Wishing on a Star

http://Wishing on a StarSo my wishes have come true, because things are definitely improving slowly but surely on the medical front.  I will say, however, I have newfound respect for caregivers because I have to say, being a caregiver is hard work!  Not only am I managing all the meds (and there are a LOT of them), I’m making sure he’s eating properly, doing his PT without overdoing, staying positive, etc., PLUS I’m doing all the things I normally do around the house, plus all the cooking, all the food shopping, all the cleaning, all the errands, all the dogwalking, all the EVERYTHING. I’m exhausted, physically and mentally, to the point where I’m the one who fell asleep on the couch this afternoon for a few hours.  And I plan on going back to work on Monday.  Oh boy… But on a positive note, I’m no longer scared to death or frantic with worry.  Now it’s just soldiering through, and doing what needs to be done.  And I’m pretty good at that. Though I am seeing that it will take me a bit longer to be able to resume my normal blogging schedule than I had thought, but I’ll get there… One day at a time, right?  😉

Things are definitely settling down; I was able to bring my hubbie home from the hospital on Wednesday.  It’s hard to believe what they can do medically today… 5 days after open heart surgery, and he’s home. Of course, that now makes ME the primary caregiver, which is a bit stressful when you’re dealing with a strong-willed stubborn personality at the best of times, let alone when they’re feeling cooped up, restricted, and in pain. But at least I’m done with the commute and sitting in a hospital; I’m back at home with my dog (who is THRILLED to have us home) and my cats and my computer, and to top it off, my son has come home to help out for a few days. I can even go in to work for a few hours without worrying (though I’m giving myself one more day)!! I have such a back-up of incredibly wonderful items to blog; my sponsors have been exceptionally understanding about my situation and released me temporarily from my obligations, but being me, I still want to try to meet as many as I can without shirking on my caregiver duties or over-stressing myself to the point where I can’t deal with my patient calmly and without blowing my stack (unless the situation really calls for it, which it might!)… After being cooped up for so long in a hospital — and driving back and forth in the rain, since that was it was doing here for days and days — I thought a relaxing spring picnic was definitely in order, since when you picnic, everything feels right in the world!  I’ve got the drinks… now where’s the beef!  😉

Yes, I know the bird in this pic isn’t a swan, but for some reason this image made me think of the line by Cream “I told you ’bout the swans, that they live in the park”.  I never really understood the song, and obviously there’s no swan (though the egret is a beautiful stand-in), but the song is stuck in my head. Now it might be stuck in yours as well lol… At least it’s a great song! So while you’re listening to the soundtrack play over and over in your head (as I am in mine), take a look at what inspired the walk in the park… this insanely gorgeous shabby chique outfit (is it chic or chique? Lookin’ Good

We all have our little routines for checking our outfits before heading out, whether it be in real life or here in Second Life.  One of the things I love about SL (one of so very many lol) is that there’s no need for all that neck craning and awkward twisting to see yourself from all sides.  And let’s face it… it’s really critical in a world where parts of your body can pop right through your clothes as you move, which is why part of my pre-check is to dance and see what gives lol… no popped seams for this girl!!  Another benefit is that you get to appreciate the rear view when a designer does something special to enhance the back, like the stitching on the pockets of this dress.  But the idea is to approximate real life, so if I stand just so, I can see it in the mirror and yes, I think I’m lookin’ good from all sides! The verdict? Good to go!!!! Now the question is, where am I going?  😉

The Taste of Summer

So the weather has been seesawing here in the Northeast, from beautiful warm spring days to blustery cold ones reminiscent of winter and fall.  And although I’m admittedly an ice cream addict year-round, nothing speaks to me of summer quite as much as when the local dairy bars start taking down their shutters and getting ready for the season.  I happened to drive that way over the weekend, and although it will still be several weeks before they actually open, they were hard at work putting on a fresh coat of paint and doing some general sprucing up and spring cleaning.  It just sets my heart all aflutter lol, and totally made me think of this amazing backdrop/bloggerkit by Salacity.  When I saw this Slurpee prop and this hair at the Saturday Sale, I knew it was fate… mmmm, the taste of summer!!! 😉

Fresh as a Daisy

If you lived in NYC during a certain time frame, you may know (or at least have heard of) a dance and night club called the Limelight. It was a pretty unique venue for its time… a converted church, it made quite an impact even from the outside.  It was so popular, in fact, that it spawned other locations in the US, but the original has always been considered the most “significant and infamous.” For some reason, the combination of doing a city shot and wearing a skin called Lime brought all kinds of memories rushing back… not just of the Limelight itself, but of the neighborhood, where I lived for many years.  The Limelight was just a very New York place, and for those of us born and bred in Manhattan, it holds a special place in our hearts and minds… though I’ll be the first to say that this is definitely NOT the look I would have worn to the club and since I lived only a few blocks away, I would never have been hailing a cab either (not to mention that NYC sidewalks don’t look like this lol)! But those days are long ago and far away, so for now, all i have to say is TAXI!!!!  😉

So I’m really sorry (and a bit ashamed) to admit that I seem to have gotten lazy when it comes to some parts of my blogging. I don’t have automatic backups (too costly), and after my one problem a long long time ago, I just drifted away from always putting a copy of my blog post text into a Word document. And today, I’m paying the price for that, because my blog post from the 18th — where I introduced Crichton — is gone.  Just gone. Error message 404!  So I had to stop everything in the midst of doing THIS post, and go back to try to recreate it as best I could — at least the credits, I didn’t even try to redo the introduction because I have no idea what was on my mind lol —  because it’s simply not fair to my sponsors that the post advertising their products has just gone poof.   Now that it’s all done and posted, Crichton and I are going to enjoy the rest of this beautiful day, and relax and forget about my oversight and the additional work it caused!  And yes, it’s a good lesson learned, but wow, is it ever frustrating! 😉

Falling a bit behind in my blogging duties because, surprise! I’m moving again in SL. Although I absolutely loved my last place, my little hideaway reignited my love of all things nautical, and I was fortunate enough to locate the most perfect piece of property in a quiet corner of a beautifully landscaped (and highly ruled, so the theme is strictly kept) estate with easy access to the Blake Sea. So between packing up and moving, landscaping, and of course the holidays in Real Life (oh yeah, real life), it’s been a bit hectic. But oh my, when I saw this outfit, it blew everything else away…

  • Outfit:  !!smesh – Disco Outfit.   • Boots:  IAF – Laced Knee Boots, absolutely stunning open-front-laced over-the-knee boots with a 16-color HUD that lets you set different colors for the boot, the laces, & the sole.  I absolutely ADORE the metallic silver that was soooo perfect for this outfit!!!   • Skin:  7 Deadly s[K]ins – Cedar worn in Caramel Browless. How does she do it? Every skin a winner! Cedar is very clear & fresh-faced, with very subtle highlighting around the eyes… a perfect canvas for whatever makeup you might want to apply. And an outfit like this definitely calls for some makeup lol, though I kept it somewhat subtle so that Cedar herself could shine through! THIS IS A SEMI-RECREATION OF A LOST POST.  Sadly, I have no record of what I said, though I’m sure it was terribly witty, incredibly deep, and the best post ever written in the history of SL fashion blogging. That said, I’m not even going to attempt to recreate what I wrote, because I have no idea of what I was thinking at the time, though based on the title and the shot, I’m sure it had to do with how Crichton is a fantasy in many, many ways. Be that as it may, we’ll just chalk it up to the vagaries of the internet and my unwillingness to pay for backups, and recreate what’s really important… the credits.

  • Skin:  7 Deadly s[K]ins – Judas in Caramel with Hairbase & one of my favorite beard styles; I just love the bit of the “bad boy” look that the cut in the eyebrow gives & the light moles.  Don’t get me wrong… I like a nice guy, but I don’t necessarily want him to look like one.  Also worn: Male Body Applier – Slink Hand/Feet & Body Caramel Hairy, which is one of three body types available (Smooth, Trail, & Hairy). 
  • Hat: Stone’s Works – Pendant Necklace, Spirit of the DragonRFL; the detail is amazing on this unisex pendant with a built-in resizer, especially when you consider that this is a FREE HUNT ITEM at the Fantasy Faire, which runs from April 18th – May 5th.  A decade-long tale of innovation, community and kindness supporting the American Cancer Society’s Hope Hostel at Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, the Fantasy Faire is 16 regions of shopping, arts, performance and adventure.  In addition to this incredible gift, Stone’s Works has three Relay Vendors with a 100% Donation, which means that all proceeds go to the fight against cancer. 
  • Body:  Slink – Physique Male Bundle Mesh Body, including Physique Body, Dynamic Hands, & Feet… I don’t know about anybody else, but to me, the hands & feet at least are CRITICAL.  Don’t get me wrong, the body is absolutely desirable, both for looks & so that you can have the shape you really want instead of standardized numbers, not to mention that clothes will really fit sooo much better, but the hands & feet with the classic body are just, well, gross.
