This is the birth of a new persona for me (yes, there seem to be several multiple personalities residing within one small avatar lol), the Dread Pirate Thea la Fae.  I have a feeling that she will make an appearance now and again, though piracy and buccaneering don’t hold a huge appeal for me, I do get a hankering to “shiver me timbers” every once in a while.  An outfit like this DEFINITELY puts me in the mood to taste the salt air and have some rum… unfortunately my parrot companion could not join me due to insurmountable issues with scripted objects the night of my shoot, but the next time Thea la Fae takes center stage I’ll be sure to include the screechy beast!  In the meantime, may you find safe harbor in this troubled world (and of course, happy shopping)!

Well Fantasy Faire has ended.  My real life was suddenly so busy and frantic with a 12-person luncheon I was hosting that I totally missed the last two days of the Faire.  The few days before that I was obsessively tackling some rather involved ideas (for me, anyway) that I’m now having a bit of difficulty making the transition back to human.  So I did the next best thing (or maybe even the best? I guess the answer is a highly subjective one lol)… I brought a touch of fantasy into what I consider a “real life” shot…  And there we are… back to reality!  Enjoy YOUR reality (whatever that may be)!!!!

A Fae’s Fantasy

Even a fae sometimes dreams of a different life… not just as a warrior or a high priestess or a princess or a simple shepherdess, but totally, wildly different (the way a human dreams of donning wings and owning the skies).  After dropping into the undersea worlds at Fantasy Faire (which sadly ends May 8th!!!!), I was tortured over an overwhelming desire to trade my wings and horns in for a tail, and thanks to my very very good friend who often plays as a mermaid (and gifted me the tail!!!), I took the plunge as it were into a whole new world (sorry, a whole new world of plays-on-words is open, and I simply can’t resist!).   Although I still have an awful lot to learn about underwater photography, etc., and my inventory is sadly lacking in mermaid paraphernalia and accessories, I am definitely hooked and anticipate creating many more posts of my fae dreamworld… not quite an alt’s alt, but definitely a different reality!  (As a side note, I just discovered that SL is celebrating the mermaid community and calling this “MerMay” with some special mermaid last names available for a limited time, so even though I am definitely not changing my name or creating another alt, my timing is perfect!)  And on that note, I happily flip my tail (it really is so cool lol), and swim off to explore the weekend sales and spend as much time at Fantasy Faire as possible before the gates close for the year!  There are several Fairelands with underwater areas to explore (The Isles of Aquarius and Sambaubee are where I indulged my first swimming adventure). And remember… the purpose behind Fantasy Faire is not just to celebrate the world of fantasy in Second Life… it’s a mega Relay for Life event to work towards a much larger and more critical fantasy, a world without cancer.  This is Fantasy Faire’s 15th year, and it has relayed more than $632,000 USD for the American Cancer Society in that time.  The window is closing for you to “shop for the cause” while enjoying the wonder and insanely varied creativity on display at this one-of-a-kind event.  Come and join us!!!!

Midnight at the Oasis

I’ve been so happily busy — obsessed even — with spending every spare second  that I’m not putting together fashion looks over at the Fantasy Faire.  Between shopping and exploring and doing on-site photo shoots, time has been FLYING by.  And then suddenly I realized that it’s already May and that the Faire will close in just a few days on May 7th and I’m panicked that I never spent any time with all the wonderfully awesome non-fashion goodies.  So I immediately unpacked all of my outdoor favorites and started seeing what would work together to create a dino-mite scene (sorry, sorry, sorry, I haven’t had my coffee yet!) that would fit in a photo frame.  For some reason, the song ‘Midnight at the Oasis’ started playing in my head (maybe it was on Fantasy Faire radio at the time? I honestly don’t know), but I can’t get it out of mind, and it was that or something about a meeting getting off to a rough start, so that’s the title I’m going with lol.  And now, back to our regularly scheduled program!

  • Dinosaurs:  Prehistorica – The Dawn Kingdoms – Amazing, amazing, totally AMAZING!!! I admit I went a bit dino crazy, but these are just so incredibly realistic (well, it SEEMS realistic, having never really seen a dinosaur I guess it’s all conjecture, now isn’t it?) that I just couldn’t help myself.  If you want to ride — or be — a dinosaur, this is definitely the place to go because they not only have all these to buy they’ve created a prehistoric land where you can RIDE since it admittedly takes quite a bit of space when you’re on one of the big ones.  All of what I used to make this scene & more are available at Fantasy Faire in the Faireland of Khumbala; you can TP direct to Prehistorica’s booth HERE:

I LOVE FANTASY FAIRE!  I just can’t get enough, between wandering the 22 lands (22!!!!!), each one with its own distinct personality and hidden secrets, shopping (yes, admittedly it’s probably what I do most), the events, looking at everyone else and the characters they create (though I have to say I get a kick out of the “regular” humans who IMHO always look a bit like they woke up in OZ lol!), even the radio!   I actually keep Fantasy Faire radio on at my home so I can always know what’s going on even if I can’t actually be there (putting together looks or sets for blogging can take quite a bit of time).  The Faire is open ONE MORE WEEK!  The gates close on May 7th… eek!!!! So much more to see and do!!!  DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT! It’s the premiere event for Relay for Life, helping support the fight against cancer.  And for fantasy folk like me, it is definitely the most wonderful time of the year!!!!

Defender of the Fairelands

I know, I know, this is so NOT typical of my life as a fae.  But in a way it is… I’m often positioned as a defender, a guardian (NEVER as the aggressor)… this is just the first time that I’ve shown the “after”, the result of being called to actually DO what I’ve promised time and again, defend the lands.  These lands were created with the blood and sweat and creative juices of so many… and I willingly defend them against all who might cause grief so that the Fairelanders can immerse themselves in the wonders of it all.  Fantasy Faire 2023 is in full swing, open from April 20th through May 7th, at which time the gates will close until next year.  Three weeks’ time, jam-packed with entertainment, quests, exploration, stories, and (of course) shopping, shopping, shopping… and most importantly it is one of the megaevents  of Relay For Life of Second Life.  RFL of SL is a part of American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fundraising, and Fantasy Faire 2023 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world, bringing their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.  It is a DO NOT MISS event, whether you or a loved one or just someone you knew have battled or are battling cancer, or if you just want to see the epitome of creative spirit that lives in Second Life.  Come, join us in the Fairelands!

Fantasy Faire, The Shimmering Fen

It’s here, it’s here! The most glorious time of year for anyone who plays fantasy, has any interest in fantasy, or just appreciates the incredible creativity of those who build the fantasy realms.  And yes, I’m talking about Fantasy Faire 2023, the premiere fantasy event in Second Life.  This event is so huge, so special, that it only happens once each year.  This year, the gates to Fantasy Faire opened a few days ago on April 20th, and they will stay open through May 7th.  A benefit for the American Cancer Society, its theme is Many Realms – One Vision.  Fantasy Faire 2023: Building a World Without Cancer.  Celebrating its 15th year, Fantasy Faire 2023 is literally the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world.  It is an event filled with EVERYTHING that Second Life has to offer.  To quote from the official press release:

OK, intellectually I get the whole egg thing for the spring, rebirth and mythological and pagan tales, but I do have to say that some designers do it better than others.  These are some of my favorites to build an “egg-celent” fantasy scene (sorry, I just couldn’t resist)…  And since all these eggs are rather on the large size & most have scales, they totally make me think of dragons.  And I do love my dragons, so I naturally snuck one in to my scene!!!!  Happy shopping!

The beauty of SL is to try on different looks or, in my case, totally different characters.  Each fae I become is way more than just changing an outfit… I transform into someone new, with different attitudes.  It’s a fascinating way to live, but so much a part of who I am, as a fantasy being living my life (or should I say lives?) in this fantasy world of ours… Each one has that touch of magic…  here’s how I created this amazing new me!

  • Outfit:  Jangka Design – Esmeralda, worn in Blue.  Once again, I’m out of superlatives when it comes to Jangka outfits… each one is so unique, so detailed, with so much personality that they literally bring my “character” to life.  With her hip sash complete with dangling “coins”, Esmeralda spoke “gypsy” to me, a strong warrior gypsy, ready to fight but also ready to live life to its fullest.  The bodice is slashed to show some skin (whatever color skin you’re in!), the stunning gold neck gorget, the armbands… I could go on & on, but the bottom line is that this is one more prime example of why Jangka is such a leader in fantasy design.  Sized for Legacy & Maitreya, she is 100% original mesh & is available in 7 fabulously rich colors PLUS 3 limited editions (boots are available in black or brown).  As always, the outfit just feels so authentic & looks so amazing! Ostara… I’m so happy to be an official blogger for “her” special fantasy event here in SL, Ostara’s Altar (a Dark Passions event), full of designer exclusives PLUS a 10L egg hunt. But my human kept stumbling upon references to her in the real world, so I found myself wondering about who she was and how this awesome event came to be.  Although there’s lots of debate and discrepancies (as with most things lol), Ostara is basically a modern pagan holiday, celebrating the spring equinox, which marks the beginning of spring and the awakening of nature.  Named after the ancient Germanic goddess Ostara or Eostre — who was associated with the dawn and new beginnings —  this is a time of rebirth and renewal when the natural world awakens from its winter slumber. It is a time when we can celebrate the return of the light, the growth of new life, and the renewal of hope. It is also a time when we can connect with the natural world, celebrate the changing seasons, and embrace the ongoing cycles of life.  One popular story about Ostara involves the origin of the Easter Bunny.  Essentially, the tale is that Ostara transformed a bird into a hare (how? why? who knows), and the hare responded by laying colored eggs for her festival.  Is this how the Easter bunny and the decorating of eggs began? Again, who knows, but the great news is that anyone who wants to celebrate the arrival of spring and the renewal of life can also participate in this holiday, regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs.  Bottom line, Ostara is a good time to literally and figuratively plant seeds for the future.  And that is definitely something to reflect upon, especially while shopping this fabulous event!  Take a browse through the Ostara’s Altar Shopping Guide ; then go see the event for some magical shopping, and enjoy the blessings of the season! Please note that none of these skins are “made” for my Gaia head, so I couldn’t use the shapes (I did use the brow shapes however); but even though the results varied somewhat from the “ad”, all 4 looked so good I had a hard time choosing!
