I do love the beauty and wonder of a wintry landscape!  The world just takes on a sparkly, glittery quality, the epitome of a winter wonderland.  One of the things that’s so much fun being a fantasy blogger is that I not only get to dress the part, I get to BE part of the story, to become someone or something that just belongs.   Having just spent some time IRL with a little girl who absolutely adores the movie FROZEN, I have that vision in my head, so it was great fun to step into a similar role.  (However, I have NOT been so happy experiencing being FROZEN trying to upload to FlickR!!!!)  But although I may look as cold as ice, with my warm fae blood, I never feel the chill!  Sending a few fairy blessings your way to launch the New Year off to a fabulous start… happy shopping!

It’s been just about a year-and-a-half since I awoke from my deep slumber and was reborn as a blogger of fantasy.  Although it’s definitely taken some adjustment and lots and lots and LOTS of trial and error, resulting in repeated revisions and updating, I have to say that this fae has finally reached a place of happiness.  Yes, yes,  there will still be lots of changes in the future, a fae needs to change and grow and evolve just like everybody else.  The fact is, though, I still find this world of SL fantasy so wonderful and exciting, I enjoy agonizing over every detail, every search for the perfect accessory or pose or setting.  And fantasy in SL seems to be growing and growing…  years ago, its popularity was in a steep downward spiral, especially after the elven migration to Inworldz (I went too for a little while), and I had lost my will to live in that diminishing space.  But now!!!!!  The love of fantasy seems to be growing by leaps and bounds, which you can see just by looking at all the new fabulous designers making totally unique creations… and this in turn has given birth to several events dedicated to this world we love.  I am soooo very thrilled that I have been accepted as a blogger for one of the newest events centered around roleplay, The Narrative.  Filled with fabulous fantasy finds (giggles at the triple alliteration), it’s definitely a don’t miss event for everyone who can appreciate the beauty and wonder of fantasy in this second life we share.

OK, so it’s not quite the light of  Earendil, but then I’m no hobbit… just a fae wondering what’s making that noise out there in the dark.  I’ve been noticing that I feel a bit defenseless when not in warrior mode, missing my sword or bow or magical weaponry.  But it’s not always appropriate to walk around armed, so instead I need to rely on my senses to protect me from whatever might want to harm me or those under my protection.  But this is life in medieval times… weapons need to be at hand, or we need to stay near home for even a modicum of safety.  And we always ALWAYS need to stay somewhat alert and on guard.

  • Dress:  Poet’s Heart – Earl Ingstad.   I have to admit that I shied away from this outfit when I first saw it, as not being fae enough for my style.  Wow, was I ever wrong!!!!  Yes, it’s more medieval than fae, & it’s more high-necked than I generally wear, but it’s such a uniquely wonderful look with elven detailing along the bottom edge of the dress, the sleeves, & up the front, & I totally LOVE the fur stole!!!  It really fits medieval life when that chill is in the air & central heating hasn’t been invented.  Earl Ingstad comes in four color packs or a fatpack of all 19 colors.  Each color pack has a HUD to customize the dress, the waist banding, the front, the fur, & metal for the fur chains separately, so you can change up the look as much as you’d like.  She is sized only for Maitreya & Hourglass (though she fits Legacy perfectly on me), & is available in the Casual Fantasy room at the mainstore. Sighs, my wings are drooping, I’m so tired from all the holiday shopping… the “standard” weekend sales are often exhausting, but all these Black Friday sales???  Not to mention that SL had to throw it’s own brand of action into the mix, making it extremely sloooooooow to attach/detach anything, so trying on demos (which is a must, since no amount of fairy dust will fix something that just doesn’t work on my head, my body, my shape, and so on).  I’m just going to sit pretty for a bit, relax and unwind with a bit of nature and some furry friends to replenish my spirit and my strength.  I see more shopping ahead, but for now, a much needed break to enjoy some of my recent fantastic finds.  May a little fairy dust brighten your shopping excursions in the days ahead!!!

Why is there so much stress and distress in the world?  It saddens my heart, and all of the personal stress my human counterpart has been undergoing (some minor surgeries, end-of-year financial decisions, hosting a major dinner for the first time in her new home) is cascading over onto me.  In one way, I’m happy to share the burden and lighten her load as much as I can, but in the other way!!! I want nothing at all to do with all those human things, and the only stress I want to experience is in dealing with the crowds at major shopping events while I search for the perfect accessory or makeup, or battling evil, or questing, or… well, you get the idea.  If I’m built for escapist fantasy, then what is real life stress doing intruding into my existence? Even a role-playing fae likes to dress up sometimes and try something a little different.  This opportunity to go Egyptian and dress for the age of the Pharoahs was one I couldn’t pass by!  I was tempted to look for the “King Tut dance” (think Steve Martin on classic Saturday Night Live), but to my mind, Queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra were way too elegant for that!  The look was really fun to put together, and even more fun to wear about the grid.  Both Egyptian items are available at the Fallen Gods Anniversary Market, which also has a hunt going on as part of the celebration.  I highly recommend taking a trip to the Land of the Pharoahs,  checking out all the fun items and events, and exploring this unique and creative sim!!!  Happy shopping!

Cancer.  The word just sends a chill right through me.  I don’t know anyone, anyone at all, whose life hasn’t been affected in one way or another.  And although I myself have been fortunate enough not to be impacted in my immediate family, it has hit that next ring of in-laws and cousins, as well as the rings of close friends and of neighbors.  That’s why it was so important to me to join forces with Strides Against Cancer and lend my small blogging efforts (not to mention my personal lindens) to the SL Renaissance Festival in its efforts to raise $10,000 USD for the cause…  after the first 2 days, more than $1,000,000L — that’s $4,000 USD — had already been raised.  Won’t you join me at the festival and lend your support? One of the many things I’m discovering that I love about the Renaissance Festival (which is currently running through October 3rd) is how it’s making me really think about what life might have been really like back in medieval times.  I’ve read some historical fiction that’s placed in that era, but the Festival brings it home in a very different and somehow more personal way… shopping the fashions to wear… looking at furnishings for my home… watching jousting and sword fights and archery for entertainment.  Today I’m channeling my inner Lucrezia Borgia, searching through my “medicine” cabinet, selecting my poison with great care, keeping in mind that “back in the day,” the line between medicine and poison was extremely blurry.  It’s how women were often accused of being witches because of their knowledge of herbs and other things, which could often help, but could also cause great damage, intentional or otherwise!  Whether or not you roleplay medieval, the Renaissance Festival is an awesome glimpse into another life, another time… just like it is IRL!!!  Don’t miss it… it only comes once a year!!!!  Details about all the events and activities and entertainment and, of course, shopping directories and slurls, can be found HERE.

Hear ye, hear ye!!! I’m all a-flutter!  I’ve officially joined the blogging team for the SL Renaissance Festival 2021, which opens today Sept 24th.  That means I’ve been thinking medieval and waiting for what seems like forever!!!!  This is only the second year for this now annual event, which has at its heart raising much needed support and funds for the fight against breast cancer.  Anyone who follows this blog knows that both my human counterpart and I do whatever we can, whenever we can, to help support this worthy cause.  I mean, come on, what’s better than shopping with a purpose?  And the Ren Fest combines that most worthy of causes with anything and everything medieval!!!!  For a fae like myself, that’s way WAY up there on the list of favorite things!  Hoozah!!! Mother of Dragons

No, I’m not trying to be Daenerys Targaryen, but let’s face it… she’s a pretty impressive role model.  (Ok, she went a little crazy there at the end, but let’s just focus on the positive, shall we?).  I see myself as more of a “Defender of Dragons”, allowing these magnificent creatures a small but private space of their own on my land to grow and flourish in peace.  Once, many years ago in my previous lifetime, I had a circling dragon up above my land who nested at top of my waterfall, but he flew off to search for a new home and a new destiny during my long absence.  Perhaps this little one will grow up to take his place, only time will tell.  Or — as a flight of pure fantasy — perhaps he could be trained to search the grid for fabulous fashion fantasy finds (try saying that 5 times fast!!!)!  Well, until that day, I’m on my own… but since I’m good at sharing, here’s what I’ve found!  Happy shopping!
