Summer may not have officially begun, but as far as I’m concerned, once Memorial Day has come and gone, it’s summer! And although the definition of summer has changed for me over the years, as my life has changed, one thing has always remained constant… summer means BARBECUES!  And at my house, we’re old-fashioned… no gas grills for us, we still use charcoal, and BBQ the way we did when I was a kid.  I love everything about a charcoal grill — the smell, the taste, the charring — mmmmm, I’m making myself hungry lol! But that’s why I was so thrilled when I saw this set from [Circa]… it’s not only charcoal, it even has flames.  And just in case things get out of hand, they’ve even thoughtfully included a fire extinguisher!  So let’s throw some steak and chicken and corn and whatnot on the barbie, and get this BBQ cookin’!  😉

I don’t know how patient a person you are, but patience is definitely NOT my long suit. I’ve worked on it for years, and I’ve definitely improved over time, but I’ll admit that I still like immediate gratification.  Sadly I’ve done a lot of waiting over the last few weeks… some of it really emotional and filled with worry and fear, some of it just long and boring, and some of it — like waiting for FlickR maintenance to be complete — just purely frustrating. But if it’s one thing I’ve learned is that you can’t avoid waiting, it’s just part of life.  Not only that, the payoff for waiting is often worth it… and in this last case, hopefully the ongoing and increasingly annoying problems with FlickR have been resolved. I guess we’ll all find out together.  I WILL say that my photostream is loading much quicker than before, but whether that’s temporary or permanent, well, time will tell. I just hope I didn’t jinx it by putting it in print lol!  😉

Lookin’ Good

We all have our little routines for checking our outfits before heading out, whether it be in real life or here in Second Life.  One of the things I love about SL (one of so very many lol) is that there’s no need for all that neck craning and awkward twisting to see yourself from all sides.  And let’s face it… it’s really critical in a world where parts of your body can pop right through your clothes as you move, which is why part of my pre-check is to dance and see what gives lol… no popped seams for this girl!!  Another benefit is that you get to appreciate the rear view when a designer does something special to enhance the back, like the stitching on the pockets of this dress.  But the idea is to approximate real life, so if I stand just so, I can see it in the mirror and yes, I think I’m lookin’ good from all sides! The verdict? Good to go!!!! Now the question is, where am I going?  😉

If you lived in NYC during a certain time frame, you may know (or at least have heard of) a dance and night club called the Limelight. It was a pretty unique venue for its time… a converted church, it made quite an impact even from the outside.  It was so popular, in fact, that it spawned other locations in the US, but the original has always been considered the most “significant and infamous.” For some reason, the combination of doing a city shot and wearing a skin called Lime brought all kinds of memories rushing back… not just of the Limelight itself, but of the neighborhood, where I lived for many years.  The Limelight was just a very New York place, and for those of us born and bred in Manhattan, it holds a special place in our hearts and minds… though I’ll be the first to say that this is definitely NOT the look I would have worn to the club and since I lived only a few blocks away, I would never have been hailing a cab either (not to mention that NYC sidewalks don’t look like this lol)! But those days are long ago and far away, so for now, all i have to say is TAXI!!!!  😉

People think blogging is easy. And maybe for some it is. For me, I wouldn’t say it’s easy (probably because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and get hung up in the details), but it’s definitely a labor of love.  I won’t go into all the details here… I’ve done it before, and if you blog you already know it; if you don’t, you probably don’t care lol.  But I’ve learned that beyond the skills of creating a look and a creative setting — catching a moment in time, if you will — are things like lighting, which can drive you mad! If you’re not a Game of Thrones fan, then you may not get the title of this post, but if you are, then you understand… completely!  I don’t know about you, but while I’m so excited that the next season of Game of Thrones will start soon — April 14th — I’m also kind of sad, because it’s the final season.  That’s the problem with a wonderful miniseries, or a wonderful book… at some point, they come to an end, and you are left to imagine what comes next.  The good news? I love Second Life, which is a good thing, because I certainly spend enough time both inworld and in RL working on things related to it.  But sometimes it seems that certain things are just repeated, done over and over.  And yet, when something different comes along, it’s not always immediately welcome.  These pants are a perfect example… Because it seems like almost every pair of pants I own here in Second Life is lo-cut — sometimes to the extreme! — my initial reaction when I saw these high-waisted pants was admittedly one of hesitation.  But thankfully, I decided to try them on, and all I have to say is boy, was I ever wrong!  WOW!!! If I may so myself, these pants make my curves — especially my butt (which is already enhanced with Tonic’s booty control) — look absolutely AMAZING!!!  And although I’m sure they look equally good with a full-length top, I simply love the combination of the high waist with a short cropped sweater like this wonderful little off-shoulder find… What a refreshing difference!!!!  And yes, there’s been lots of exclamation points in this post lol… but I think it deserves every single one!  And to celebrate, even though it’s getting colder outside again after a 2-day reprieve, it’s definitely time to tiptoe through the SL tulips and welcome those initial signs of spring!!! 😉

I love my curves. I’ll admit it took a long time to get them exactly where I want them, which I’ve achieved with my Tonic Curvy body and added Booty Control (still tweaking all the time when I wear my Slink body to try to achieve the same effect).
