It’s been a tough winter, even down here in Florida.  We had a sustained cold in the 20s and just about every plant died (and yes, we covered them, but to no avail).  But spring is in the air, we are getting new plants ready for planting, and soon it will be green and blooming once again.  One of the things I love about SL is the immediate gratification… in two days, all the snow was gone from my land, and there is flowering lushness everywhere you look… if only it were that simple IRL!!!! One of my favorite activities in SL (along with shopping and dancing) is to play games.  All types of games — cards, board games, you name it.  Come to think of it, it’s one of my favorite things IRL too lol, although I admittedly am not a good pool player, I still have fun.  Not doing something well doesn’t usually stand in my way of at least trying to hold my own, since I know that you never improve at anything unless you keep on slugging away at it! I am, however, a much better shopper lol, which is why I enjoy blogging so much… it’s the best excuse for shopping! Speaking of which, I’m off to do my weekend shopping! Enjoy!

I’m a bit late in posting this (the event closes tomorrow), but I’ve had a really rough few days.  Here I am, planning to shoot this adorable kitty-cat outfit when my own kitty, suddenly out of the blue, stopped eating,  and crawled into a corner he’d never ever been in.  A few hours later (about 1A) he started screaming and writhing intermittently, reminding me of when I passed a kidney stone a few months back.  Sadly, the urgent vet care near me closes at 11P, so all I could do was lie there on the floor with him, stroking him, talking softly, and just being there.  Eventually I fell asleep for about an hour, and when I woke, he was gone.  It was a hard death because it was obviously so painful, and I was so distressed my body went right into some kind of stomach reaction (food poisoning maybe?).  Bottom line, blogging was just not the priority.  But I’m back, missing my Rudy (see him below), and posting this shot in honor of my boy…

I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.  It just seems to be one of those overly commercialized days, creating a desperate “need” to both give and receive cards, flowers, candy, jewelry, etc.  How many tears have been shed over the lack of having a Valentine? I know how many I personally shed when I was a teenager and young adult.  So no, I’m not a fan of Valentine’s Day.  But love?  I’m definitely a romantic at heart, I just don’t believe that it has to be so regimented…. loving and being in love (which really are two separate things) should be natural and personalized, demonstrated in small and meaningful ways ALL the time, not just on Feb 14th with “surface” expressions.  But still, Valentine’s Day deserves an acknowledgement, and hopefully it reminds us all of the importance of love in this world that is increasingly hard.   Love is all around us, all the time, even if it’s not right there, shouting, like it is on this specific day.  Happy shopping!

I love the holidays and look forward to them like everyone else, but I’m already reaching that saturation point where I just wish they were over already… the music is wonderful the first 20 or 30 times you hear it, singing and dancing a little along with it, but by the 500th time, it’s enough already!  I love the twinkly holiday decorations, especially ones done with style and taste, as opposed to haphazard quantity, but honestly, those blow-ups have just got to go! So many houses where I live have crowded blowup scenes going on, and honestly, it’s just so tacky.   That said, I try to avoid overload myself… I mean that one extra candy cane can just tip it over the edge lol! When I first tried on this amazing outfit with this particular hair (both being at the same event), I was immediately hit with a strong sense of French style.  I even went so far as to dress my partner in what I consider French style, and greeted his rez-in with a “bon soir”…  for my blog shot, I envisioned strolling down a French boulevard or through a French market, baguettes in my arms, perhaps the Eiffel Tower in the background; just something very undeniably French, perhaps with a title along the lines of Je m’appelle Ceja Laval.  But SL was against me (not that unusual lol); I could get the baguettes, but not the French setting.  This, then, is where I netted out… and I do have to say, it may not be Paris, but the bread alone makes it French in spirit! Ooh la la!  😉

So one thing I’ve noticed over the years as I’ve gotten older… it can be a LOT harder to get service in bars and places like that.  When you’re in your 20s and 30s, especially if you’re attractive, bartenders and maitre d’s JUMP to help you.  As you age, you become more invisible.  One place in particular – the Spice Market in NYC – really stands out in my mind; it was so frustrating we actually walked out rather than have a drink and then dinner.  No way were we going to give them our hard-earned money when they ignored us.  That said, if I looked like this, wearing an outfit like this, I doubt that would happen, but then again, I’m overly dressed for some SL venues lol!  Anyway, I LOVE this look, and doubt I’ll be ignored anywhere I go!  I hope you like it as much as I do! Love this look, but this outfit pulled me in two very different ways… first, I leant towards “redefining biker babe style”.  But then I did a whole shoot that just wasn’t sitting right, and then the overall look I’d done evoked in me the feeling of driving long winding roads.  When I started playing with poses, this idea grabbed me and made me feel very European (maybe it’s the cigarette??) while also invoking a simpler time (the hairdo is very 50s I think, but before my time lol).  So in my mind, here I am, feeling very European driving along the coast in Southern Italy.  I can’t pinpoint WHY all of this is playing in my mind, but honestly, who cares? I felt great, thought I looked great, and had a great time cruising around some winding roads in my roadster with my little dog for company till I pulled off for a little roadside break… Whatever makes you happy, right? Now for some shopping happiness, lol…

I’m a reader, and I definitely read a lot, generally speaking at least one book a week (this year I’ve already read 62 books, though that admittedly includes some titles I abandoned part-way through).  A bookstore — especially a 2nd hand bookstore! — is one of my happy places, especially when I find a book that’s been on my wishlist for years that for which I haven’t been willing to pay full-price (which is most books lol). That thrill of a successful book hunt is quite heady, and if I’m lucky, the title in question lives up to it.  But even if it doesn’t and ends up abandoned, that high of discovery remains! Having a fae alt, the idea of dressing up for Halloween just doesn’t do that much for me. Interestingly enough, that’s how Thea got her start… I dressed up as a fairy for Halloween (my partner Durzle as an elf) for a long-ago Halloween, and I loved having wings so much that I created a whole other identity.  That said, when you’re out dancing for your Friday date night and it happens to be Halloween — so the majority of people are in costume and the music is almost exclusivity Halloween themed — you have to at least give a nod to the holiday.  THIS then, is my nod to Halloween… and my partner found it to be utterly bewitching!!!  I’ll just put the witch hat away till next year, but the dress, well that is going to stay front and center in my closet!
