Maybe it’s the heat, but the days are feeling very long and I’m feeling a little lost. I also have been feeling “off”, which certainly doesn’t help.  I seem to be spending a lot of time just wandering, both in my RL home and here at my SL home, which I love more and more every day.  Admittedly the beauty of SL is that when you have an idea, you can easily make it reality (“reality” in virtual terms, that is), unlike RL where so very much more is involved (don’t let me get started on how long it’s taken us to get our driveway fixed… and then the guy we hired didn’t even show up… sighs…)  Now, where’s a good spot for me to watch this glorious sky and daydream, and wonder if it’s called daydreaming if it’s not during the day… and keep an eye out for fireworks for the 4th, knowing I could always fly over or take the boat… I love this life, but I’m just soooo tired…  😉

Saluting the Sunshine

If you’re not in the US, that may be meaningless to you, but in this country it holds all kinds of meaning… some deep, and some more along the lines of sunshine, barbecue, beach, and water.  I may not be able to have ANY of those things this year (except for the sunshine, the weatherman is promising sunny, though with tons of heat and humidity), but that doesn’t mean I won’t be enjoying all those things virtually… without all the traffic, without all the crowds, without the sunburn… and I’ll look so much better doing it too!  Here’s to YOUR 4th of July, whether or not you celebrate it!!!  😉

I just received a wonderful summer surprise! Seems my new part-time job — which already had flexible hours — has reduced SUMMER hours, where everyone leaves around noon or 1P.  Since I often don’t go in until 11A or noon, it immediately reminded me of The Merry Old Land of Oz — “We get up at twelve and start to work at one, Take an hour for lunch and then at two we’re done, Jolly good fun”.  It won’t quite be like that obviously; I’ll have to go in earlier, but it means I’ll have more spare time to work on some of the things on my to-do list.  First up has been experimenting with some of the photo settings in Firestorm, to try to create more depth… this shot is the result of my first effort.  For a first go, I’m pretty satisfied because I had some tough choices to make, and to me that’s always a good sign!!!!  Here’s to more great things to come (even if I’m the only one who ends up thinking they’re great lol!!!!)…. 😉

Time’s a funny thing.  Some hours seem to stretch on forever… others pass by in a rush.  Much better and greater writers than me have written about this; but I have have found that Second Life can create the illusion of both happening at the same time.  It’s a time warp effect that I for one absolutely love, although the return to reality can definitely be a bit jarring.  But talk about time warp!  I think my blog has gone and made changes all on its own without me, reverting to an old header photo on its own accord… The fact is that Crichton is updated, so a closeup of the “old him” really didn’t work anymore, but not quite sure how my blog knew that.  If it’s going to do anything on its own, it would be lovely if it could write itself lol!!!!  Well, time to do the Time Warp again!  It’s just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right!!! (and if you don’t get the reference, well, that’s ok lol; I’m just in a strange mood this morning) 😉

As you probably know, I’ve been here a long time.  And although I sometimes run down memory lane looking at old photos and laughing at what I used to think were great looks — just like we do in RL when we can’t believe we actually wore our hair like that or glasses that size lol! — the time capsule exhibit at SL16B really brought it home for me about how much has really changed since I first entered Second Life back in 2007.  A lot of it has obviously been behind the scenes, but it’s enabled everything that’s changed with how we look and how we move.  And I’ve realized that THIS is why I keep falling in love with new heads (because yes, as I mentioned several posts back, I have a new absolute favorite)… my new head is not just beautiful in the way I’ve always wanted to be (ALL the heads are beautiful), but the way she’s animated, the way her eyes and lips move, her animations… they very much reflect ME as well.  And to my mind, that’s the essence of SL growth… towards individuality.  Yes, we all use the same basic parts, but we don’t have to look like clones if we don’t choose to.  It’s not like that Twilight Zone episode where you pick a body from one of five models, hang your name on it to differentiate yourself, and that’s it.  You mix and match the parts you want, tweaking as you go, to create something unique, something that is as much YOU as you can.  And then the technology will move forward, new options will become available, and you get to start all over.  It’s a blogger’s dream!  😉

No, I haven’t made any vacations plans.  In fact, I haven’t even done any additional research. But just because the real me is stuck in RL doesn’t mean that Ceja can’t do Hawaii, and boy, is she doing it in style!  This Kona sim is fantastic, I just love everything about this look, and am yearning to hop a flight, go to Hawaii (where I haven’t been since my honeymoon many MANY years ago), say aloha and start having some incredibly fresh and delicious pina coladas! So my vacation plans haven’t progressed one iota, and I’m still longing to have my face in the sun and my toes in the sand.  It’s more than a longing actually… it’s almost a physical need.  But life has a nasty habit of getting in the way, and things just haven’t been falling into place the way I had hoped.  Still, I may just have to buckle up, face reality, and accept that I’m just not getting the vacation I want and look into what I CAN do at the moment.  The problem with that, of course, is that doing a “substitute” vacation at this point takes away the chance of doing the “right” vacation later on, because time and money is just never on my side. But sometimes you just have to surrender to the inevitable and do what you can do. After all, the beach is calling, and I must heed the call… we’ll just have to see where my toes lead me!  😉

Finding Balance

I’m beginning to understand why some bloggers don’t name their photos but just number them.  Personally, I’ve never liked the practice… it’s not quite at the level of pet peeve, like taking a vertical photograph and turning it horizontal — something I’ve never EVER understood, unless it’s in the hopes of getting a cover? ; but it does seem kind of lazy and to me, somehow makes the picture itself less unique.  But then again, there are times I agonize over what to name an image, only to have the absolute perfect name burst into my brain after I’ve published with something “good enough”.  This is one of those times.  Everything is done and ready to go, EXCEPT A TITLE.  No one is around. So I’m just going to go with what my life is all about right now… finding balance.  Between health and illness, dreams and reality, strength and vulnerability, and so much more.  One day at a time. So true… I guess that’s why it’s a cliché, right?  😉

The Beach Body

“The Beach Body”… an interesting concept. One we hear about all our lives; for some of us, one of those elusive goals we were never able to achieve for more than a fleeting moment of time if at all.  No, I won’t start ranting about our society and the harm it does to a girl’s self-image; there’s more than enough of that “out there”, and this is definitely not the right forum for it.  BUT I believe it’s one of the reasons we all love it here in Second Life.  Even those of us who don’t spend parts of our second lives blogging about the fashion world spend an inordinate amount of time on how we look because we have that magical ability to look however we’ve always wanted to, better than we’ve even dreamed possible, and then to change it at will.  You’d think that being beautiful and having the perfect beach body would lose meaning when everyone is beautiful and perfect.  And although BEING beautiful is not a unique or special quality in SL as it is in RL, what is important is its interpretation.  And that’s what I find so intriguing… everyone’s definition of beauty is so different.  Even when choosing the same mesh head, the same mesh body, the same skin, the same outfit, it’s extremely rare to see two avatars who look identical (unless they’re using ready-made and don’t tweak; don’t get me started on those lol!).  What I’ve also found is that one thing that holds true in real life is the same in here… the inner beauty is harder to find, but it’s really the one that matters overall.  To the beach!!!! 😉

Watching the world go by with a cup of coffee in hand has always been a favorite pastime of mine.  What better way to think, to observe, to relax, to figure things out, to de-stress, to find your strength, to gather your thoughts or your emotions, or just to be.  As a teenager, I remember sitting on the steps of the museum in NYC with my best friend, just watching and talking and drinking coffee.  At other times, I’ve sat on stoops or porch swings… now I tend to sit on my front steps or my back porch. The venue changes, the companion changes, but the coffee itself always remains constant!  (Although admittedly it IS sometimes iced in the hot weather lol!)  😉
