If you’re not in the US, that may be meaningless to you, but in this country it holds all kinds of meaning… some deep, and some more along the lines of sunshine, barbecue, beach, and water.  I may not be able to have ANY of those things this year (except for the sunshine, the weatherman is promising sunny, though with tons of heat and humidity), but that doesn’t mean I won’t be enjoying all those things virtually… without all the traffic, without all the crowds, without the sunburn… and I’ll look so much better doing it too!  Here’s to YOUR 4th of July, whether or not you celebrate it!!!  😉

I just received a wonderful summer surprise! Seems my new part-time job — which already had flexible hours — has reduced SUMMER hours, where everyone leaves around noon or 1P.  Since I often don’t go in until 11A or noon, it immediately reminded me of The Merry Old Land of Oz — “We get up at twelve and start to work at one, Take an hour for lunch and then at two we’re done, Jolly good fun”.  It won’t quite be like that obviously; I’ll have to go in earlier, but it means I’ll have more spare time to work on some of the things on my to-do list.  First up has been experimenting with some of the photo settings in Firestorm, to try to create more depth… this shot is the result of my first effort.  For a first go, I’m pretty satisfied because I had some tough choices to make, and to me that’s always a good sign!!!!  Here’s to more great things to come (even if I’m the only one who ends up thinking they’re great lol!!!!)…. 😉

So my vacation plans haven’t progressed one iota, and I’m still longing to have my face in the sun and my toes in the sand.  It’s more than a longing actually… it’s almost a physical need.  But life has a nasty habit of getting in the way, and things just haven’t been falling into place the way I had hoped.  Still, I may just have to buckle up, face reality, and accept that I’m just not getting the vacation I want and look into what I CAN do at the moment.  The problem with that, of course, is that doing a “substitute” vacation at this point takes away the chance of doing the “right” vacation later on, because time and money is just never on my side. But sometimes you just have to surrender to the inevitable and do what you can do. After all, the beach is calling, and I must heed the call… we’ll just have to see where my toes lead me!  😉

“The Beach Body”… an interesting concept. One we hear about all our lives; for some of us, one of those elusive goals we were never able to achieve for more than a fleeting moment of time if at all.  No, I won’t start ranting about our society and the harm it does to a girl’s self-image; there’s more than enough of that “out there”, and this is definitely not the right forum for it.  BUT I believe it’s one of the reasons we all love it here in Second Life.  Even those of us who don’t spend parts of our second lives blogging about the fashion world spend an inordinate amount of time on how we look because we have that magical ability to look however we’ve always wanted to, better than we’ve even dreamed possible, and then to change it at will.  You’d think that being beautiful and having the perfect beach body would lose meaning when everyone is beautiful and perfect.  And although BEING beautiful is not a unique or special quality in SL as it is in RL, what is important is its interpretation.  And that’s what I find so intriguing… everyone’s definition of beauty is so different.  Even when choosing the same mesh head, the same mesh body, the same skin, the same outfit, it’s extremely rare to see two avatars who look identical (unless they’re using ready-made and don’t tweak; don’t get me started on those lol!).  What I’ve also found is that one thing that holds true in real life is the same in here… the inner beauty is harder to find, but it’s really the one that matters overall.  To the beach!!!! 😉

Wow, it’s really hard to believe that Memorial Day is over and past, and summer is basically here. Definitely doesn’t feel like it, it’s a relatively chilly day. But it was back to work after the holiday weekend, and now that’s it’s just about June, it’s also back to my full blogging schedule… geez, what ever happened to the long slow days of summer lol?  I do seem to be a little off my game in terms of blogging… I’m a bit unsure of myself, having trouble picking my shots, my windlights, not quite trusting my judgment. I grew up in Manhattan, spent most of my working life there, and still go in relatively frequently, so it’s rather strange to have my alter-ego doing what I often do, in a neighborhood — on an actual corner! — where I’ve done it (though the streets are always much much more crowded lol)! I do have to admit, however, that I doubt I’ve ever looked quite so stylish in RL as I do here in SL in this amazing 2-piece black dress with sheer black lace at the wrists and in a long widening slit down the leg with matching heels. Sighs… oh to have body sliders in real life… 😉
