The minute I saw this outfit, I knew I wanted to blog it. And the look came together so easily, it was like a dream… but the shoot!!! OMG, talk about a nightmare. I know it’s my own fault… I get an idea in my head, and sometimes I just can’t let it go. This outfit immediately spoke to me of competent young professional… that air of quiet confidence when you feel totally secure that you not only know your stuff cold but you look damn good doing it.  And yet I couldn’t find a pose I liked or a venue/backdrop that worked, and I searched EVERYWHERE. I got sidetracked and spent time doing a shoot as a schoolteacher in a classroom; I ended up with a really good shot, but it just wasn’t quite sitting right and I wasn’t happy. Then suddenly the PERFECT pose dropped in my inbox, and there I was, reinvigorated to go back on the hunt, widening the search to include a conference room.  Suddenly, Marketplace to the rescue! Personally, I’m thrilled with the result… it may not be exactly what I envisioned, but it captures the essence to perfection.  And to me, that’s what it’s all about.  The pose (as you’ll see below) is called “Cappucino?”, but really, no one should expect this girl to be getting anyone their coffee…  😉

I don’t work full-time anymore, so you’d think that weekends would be just another day. But old habits are persistent, and weekend mornings still feel special, and lazing around is not just allowed, it’s almost mandatory lol.  And I worked hard to show off a blend of products here, some of which is so brand new it’s not even available yet! But it all feels so natural and so comfy… just perfect for Saturday and Sunday mornings and for every day, don’t you think? 😉

I can’t remember ever having had as much fun doing a photo shoot as this one. This is such a sexy outfit, perfect for a night out on the prowl; I had envisioned being propped against a bar, surveying the scene. Imagine my excitement to find this bar where you can dance on the bar Coyote Ugly-style! Since I LOVE to go out dancing, this was a ton of fun for me, especially since they kept changing up the dance. Admittedly it was also somewhat frustrating since it was (a) hard to catch that perfect moment when my feet were actually on the bar and not either in the air or buried in the wood and (b) where everything that needed to be shown could be seen in the shot, but I can definitely say that it was a ton of fun snapping away to the rock-n-roll tunes!  Many thanks to Alex Avion for the LM!!!  Enough work though… now to get back to my dancing!!!!  😉

The fit, where it clings in the right places without looking tight. The little details, like the black edging on the dress & the hanging laces on the boots. Just WOW. All of us in Second Life know how hard it is to explain to “outsiders” how important our SL lives and relationships are.  In point of fact, most of us learn to just keep quiet and share only the barest minimum (if anything at all) about our lives on the grid. And let’s face it… Real Life does need to come first because it’s, well, real. But when it steps in and causes a long separation in SL, it’s hard. It’s been almost 3 weeks since my long-term partner has been inworld, and I can’t help but peer through the ether and wonder and wait, and count the days, trying to keep faith and believe…

This is the first time I’ve ever done my blog “on the road” so to speak. It’s been quite the challenge, from getting my laptop to allow me to save pictures (my virus protection was blocking it), to remembering/installing the name of the font for my “signature”, to getting access to my WordPress dashboard when everything that I had installed at home suddenly didn’t work when I was away.  I had been so worried about connectivity too; the last time I was here visiting my mom, the wifi had been at a snail’s pace and it was impossible to be in SL. They recently upgraded the community to fiber optics and wow, the difference is amazing! The speed is even better than I have at home, which is going to result in several phone calls when I return!! I guess I needn’t have worried about hitting my requirements and getting my blogs out on time, because it’s not an issue getting it out while away! And it’s been awesome being able to be in every night and just play around, which is perfect with so many events opening this week!!! I grew up in New York City, and spent most of my adult working life in Manhattan.  Riding the subway was an integral part of that existence, which meant trying to stay looking put together for the office while hanging on through the crowds… Here I’m certainly not contending with all those people — the thought of having a car all to myself like this would actually be terrifying lol — but the feel of trying to keep your balance in heels and not miss your stop is real enough… even if the space and cleanliness is not! I’m coming up on my 12th rez day in Second Life, and although I find plenty of things that I love, it’s somewhat rare that I find something truly different and unique. This incredible dress is one such item. The dress is called Slither because the texture is animated and the dress appears to actually move… it’s totally mesmerizing (see the video inset below)… I actually found it difficult to get dressed because I kept finding myself just watching it lol! It’s curious that I absolutely cannot abide snakes in real life — I actually stop breathing if I’m in proximity to one — and yet here I am, wearing a dress that slithers and another snake curling around my neck!  Will wonders never cease? Hmmm, maybe I’m actually spellbound by this texture!?! Either way, I’m going to enjoy the magic of the night!  😉

Valentine’s Day is one of those days I always have mixed feelings about. It’s wonderful when you’re in the throes of early romantic love (but then what isn’t, lol?); excruciating when your heart is broken or your soul is aching. The rest of the time — which is most of life — it can be alternately charming or annoying. As with most things here in Second Life, Valentine’s gets done to extremes… and that means there are some awesome finds out there… especially if you’re cool with hearts and flowers! Reflecting on Choices

What was it I was just talking about in my last blog about things falling together so easily? Hah! Well, sometimes they don’t. Or let me correct myself… sometimes I just get in my own way.  In doing some of my normal running around once I had my look completed, I stumbled upon a location and put together what I thought was a wonderful shot.  And then I realized how many days I had left before I go away for a bit, where I THINK I’ll be able to blog but can’t really be sure about the connection.  Bottom line:  I had to rethink my shots and try to “double up”.  So that fashion shot went into the storage bin as a possible idea for future use (only one of those has ever actually worked out lol) as did another using the beaded lamp that was in the preliminary stages so that I could combine the two into this one.  I’m actually really happy with the result… would I have been happier the other way? We’ll just never know lol!! But that’s the whole thing with choices, big and small… you make the best ones that you can based on the information you have, you live with them, and you move on. I just recently turned down a new sponsorship for an event, because they would have assigned me items to blog. (As of now, I choose which items to blog for all my sponsors.) Was it the right choice? Was I being “too diva”? It felt right at the time; it still does. Will it tomorrow? You just never know… Every day is a new moment, new choice.  😉

So I’m one of those bloggers who tries very hard not to just take a “fashion model” shot against a pretty background.  Sometimes those are admittedly phenomenal shots, but they’re just not the style that I’ve been working to develop.  On the other hand, I find that gowns are extremely difficult to capture in a natural type setting since many of the venues where you’d expect to find gorgeous gowns are just drowning in lag and therefore impossible for high resolution photo shoots.  So for this fashion shoot at least I decided to do what Vogue would do… shoot in an exotic locale that manages to capture the essence of the gown, which in this case is a bit more untamed and risque both for this designer and for this model! If only I could REALLY do this on location!!!! 😉
