I am beyond thrilled to have had the chance to not just explore and enjoy Fantasy Faire 2020 but to be an official blogger as well.  It’s allowed me to explore much more of the world of fantasy than I probably would have otherwise, to delve a bit deeper, go a bit further.  I love the beauty, the magic, the enchantment… let’s face it, I play as a winged fae (though now that I’ve put on a mermaid tail, I definitely see more of that in my future as well!).  But let’s not forget that even though that there’s where MY heart and imagination takes me, the fantasy world also has its much darker side, one of demons and evil and pain.  I’ll leave most of that to other bloggers with different tastes and bents than my own.  However, that doesn’t mean that I can’t dip my toe in and dabble in the lighter side of grey, avoiding the deep dark shadows but maybe stepping out of the sun into the shady spots… After all, that’s what exploration and fantasy is all about…

  • Skin:  Stix – A beautiful fantasy skin with lots of eye & face “decor” without going overboard, available in 8 colors (I’m wearing the white).  See the closeup below for detail. In Omega & standard body skin. There are so many things I love about the Fantasy Faire, but to me the absolute best is the opportunity to explore all different aspects of what fantasy means.  For me, it generally means fae.  Which is why I thought the Faire was the perfect opportunity to slip into a tail and see what being a mermaid is all about.  That happens to be a lot harder than you might think when you don’t have a Maitreya body (seems that most mermaids are Maitreya) or you don’t already have a tail.  But after seeing mermaids zip through the waters at Melusina’s Depths (an absolutely amazing underwater realm at Fantasy Faire, with hidden grottoes and caves in addition to great shopping) and having fallen hard for the scale tattoos I’m now wearing), this fae was totally committed to seeing how the other half (well, maybe not half) lived…   As you can see, I succeeded, and I will be flicking my tail quite happily beneath the waves going forward on a somewhat regular basis, because it is just SO MUCH FUN!!!!!  Several items below are Relay for Life donations, so please, do a brand-new mermaid a favor and check it out… fighting against cancer is no fantasy!  Remember, Fantasy Faire is open only till May 10th!!!

  • Scales:  Nefekalum Tattoos – Ghost Blue.  These are THE MOST amazing scales because they use materials (which of course means you must have a head/body that supports materials & have Advanced Lighting Mode enabled in order to use them to their full potential).  I have to admit that these are the primary reason why I built my first mermaid avatar… I just had to have these scales!!!!  These unisex tattoos are also available in Gold & in Violet, all are RFL donations at the Faire store in Lamented Fens.
  • Hair:  Firelight – Wilma Fatpack, Fantasy Gradient Edition.  Fantasy Gradient is a beautiful new set of pastel colors that gradually change along the length of the hair, giving a stunning effect. I continue to explore the varied lands at Fantasy Faire 2020, and in each land I seem to awaken a new facet of myself, a new piece of this developing personality.  I adore these lands, so filled with creativity and energy and the desire to do good, to make a world without cancer not just a fantasy but a reality in the real world as well.  I am pleased and proud to be a small part of that effort, showcasing some items and throwing my own lindens into the effort as well.  Shopping with a cause is something I can definitely throw my wings behind!!!!  Remember, Fantasy Faire is open through May 10th… so much to see, so much to do, with daily events (see the Calendar HERE) , including performances & auctions, a quest, and so much more.  Well, I’m off to the faire! Defender of the Realm

It’s that part of our strange mix of day/night when I’ve taken it upon myself to stand lookout over my adopted land of Cassiopeia.  Although it’s not an assigned posting (there are no such things here, much to my dismay), I see it as my responsibility to defend and protect this realm that took me in, this world that is beyond time, without haste or deadlines, without illness and death.  I stand watch, ready to protect it from outside threats that no one else seems to perceive… a self-elected defender guarding the portals against those who would use time for their own nefarious schemes and destroy this land of joy and loving remembrance and memory in the process.  Here, in this wondrous world of mystery, I have found myself again and discovered a new purpose, a deeper meaning to this strange mix of influences that is me.  And I will not let those who are the prisoners of time destroy this precious and strange world that I now call home.  Not on my watch.

Secret Fantasy Hideaway

And the Fairelands are open! That’s right, Fantasy Faire 2020 has begun, open from April 23rd – May 10th! As an official blogger (!!!!) I had a day’s early access, and I spent hours just wandering and exploring.  It’s absolutely amazing, the amount and the quality of the creativity that has been poured lovingly into the 18 regions (13 shopping regions plus 5 Faireland realms that take us beyond commerce, from a Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, the Literary Festival, Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection).  And yes, it’s all to celebrate the world of fantasy, but there’s a very serious purpose behind this gathering, and that’s Building A World Without Cancer.  These very talented designers have all created & donated items whose purchase will go towards the fight against cancer. It truly is shopping with a purpose!

So whether you’re a confirmed fantasy enthusiast, into role-playing, or just enjoy exploring and seeing the depth and breadth of imagination that exists in this virtual world we share, come visit Fantasy Faire 2020.  The Faire has reawakened the slumbering fae within me, and I have been very busy bringing her up-to-date and creating a new look (she’s been asleep for years, before the dawn of mesh); you’ll be seeing and hearing from her in the days and weeks to come, and she i considering joining my blog as an ongoing contributor. Angel of the Morning

I’m not particularly into angels.  Yes I love wings, but even in my fae days (yes, once upon a time many years ago, I played as an elvish-fae hybrid) when I wore wings every day, I never wore angel wings. In fact, when given a choice between being an angel or a devil, I’d have to say I just about always go for the dark side.  But not this time.  Somehow this angel outfit just didn’t hit me as all that angelic, if you get my drift… in fact, it almost seems a bit devilish in that it just exudes temptation.  I found it to be rather inspiring, so much so that rather than just do it the easy way and shoot myself flying or hovering against a cloudy background, I decided to make it much harder, and build a small cloud “set”.   It reminded me of a lesson I’d forgotten of late… I have so much more fun when I do it the hard way, going a bit overboard and doing much more than is necessary in order to approximate the image that’s in my brain…  Well, time to hang up my wings and leave my seat in the clouds…  Happy shopping! (and to quote a show from a long, long time ago, “Be safe out there!”)

Attack of the Man (or Woman) Eating Spiders

With one week to go, we’re getting into the final stretch for Halloween.  I’m just really starting to look around at what’s available, and I have to say, there’s just so much quantity out there in every genre, it can be downright daunting to find the quality items. I have to say that one of my favorite items this year — in fact I believe it will rank among my personal favorites for a long, long time, gracing whatever land I own — is ATTACK OF THE MAN EATING SPIDERS from Tylar’s Treasures.  It’s just such a uniquely creepy item, it’s really cool!  The scene features a bare tree covered in a spiderweb. The ground beneath  the tree is covered in skulls and two whole skeletons.  But what really makes this item come alive is that it has 3 animated spiders — one of the giant ones wanders around the scene (yes, you can set his range!); another giant is attacking a skeleton in the foreground; and a smaller cousin is moving up and down on a web from the tree.  This can be seriously creepy stuff, especially if you get tangled up with the big animated spider… which happened to me the moment I tp’d to the event using the LM below (consider yourself forewarned lol).  Want even more creepiness?  The giant animated spider is copy, so you can have as many giant spiders running around as you can handle before calling for the exterminator!

  • Attack of the Man Eating Spiders –  TYLAR’S TREASURES … A must-have for anyone who does Halloween landscaping! Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, many vibrant subcultures lived in a wonderful virtual world called Second Life. Fairy folk and elves had land stretching across many sims, filled with art, song and creativity.  After dressing as fae and elf one Halloween and finding pure joy, Ceja and her partner decided to leave the human world behind. They created fantasy alts, and together as fae and elven prince they built a home in a marvelous treehouse near an open sea. Their home was a joyous one, full of color and fantastical flora and fauna.  But the time came when the elves and their kin departed SL for other words and the elven prince often had to travel to faraway lands on business.  What had been a rich and varied life became one of loneliness.  The two decided to return to living as human, and found that after such a long absence, it was once again fresh and exciting. Soon their fantasy lives faded into memory.  Life went on.  Then suddenly, a dragon appeared. His beating wings and breaths of fire rekindled those lost dreams and fantasies, and Ceja couldn’t resist building a glen for the dragon, full of the colors and richness that her elven home once held.  The road ahead is unclear… but for right now, it’s simply wondrous to have a touch of fantasy brought back, even if just for a little while…

THE SCENE

Just about everything you see is from TYLAR’S TREASURES, including:

  • Animated Dragon with Fire.  Dragon hovers over the perch (in itself a fantastic item), flaps wings & breathes fire every 4 seconds (just touch to start the animations).  Only a video could do this justice!  The detailing is simply awesome… just look at the “ribs” in the wings!   • Fantasy Grass Hill.  The perfect “foundation” for a fantasy build!  It’s a very low mound on which to place some of your fantasy scenes to transition from green grass to fantasy building.  Not only is it copy, so you can add as many as you need, it has a 4-color texture change menu — blue, pink, purple, white — to liven up your landscaping. A must-have for the fantasy landscaper!
