People get so caught up in Valentine’s Day, you’d think it was the only day for love.  I’ve got news for some of you… it’s not! Love is all around us, every day; sometimes, we just have to open our eyes to see it. It may not be as obvious as a big bouquet of roses or a fancy box of chocolates or a sparkly piece of jewelry; it might be an unasked for cup of tea when you’re feeling a little achy or having one of your chores done for you.  The simple things, that all too often go unnoticed (something I know that I’m definitely guilty of).  That said, I’m still a sucker for getting all dressed up here in SL (it’s nowhere near as much fun in RL, much more uncomfortable lol) and having the big romantic evening, dancing to songs from the rat pack era.  I just do always try to be mindful as to the differences between the reality and the appearance of love… and then thoroughly enjoy them both (especially where they overlap)!  Now go do some shopping, and be happy!

So I seem to be behind in everything.  In RL, I’m behind in my chores. Behind in my work. In SL, I’m behind in my blogging. Behind in my landscaping, now that the snow has left the estate I primarily live on.  And yet, I feel like I’m always rushing, always busy, always late.  My head just isn’t where it’s supposed to be, which really isn’t like me at all.  It’s been this way ever since I got back from a little long weekend jaunt down to Florida to see my aging mom; I just can’t seem to get my head together.  Instead, I seem to be turning into a daydreamer, just dreaming my life away… I guess there are worse things to be, at least in the short-term.  But the month is gearing up now, so I’m giving myself a much needed kick in the you-know-what to get up and get going back to business!  As for all of you out there, happy shopping!

So I don’t know about you, but I just love having days where I never really get dressed and just hang around the house in my pjs. It may not be complete downtime… there’s always some cleaning and basic chores that need doing, and of course I’m always doing something for my blog, but just the act — or “non-act” as it were — of not even putting on “real” clothes can be utterly delicious.  It just feels decadent and pampering, even if I end up logging in remotely to my office and working for a full day, the fact that I’m doing it in pj’s just makes it more bearable and even somehow “bad”.  And who doesn’t like being bad now and then lol?  But even if just for an hour or two before or after bedtime, this is definitely a perfect outfit for lounging comfortably…

This is a really tough time of year when you’re alone.  And yes, I’m married RL and partnered with a great guy I’ve been with for almost 12 years now, but his time inworld is limited and definitely not for big things like New Year’s Eve (then again, I’m not really available for that either lol).  But it made me think about all those years when I was alone, and would go to parties stag with all those couples, smiling bravely through all the toasts and statements of love.  As I’ve gotten older, I’ve learned that even as a couple, life is rarely (if ever) the way you imagined it would be, and sometimes the forced gaiety of these mass celebrations can just be downright depressing.  These days I generally prefer a quiet night at home or, if pushed a bit, a small intimate party.  But whether you like to party big, party small, or go to bed and wait till the partying’s done, the year will still end and a new one will begin.  And THAT is something worth toasting!  Here’s to a Happy New Year and happy shopping both for the rest of this year and all of the next!

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season are the lights.  I just love walking the dog after dark, and seeing all the decorations lit up in the dark… even though they’re the same night after night, they still make smile, each and every time.  That’s why one of my favorite parts of this year’s SL Christmas Expo — which you hopefully know by now is the last mega-event of the year for Relay for Life and it’s fight against cancer (this event’s mission is specifically raising money to fight children’s cancer) — is the 2nd Annual Lights of Hope Decoration Contest, where they take those beautiful outdoor decorations that I enjoy so much here in the real world and do them up big time inworld.  I’ve included the poster below with some of the particulars, and to quote the formal description:

“Each of the builders has decorated the outside of one of their stunning houses in holiday style and brought it to the Expo.  Stroll the Holiday Road neighbourhood at the Expo and vote for your favourites by donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk in front of each home! 100% of all “votes” go directly to the American Cancer Society.  Be sure to pop over to the Real Estate Office in the neighbourhood where some of the builders have graciously placed out their entry home for sale in an American Cancer Society Christmas Expo vendor.  But wait there is more!  Linden Lab® Partners With The Expo to Help the American Cancer Society Fight Childhood Cancer!  Linden Lab® will be decorating Linden homes as part of the Lights Of Hope contest. That’s right,  teams of Lindens have been untangling lights, checking bulbs, inflating Santa’s and climbing to the rooftops to hang lights on their Linden homes.  Do we have a Clark Griswald amongst them?  Maybe a Martha Stewart?  It’s up to you to decide what team has the best-decorated home.”

One of the many many things I love about Second Life is how easy it is to continually change things up.  The seasons change where I live here — winter to spring/summer, and then I add fall as well — and with each seasonal shift, I find that I’m changing much of the landscaping.  Not just from a green version to a white one, but entire re-envisioning of parts of the landscape.  The same now holds true of my holiday decorating.  For years, I had a Holiday Box (literally), with everything that I used to decorate the house.  I’d of course add a few new things each year, tossing away high prim objects that were available with better technology and replacing them with newer versions.  But this year I’ve noticed a marked difference.  To begin with, it’s my first year in my new home.  And although we had moved quite frequently before, it was generally within the same estate system or two, so the look and feel of the property was always generally the same, because that was what we liked.  Where we live now is completely different from anything I’ve done on the grid before, and therefore a lot of the old ideas just don’t work. I haven’t even lugged the box out of inventory, although a few stand-alone favorites have definitely found their way into new places.  But mostly I’ve been picking up gorgeous items at events and, of course as a blogger, I’m fortunate enough to receive many wonderful items to “play” with.  The result is that I’m creating a whole new space, and wow, is it ever fun!  To try to find the perfect space for everything, and the perfect something for every space!  I’ll be sharing lots of little glimpses here… some may not even last the season, who knows? As I said in my last post, I’ve yielded to the fact that the holidays are upon us.  And I’m getting ready.  Not just in the commercial way by making lists and buying presents, but also by really working to support the SPIRIT of the holidays. I’m excited to be an official blogger for the SL Christmas Expo, for the second year in a row.  This year’s theme is the Magic of Christmas, and The Christmas Expo Mission is to fight childhood cancer.  If you follow me, then you probably know that I blog quite frequently for events supporting the fight against cancer, and I personally find cancer at its absolute worst when it strikes its smallest victims.  This event is really special, because it not only offers some of SL’s shopping at its best but it provides all of us with the opportunity to help give the gift of hope to those who really need it most at the time of year when belief in magic and good things can run strongest.

I know I’ll be blogging quite a bit about this very special event and all it has to offer, but there’s no way anyone could ever possibly cover it all with a few posts.  Here’s the official statement:  The 9th annual Second Life Christmas Expo will be held on December 5 – 15, 2019 and is a mega event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society. The expo will be supporting Childhood Cancer initiatives of The Society. All proceeds of the Expo will be directed to support research and palliative efforts to help children with cancer.

The 2019 Second Life Christmas Expo will consist of both holiday and non-holiday items from some of the best creators and designers in Second Life, spread across 8 sims!  The Expo will feature special events, including live performances, dance performances, djs, skating parties, a Snowman Building Contest, The Holiday Stockings, The Gift Of Hope Mega Raffles, a Christmas Tree & Wreath Lot, holiday raffles and gotchas, and so much more!   The Holiday Of Hope Ball, for the 9th year running, will be held at the Christmas Expo. We have our Winter Breedables Fair with several of SL’s top Breedable Creators donating One Of A Kind Breedables to be auctioned.  And back by popular demand is the Christmas Bazaar area.   This year’s theme is Believe In The Magic Of Christmas with beautifully designed regions, all making for a great holiday shopping event.

Peaceful Easy Feeling

I just love love LOVE this pair of outfits. They work so well together, but then they also work so well on their own.  It’s pretty rare I think in a paired set that the man’s outfit works as well as the woman’s does… sometimes it does tend to come off as more of a companion piece than an awesome outfit in its own right.  With Hans and Freya, they are equally fabulous as standalone looks, but when together?!? Look out!  Absolutely awesome!!!  The pattern itself is very unisex, all original textures, with a wonderful assortment of colors. My personal favorite is the green because it really enhances my eyes,  and the blue just makes my Durzle’s eyes really pop… sighs, just knocks me out… but if you look at the full body shots below, you can see that other colors look great too. But if the pattern/colors are unisex, the cut and style are definitely NOT.  Although my sweater is comfy and relaxed looking, the plunging neckline and little miniskirt are VERY feminine.  And Durzle’s pushed-up sleeves and tight-but-not-too-skinny jeans advertise all his masculine charms.  Definitely a love story… one that gives me that peaceful, easy feeling…

All Dolled Up

Well it’s been a rough month for me personally (a rough few months actually), so I’ll admit that I had some difficulty getting into the spirit of Halloween this year.  So even though today is THE day, I’m avoiding horror and opting for high fashion instead, going with a look that just made me go “ooooh” when I first saw it and “aaaah” when I tried it on. It’s definitely not my normal look; in fact, I even had to adjust my body to get the boa to fit properly, but wow I think it was worth it!  And what better place to strut my little dolled-up look than on the streets of Paris? So instead of Happy Halloween, I’ll just say “Ooh la la!” and leave it there! Either way, happy shopping!
