songs I grew up with and lots of movie quotes.  I still do pretty well on Jeopardy! every night. For me, the worst is when I see someone that I absolutely recognize, but either I just can’t quite place them or (and this is the worst) I know exactly who they are but can’t quite remember their name.  Now I’ll admit that although I’ve always been very good with faces, I’ve never been particularly good at names.  In fact I taught my kids at a very young age to always say, “Mom, you remember Mrs. so and so” in order to kickstart my memory. But now that they’re grown and I’m on my own, there are times that I’m standing there racking my brain, trying to make those synapses connect… though I will say that I’ve gotten quite good at holding conversations with people who THINK I know exactly who they are to the point that I walk away having absolutely no idea who I’ve been talking to lol, and I don’t think they have a clue! At least I hope they don’t! Not quite sure if that’s funny or sad… probably a mix of both.  Not much I can do about it either way lol, except to go do some shopping therapy!  Happy shopping!
