Maybe it’s because it’s a guy’s post, but for some reason, I’m just out of words for this blog. Unusual for me, to say the least. Maybe it’s because the heat has just crushed them all out of me. Maybe it’s because it’s Saturday morning and I stayed up way too late inworld last night playing cards & dancing. Who knows? Either way, everything in the pic really speaks for itself… so I’m just going to keep on sitting here, enjoying the breeze from the water, thinking & watching the world go by… 😉

Wow, hard to believe we’re more than halfway through July already. I haven’t been to the beach once, or really done anything that says “SUMMER” other than use a lot of air conditioning and try to stay cool.  In fact, it’s going to be so ridiculously hot this weekend that our outdoor plans were actually cancelled; instead, we’re considering going to the movies of all things.  Shakes my head sadly at what my world is coming too… oh well, at least here in SL I’m on the beach all the time, having fun, boating and so much more… truly an endless summer… and I don’t even have to worry about sunburn!!!!  Beach baby, go go go!!! 😉

Time’s a funny thing.  Some hours seem to stretch on forever… others pass by in a rush.  Much better and greater writers than me have written about this; but I have have found that Second Life can create the illusion of both happening at the same time.  It’s a time warp effect that I for one absolutely love, although the return to reality can definitely be a bit jarring.  But talk about time warp!  I think my blog has gone and made changes all on its own without me, reverting to an old header photo on its own accord… The fact is that Crichton is updated, so a closeup of the “old him” really didn’t work anymore, but not quite sure how my blog knew that.  If it’s going to do anything on its own, it would be lovely if it could write itself lol!!!!  Well, time to do the Time Warp again!  It’s just a jump to the left, and then a step to the right!!! (and if you don’t get the reference, well, that’s ok lol; I’m just in a strange mood this morning) 😉

Finding Balance

I’m beginning to understand why some bloggers don’t name their photos but just number them.  Personally, I’ve never liked the practice… it’s not quite at the level of pet peeve, like taking a vertical photograph and turning it horizontal — something I’ve never EVER understood, unless it’s in the hopes of getting a cover? ; but it does seem kind of lazy and to me, somehow makes the picture itself less unique.  But then again, there are times I agonize over what to name an image, only to have the absolute perfect name burst into my brain after I’ve published with something “good enough”.  This is one of those times.  Everything is done and ready to go, EXCEPT A TITLE.  No one is around. So I’m just going to go with what my life is all about right now… finding balance.  Between health and illness, dreams and reality, strength and vulnerability, and so much more.  One day at a time. So true… I guess that’s why it’s a cliché, right?  😉

Summer may not have officially begun, but as far as I’m concerned, once Memorial Day has come and gone, it’s summer! And although the definition of summer has changed for me over the years, as my life has changed, one thing has always remained constant… summer means BARBECUES!  And at my house, we’re old-fashioned… no gas grills for us, we still use charcoal, and BBQ the way we did when I was a kid.  I love everything about a charcoal grill — the smell, the taste, the charring — mmmmm, I’m making myself hungry lol! Waiting for that Kiss

I don’t know how patient a person you are, but patience is definitely NOT my long suit. I’ve worked on it for years, and I’ve definitely improved over time, but I’ll admit that I still like immediate gratification.  Sadly I’ve done a lot of waiting over the last few weeks… some of it really emotional and filled with worry and fear, some of it just long and boring, and some of it — like waiting for FlickR maintenance to be complete — just purely frustrating. But if it’s one thing I’ve learned is that you can’t avoid waiting, it’s just part of life.  Not only that, the payoff for waiting is often worth it… and in this last case, hopefully the ongoing and increasingly annoying problems with FlickR have been resolved. I guess we’ll all find out together.  I WILL say that my photostream is loading much quicker than before, but whether that’s temporary or permanent, well, time will tell. I just hope I didn’t jinx it by putting it in print lol!  😉

Lookin’ Good

We all have our little routines for checking our outfits before heading out, whether it be in real life or here in Second Life.  One of the things I love about SL (one of so very many lol) is that there’s no need for all that neck craning and awkward twisting to see yourself from all sides.  And let’s face it… it’s really critical in a world where parts of your body can pop right through your clothes as you move, which is why part of my pre-check is to dance and see what gives lol… no popped seams for this girl!!  Another benefit is that you get to appreciate the rear view when a designer does something special to enhance the back, like the stitching on the pockets of this dress.  But the idea is to approximate real life, so if I stand just so, I can see it in the mirror and yes, I think I’m lookin’ good from all sides! The verdict? Good to go!!!! Now the question is, where am I going?  😉

Running late to the Limelight

If you lived in NYC during a certain time frame, you may know (or at least have heard of) a dance and night club called the Limelight. It was a pretty unique venue for its time… a converted church, it made quite an impact even from the outside.  It was so popular, in fact, that it spawned other locations in the US, but the original has always been considered the most “significant and infamous.” For some reason, the combination of doing a city shot and wearing a skin called Lime brought all kinds of memories rushing back… not just of the Limelight itself, but of the neighborhood, where I lived for many years.  The Limelight was just a very New York place, and for those of us born and bred in Manhattan, it holds a special place in our hearts and minds… though I’ll be the first to say that this is definitely NOT the look I would have worn to the club and since I lived only a few blocks away, I would never have been hailing a cab either (not to mention that NYC sidewalks don’t look like this lol)! But those days are long ago and far away, so for now, all i have to say is TAXI!!!!  😉

  • Top:  MOZ Designs – NEW!  “Dani” Belted Halter.  Although this stylishly cut halter that includes the leather waist-cinch comes in a variety of patterns, I just couldn’t resist wearing one of the white versions.  And yes, you heard me (or should I say, read me) right… there are several different variations on white, based on fabric. I chose the white linen because I just love the way the pleating comes across, & the light summer feel of the texture.  As always, you can choose from individual colors or various fatpacks — whites, patterns, etc.  And in the fatpacks, you choose both the color of the halter, the color of the cinch, & the color of two belt-clasps on the back. People think blogging is easy. And maybe for some it is. For me, I wouldn’t say it’s easy (probably because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and get hung up in the details), but it’s definitely a labor of love.  I won’t go into all the details here… I’ve done it before, and if you blog you already know it; if you don’t, you probably don’t care lol.  But I’ve learned that beyond the skills of creating a look and a creative setting — catching a moment in time, if you will — are things like lighting, which can drive you mad! This blog is dedicated to a perfect solution for that, one that I am so thrilled to have found, & even prouder to be able to say that it’s by my newest sponsor, Salacity.

  • Lighting:  Salacity – Studio Lights.  One of the biggest challenges in taking fashion photos is getting the lighting right. You want shadows & a beautiful windlight, but you also want to be sure that what you’re blogging can be seen in the actual colors it comes in.  I had created my own little light source that definitely helps, but this set is a MAJOR step up. It includes a full range of lighting equipment based on what real life professionals use; these are active projectors, each set up to be exactly like its RL analog.  Each one has both an adjustable level of intensity (25%, 50%, 100%) as well as color (warm, cool, neutral).  For this particular shot, I chose the Single Spotlight & the Side Softbox, but there are several other pieces of equipment available as well.
