The temperature is finally warm enough for shorts where I live, so now of course my thoughts are turning to the beach.  Not quite sure if I’ll get to a real live beach this summer, but I’m certainly hitting the sand in SL!  The nice thing about the beach in SL is that you don’t end up with sand stuck in uncomfortable places, you don’t track it EVERYWHERE, and since I have a beach home, I can easily dress in any way I want to go for a stroll, have a drink, sit and read, whatever.  Sighs… if only it were so easy in real life, but I think it will take a bit longer for those carefree days of surf and sand to return… (Not to mention most of us look WAY better on the beach in our SL clothes than we do IRL lol)… Happy shopping!

I’ll admit it again… I’ve been struggling lately.  Blogging just hasn’t been coming naturally, and honestly, I think my pix show it.  (I know I’m not the only one either. Bloggers talk. Many of us are in the same place… it’s hard to feel creative when you’re locked at home and worried 24/7, if not downright scared.) This pic was different. It was a spark… I had already selected my outfit when I saw the pose, and then everything just fell into place… no struggle… it felt like old times… it felt fabulous! and I hope the results bear it out lol, but I learned long ago (well, I’m STILL learning) that I blog because I like it, and I can’t get upset when pix that I don’t believe are well done get more faves. It’s just the way it goes… The most important thing is that I’m happy, and that my sponsors are happy. Lately, I haven’t always been happy just ok, and that’s just unacceptable! So no more of that; if I’m not happy, it’s not getting published, it’s that simple, requirements or not!  It’s just not worth it. The only thing that’s more important is being safe… and that can get mentally distressing.  So I’ll be good to me, and you be good to you! Have you ever heard the expression “herding cats”?  I’ll never forget the first time I did… my all-time favorite boss, an incredibly smart little firebrand from Texas used it to sum up a meeting, completely confounding me.  Well, I experienced the literal meaning doing this shoot… first I had to wrangle some of my cats over to where the shot was already set up (yes, I’m a crazy cat lady, and have lots of cats milling around), and get them into pose positions.  But then one cat after another would fall asleep and poof! they transported back to their home spot and suddenly there would be a gaping hole in my little tableau.  And one cat managed to break out of pose and just start meandering away, so I needed to herd him back.  So the original 5-cat picture ended up being a 3-cat picture, but I think that’s still enough to highlight what I think are the absolutely adorable kitty design touches on this outfit (which I’ll mention are optional, just in case you’re not into them like I am).  I’ll admit, however, that I am glad that there’s no cat hair included!  Details below… and remember… stay safe out there!

Sighs, I don’t know about you, but I’m losing track of the days of the week.  Every day is like the last, with no breaks.  I barely leave the house… I was supposed to have had two surgeries by now…  some periodontal work (such fun!) to finish up a crown that is half done and some arthroscopic surgery on my knee for a torn meniscus.  Delaying either is certainly no big deal in light of what’s going on, but delaying the second does mean that my physical activity is limited… I can’t even go for long walks.  Since we were working to put our house up for sale, we spend part of every day going through boxes of old pictures, tossing this, keeping that, but as I’m sure you’re experiencing as well, the days can just stretch on interminably.  I wish I owned a boat, where I had the luxury of going for a sail.  But at least I have my virtual life, where I’m spending  way too much time shopping… and for now, I’ll just sit here, alone on my boat, soaking up the rays, and dream of the world returning to normal.  Remember… be safe out there!

This was a fun outfit for me to blog, but a tough one at the same time.  I know that it was inspired by something on the darker side for an event with a dark theme, but I just don’t do dark real well unless it’s Halloween, and even then it doesn’t feel comfortable.  And one thing I want to do when I really love an outfit is feel good about what I’m doing with it.  So although I considered the whole zombie hunting thing, I just couldn’t get it to a level that feel acceptable to my harshest critic (me).  So although I still went dark for me, it certainly is no horror show… but then again, this is a gorgeous leather outfit suitable for all sorts of moods, so maybe where I ended up is where I needed to be after all. Either way, I had fun exploring a few dark corners looking for the right shot… I highly recommend exploring outside your normal venues… followed up by some shopping therapy!!!! Happy shopping!

So I seem to be behind in everything.  In RL, I’m behind in my chores. Behind in my work. In SL, I’m behind in my blogging. Behind in my landscaping, now that the snow has left the estate I primarily live on.  And yet, I feel like I’m always rushing, always busy, always late.  My head just isn’t where it’s supposed to be, which really isn’t like me at all.  It’s been this way ever since I got back from a little long weekend jaunt down to Florida to see my aging mom; I just can’t seem to get my head together.  Instead, I seem to be turning into a daydreamer, just dreaming my life away… I guess there are worse things to be, at least in the short-term.  But the month is gearing up now, so I’m giving myself a much needed kick in the you-know-what to get up and get going back to business!  As for all of you out there, happy shopping!

So I don’t know about you, but I just love having days where I never really get dressed and just hang around the house in my pjs. It may not be complete downtime… there’s always some cleaning and basic chores that need doing, and of course I’m always doing something for my blog, but just the act — or “non-act” as it were — of not even putting on “real” clothes can be utterly delicious.  It just feels decadent and pampering, even if I end up logging in remotely to my office and working for a full day, the fact that I’m doing it in pj’s just makes it more bearable and even somehow “bad”.  And who doesn’t like being bad now and then lol?  But even if just for an hour or two before or after bedtime, this is definitely a perfect outfit for lounging comfortably…

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season are the lights.  I just love walking the dog after dark, and seeing all the decorations lit up in the dark… even though they’re the same night after night, they still make smile, each and every time.  That’s why one of my favorite parts of this year’s SL Christmas Expo — which you hopefully know by now is the last mega-event of the year for Relay for Life and it’s fight against cancer (this event’s mission is specifically raising money to fight children’s cancer) — is the 2nd Annual Lights of Hope Decoration Contest, where they take those beautiful outdoor decorations that I enjoy so much here in the real world and do them up big time inworld.  I’ve included the poster below with some of the particulars, and to quote the formal description:

“Each of the builders has decorated the outside of one of their stunning houses in holiday style and brought it to the Expo.  Stroll the Holiday Road neighbourhood at the Expo and vote for your favourites by donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk in front of each home! 100% of all “votes” go directly to the American Cancer Society.  Be sure to pop over to the Real Estate Office in the neighbourhood where some of the builders have graciously placed out their entry home for sale in an American Cancer Society Christmas Expo vendor.  But wait there is more!  Linden Lab® Partners With The Expo to Help the American Cancer Society Fight Childhood Cancer!  Linden Lab® will be decorating Linden homes as part of the Lights Of Hope contest. That’s right,  teams of Lindens have been untangling lights, checking bulbs, inflating Santa’s and climbing to the rooftops to hang lights on their Linden homes.  Do we have a Clark Griswald amongst them?  Maybe a Martha Stewart?  It’s up to you to decide what team has the best-decorated home.”

I just love love LOVE this pair of outfits. They work so well together, but then they also work so well on their own.  It’s pretty rare I think in a paired set that the man’s outfit works as well as the woman’s does… sometimes it does tend to come off as more of a companion piece than an awesome outfit in its own right.  With Hans and Freya, they are equally fabulous as standalone looks, but when together?!? Look out!  Absolutely awesome!!!  The pattern itself is very unisex, all original textures, with a wonderful assortment of colors. My personal favorite is the green because it really enhances my eyes,  and the blue just makes my Durzle’s eyes really pop… sighs, just knocks me out… but if you look at the full body shots below, you can see that other colors look great too. But if the pattern/colors are unisex, the cut and style are definitely NOT.  Although my sweater is comfy and relaxed looking, the plunging neckline and little miniskirt are VERY feminine.  And Durzle’s pushed-up sleeves and tight-but-not-too-skinny jeans advertise all his masculine charms.  Definitely a love story… one that gives me that peaceful, easy feeling…

It’s amazing how things keep changing and evolving.  Sometimes I just like to stop and think about all the changes and developments I’ve seen here on the grid in my 12 years here.  In fact, this blog post represents a lot of firsts. Number one, it’s my first post using Bakes On Mesh layers (BOM), which now that Firestorm has released a BOM-enabled viewer, will start becoming mainstream as an option to using appliers as more designers and mesh makers jump on board.  I’m lucky that Akeruka (the maker of my primary head) was an early adopter, updating all their deluxe heads — male and female — for BOM.  Although it does offer some interesting options, I wonder how it will impact the world of mesh.  Mesh completely upended the world we knew… will BOM now turn everything back on its head? Time will tell, I suppose; for now, I’m just kicking myself for having tossed all those system tattoos & makeup, but one thing is for certain in SL: there will always be more to buy!  As for first number two: it’s my first post for Out Shop Cancer, the grid-wide and marketplace shopping event benefiting Making Strides and the American Cancer Society.  Starting Oct. 1 and running the entire month, this event will take shoppers across the grid, exploring and shopping at stores in support of Strides. Store-owners will use American Cancer Society breast cancer vendor kiosks to feature special products in their stores. A directory of participating stores will be available at the Strides office on ACS Island as well as on the Making Strides Second Life website.  You can see me there on the list of official bloggers, part of my ongoing effort to use my blogging and try to do some good in the world, and I’m proud to say that the brand for which I’m blogger-manager — Allure Couture — is a participating store as well.  To kick it off, then, it’s only right that I feature one of our outfits where 100% of proceeds go to support the fight against breast cancer.  In light of the enormity of both of those things, my third first is just a little thing, but to me it’s pretty big… it looks like I finally figured out the emails that go out automatically to my email subscribers.  Of course I won’t know until after this is posted, so fingers crossed!   • Skin:  7 Deadly s[K]ins – Jazzy, worn in Oak browless.  This pack of Omega face/body skins also includes BOM skins; because I just figured out my BOM-enabled head but haven’t experimented yet with a BOM-enabled body, I mixed the two types, using BOM for the head & Omega for my body & IT WORKED PERFECTLY!!!  (One note in case you try the same… you must do the face/body Omega skin first & THEN do BOM, otherwise the applier knocks you out of BOM mode.)  Whichever way you choose to go, Jazzy is a simply gorgeous skin with just a light touch of the most awesome soft moist lipstick.  Fatpacks of 5 dark or light tones are available EXCLUSIVELY at the Sense Event until Oct 8th.  A We Love to Blog Designer.
