I love so many things about snowflakes, but one thing is certain — they can be soooo bright when the sun hits them! Certainly not an earth-shattering observation, but one that may have me looking for my sunglasses next time… maybe I can find a Christmas pair among all the holiday goodies in Second Life?

  • Skin: 7 Deadly s[K]ins – Adventure, worn in Butter, browless, another of the AMAZING skin gifts on the Advent calendar at the store.  NOTE: Here’s how the Advent Calendar works. It’s already a whirlwind holiday season in Second Life, with even more events than usual and tons of wonderful must-have items both to buy and to blog, some supporting American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (which I always indicate in the blog copy).  It’s exhausting, exciting, and sometimes tempting to take the easy route and go with “good enough”, but anyone who knows me, knows that I ALWAYS do things the hard way lol! Which doesn’t mean I’m not willing to take a moment now and then, and just stop, breathe and collect my thoughts. Now let’s think… who’s been naughty and who’s been nice? Need to keep those lists straight… 😉

I’ve been so inspired by what some other bloggers are doing in terms of setting up entire room scenes that I decided to give it a try. Of course, since I’m primarily a fashion blogger, I still had to put myself in the middle of it all lol! I was lucky enough to have found the sim Northern Lights, which is open to all — including rezzing! — even the houses (at least for now, since the sim is ALMOST complete but not quite).  I was able to find a house that completely fit my purposes — the room was the right size, the right angle, and I was able to easily derender the existing fireplace in order to replace it with my own so that nothing in the set was there beforehand other than the walls and windows, which clearly showed a beautiful snowy landscape outside.  Creating this scene was fun to do, it was extremely challenging, and I’ll admit that it’s definitely no accident that I’m having a martini!!!  But all for a good cause, because ALL the room decor that I used is from the SL Christmas Expo 2018, which runs through Dec 9th — all of it with items donated by designers with 100% of the proceeds going to Relay for Life! — and is therefore part of the fight against cancer!

There’s so much going on here, let’s first talk about ME and what I’m wearing (here’s a close-up because I’m a little lost in that room!!!):

 

  • Outfit: GeMyles Couture – Ayanna Denim Checks, I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this dress (haven’t taken it off for days lol)! Hugs snugly in ALL the right places, so many little details like the slight openings up the arms where it’s buttoned. Includes the triple leather choker in both black & white (I couldn’t decide, so I wore both & staggered them lol) in regular & RLV versions, & these incredibly sexy little boots with steel straps & heels. Sometimes, it just clicks like that, and wow, you have a scene like this one, fit for an Ice Fairy in the frozen depths of the forest… sounds like the beginning of a fairy tale, doesn’t it? A Toast to SL Christmas Expo 2018

The minute I knew I was going to blog both Chance and Miranda, the two formal holiday outfits in this photo — which are BOTH 100% donation items for Relay for Life at SL Christmas Expo 2018!!!!, I had a vision in my head… and no, it wasn’t of sugarplums dancing, it was actually pretty close to what I ended up achieving. That’s pretty rare… the vision generally morphs slightly due to necessity or ends up veering off into a totally different direction.  And I really do have to give special thanks to the sim Let It Snow! for such success in this case, because I’ll admit that I’d almost given the vision up after having completed two photo shoots at other sims when the owner gave me temporary rezzing privileges so that I could use my own couples pose here at Let It Snow! at what I felt in my heart was absolutely the one-and-only perfect pavilion for this shot. Thank you, thank you, thank you Milly!

Thanks also to my good friend Nick Patrono, who volunteered to stand in and model for Chance. I think Nick did a fabulous job, which is why the next champagne toast (yes, it’s off-camera) was to him! Thanks Nick for being my other half in this shot, and looking so good at it!!! 🙂

SL Christmas Expo is Open, Time to Go!

The SL Christmas Expo 2018 is finally open! In case you don’t know about it, this expo is in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It’s only open for 10 days, but with so many wonderful designers donating 100% of the proceeds from EXCLUSIVE items and 50% from other select items, these 10 days provide more than ample opportunity for all of us to help Give the Gift of Hope. I went over today to take a peek during Early Access for bloggers, etc., and the Expo truly is amazing!  There’s raffles, hunts, gachas, entertainment, contests, ice skating, reindeer games, photos with Santa, and of course shopping galore! Lots to see, lots to do, lots to buy! So c’mon, car’s ready… here’s the address to the main landing area. I have to say this was one of my favorite blogging shoots since I began blogging last year. I experimented for a while on my home studio platform, making the set. The awesome pose set includes the window/wall but on most shots, I found it left me wanting more… so I put two together to create more of a room, then decorated it for the holidays. In my head, I visualized snow falling outside, and so the search began for a wintry sim with falling snow that would allow me to rez… surprisingly difficult to find. Beautiful snowy sims, yes; rezzing allowed, yes; both together, no. Until I found Footprints in the Snow, which for a nominal group fee, allowed me to rez in the beautiful wintry scene with the falling snow. Set-up was easy since I’d already done it, I start shooting and OH NO! For some reason I never realized that if it was snowing OUTSIDE the window, it was also snowing inside my little room set! I was determined to make it work anyway, and interesting enough there are windlights that don’t pick it up that much (and others that really do, which is good to know for when I really want all that falling snow effect all around!).  I was able to easily edit out most of those flakes that did make it through, though you might wonder where some of those shadows are coming from lol… now you know! Personally, I think the final result is well worth all the work… maybe we’ll get lucky and have a snow day… hmmm, wonder how we’ll occupy our time?  😉

http://I'm a-twinkle, but I'm no twinkle-toesThe last few days I feel like Dorothy wandering through Oz, though the line running through my head is “things change so quickly here.” Just a few days ago, all the sims were full of autumn splendor. Now more and more of them are turned to winter’s chill. However, for the first time in years, I’m living on an estate where I’m not winterizing my own property which is causing me a bit of a dilemma in terms of blogging… although there are many absolutely stunning winter sims, I haven’t been able to find too many that allow rezzing. I’ll talk about that more in tomorrow’s post, but for now, I’m just going to get off my feet for a while, and let them thaw out!!! 😉

So Thanksgiving is over, and hopefully everyone has at least silently acknowledged all we are thankful for in both our real and second lives. I, for one, have many many things to be thankful for, and have made special note of how important it is to remind myself of these things when the going gets rough and there’s a really really bad day or two or more, which will, of course, happen because that’s just part of life.  For right now, though, I’m lucky enough that it’s all good, although I’m finding myself immediately immersed in all the joys and stress and insanity of the holiday season.  One reason is I signed up to blog not one but TWO holiday events here in Second Life… this post features an item for the impending Peace on Earth (or POE as it’s commonly called) Hunt, SL’s longest running grid-wide hunt. Although I’ve participated as a hunter for years and years, this will be my first time as a blogger.  And all I can say is that based on the previews I’ve had of some of the prizes, it will definitely be a hunt to remember!
