OK, I’m a bit of a homebody.  My husband doesn’t understand how I can be happy not leaving the house for a few days at a time, how I used to like working from home.  But this? This is way too much, even for me.  The way things are now, it’s not like there’s even anywhere to go or anything to do because it’s all shut down, but there’s definitely a sense of being trapped.  The fact that it’s getting colder outside — we’re supposed to get snow in a few days! — doesn’t help either.  And on top of it all my seasonal allergies have kicked in, so it’s just a mix of things that are working together to make me depressed.  I know it’s not just me… everyone is feeling it to some degree.  I’m not sure though if that makes it better or worse.  And the fact that there’s no near end in sight doesn’t help either.  Thankfully there’s the grid and my life and activities there (though to be honest, most of it IS blogging at this point), but I was definitely drawn to doing something exuberant and free, as opposed to the trapped feeling so many of us are experiencing.  Stay safe out there in the real world… chin up (advice for myself as well!)… I don’t know about you, but I’m still shopping… IRL I’m waiting for a sea sponge to arrive so that I can do some painting touchup; here in SL, there are so many events there’s never enough time…  oh wait! Music is such magic. It’s amazing how a song you’ve heard millions of times can become so different depending on when or where you hear it or whom you hear it with.   And once that happens, every time you hear that song, it will conjure up such memories, such emotions, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.  Is it that the music adds magic to the moment, or that the moment — or the person you’re sharing it with — adds magic to the music?  It’s probably one of those chicken-and-egg questions.  All I know is that there are songs that are forever indelibly inked on my heart and mind.  Perhaps that’s why the DJ has such an almost mythical role in popular culture. They wield the power of the magic, the power to not just transform moments forever, but to transform lives.

I don’t know if you’re one of those confident people who can walk into any situation and just feel like they belong.  Me, I’m a decent faker.  Inside I rarely feel like I quite fit in, but I’m told that it usually doesn’t show.  It’s a skill I worked long and hard to develop, because I’m always worried that everyone can hear that little voice that I hear, and just see how I’m not one of “them”.  Sometimes I wonder if everyone feels that way to a degree but that they just don’t let it bother them.  Me, I often have a soft panic going on under the surface that Everybody Knows… and mind you, this is not just IRL but here on the grid as well.  The difference is that in Second Life I know that I always look the part, that I know how to pull a look together.  Maybe that’s why I’m a shopaholic?  Not sure who knows the answer to THAT one lol, but in any case, enough with the self-analysis, and on to the shopping! You know how much fun the holiday shopping is when it starts? But then at some point, it’s not fun any more, it’s become more of a chore.  Who’s left? What did I forget? What do you mean it’s out of stock? How can I have absolutely NO idea what to get for this person or that? Well, I’ve hit that point.  Thankfully, I bought my one of my most difficult gifts yesterday — my mom who is in memory care — so all gifts are bought, EXCEPT FOR ONE.  My sister’s birthday is New Year’s Eve, so I have a wee bit more time than for Christmas, but I’m pulling a total blank when it comes to ideas.  The harder I push myself to come up with something, the higher the wall.  Sighs, at least it’s just one lol.  Of course my son just called asking for help with ideas for the family, so here I go again lol! Hope you’re having an easier time of it!!!!  It will all be over soon… in the meantime, happy shopping!

Leaving on a Jet Plane

I’m one of the lucky people who doesn’t travel for Thanksgiving because I’ve been the one to make it for years and years.  We do quite a production too, with tons of dishes.  We used to have about 20 people for our annual gathering, coming from multiple states by car and by plane, but as children have grown, the composition of the extended family has changed, so this year will be quite small… just 5 adults and two little children, and no one will have to fly.  But the news is already full of tales of past Thanksgiving travel horrors and the impending nightmares ahead.  So among all the things I’ll be thankful for this year — and there are quite a few, especially with the year I’ve had! — NOT having to go to the airport and deal with that side of the holidays will definitely be  among them! If you or your loved ones are not quite so lucky, I feel for you… and hope you have more patience and stamina than I do when I fly! But till then, happy shopping!

Hello, Ghostbusters?

So I just realized that just like IRL, I wear a lot of black in Second Life.  There’s one major difference, though… I can do a lot more with it here on the grid! Just the ability to change the tone of my hair and skin, not to mention all the fantastic accessories that are available, makes everything pop so much more.  And of course the styles are just so exceedingly more exciting to wear… and not just because I have the body of my dreams, but it sure doesn’t hurt lol!  IRL I’m often struggling to make the clothes I own fit the occasion; it’s rare that I go out and buy something special unless it’s for a really important wedding or something of that nature. It’s often the exact opposite in SL… as a blogger, I’m usually searching for the “scene” to wear my clothes.  But it generally all works out, in both worlds, though admittedly sometimes it’s harder than others… especially IRL! I will say this though: I have so much fun setting up scenes here in Second Life! Take this one for example… the moment I entered this spooky little backdrop, the entry side “closed up” behind me, and all I could hear in my head was Ghostbusters music… from there, it was easy!  After all, in a spooky situation, who you gonna call???  Happy shopping!!!

  • Backdrop:  Adorably Strange Wares – The Daire Backdrop.  I think this is the coolest backdrop! First off, once you enter, the back “closes” up behind you, so it’s like you’re suddenly in an enclosed room. Spooky, but it also means that you can shoot from any angle without worrying about falling outside the perimeters of the box! Then the ghostly colored lights seep out from under the doors & then mist away; the lights behind the barred door brighten & fade. Truly awesome!
