So the weather has been seesawing here in the Northeast, from beautiful warm spring days to blustery cold ones reminiscent of winter and fall.  And although I’m admittedly an ice cream addict year-round, nothing speaks to me of summer quite as much as when the local dairy bars start taking down their shutters and getting ready for the season.  I happened to drive that way over the weekend, and although it will still be several weeks before they actually open, they were hard at work putting on a fresh coat of paint and doing some general sprucing up and spring cleaning.  It just sets my heart all aflutter lol, and totally made me think of this amazing backdrop/bloggerkit by Salacity.  When I saw this Slurpee prop and this hair at the Saturday Sale, I knew it was fate… mmmm, the taste of summer!!! 😉

Fresh as a Daisy

If you lived in NYC during a certain time frame, you may know (or at least have heard of) a dance and night club called the Limelight. It was a pretty unique venue for its time… a converted church, it made quite an impact even from the outside.  It was so popular, in fact, that it spawned other locations in the US, but the original has always been considered the most “significant and infamous.” For some reason, the combination of doing a city shot and wearing a skin called Lime brought all kinds of memories rushing back… not just of the Limelight itself, but of the neighborhood, where I lived for many years.  The Limelight was just a very New York place, and for those of us born and bred in Manhattan, it holds a special place in our hearts and minds… though I’ll be the first to say that this is definitely NOT the look I would have worn to the club and since I lived only a few blocks away, I would never have been hailing a cab either (not to mention that NYC sidewalks don’t look like this lol)! But those days are long ago and far away, so for now, all i have to say is TAXI!!!!  😉

Bicycle for Two

So I’m really sorry (and a bit ashamed) to admit that I seem to have gotten lazy when it comes to some parts of my blogging. I don’t have automatic backups (too costly), and after my one problem a long long time ago, I just drifted away from always putting a copy of my blog post text into a Word document. And today, I’m paying the price for that, because my blog post from the 18th — where I introduced Crichton — is gone.  Just gone. Error message 404!  So I had to stop everything in the midst of doing THIS post, and go back to try to recreate it as best I could — at least the credits, I didn’t even try to redo the introduction because I have no idea what was on my mind lol —  because it’s simply not fair to my sponsors that the post advertising their products has just gone poof.   Now that it’s all done and posted, Crichton and I are going to enjoy the rest of this beautiful day, and relax and forget about my oversight and the additional work it caused!  And yes, it’s a good lesson learned, but wow, is it ever frustrating! 😉

I’ve been so happy, busily landscaping and setting up decor for both my new primary home and my island hideaway escape. My hideaway escape has undergone radical change since I first opened it. First off, I’m no longer alone… I’m now part of a collective or compound of sorts; incredible fun! Secondly, I knew that a 512 lot would never suffice… not only did I add another 512 for myself, but Crichton took an adjoining 1024, so I’ve had plenty to play with.  A prime position facing one of my nearest neighbors (NOT part of the collective lol!) is held by this awesome beach scene… I loved it so much I had it for blogging when the island was still just a growing thought… And now it’s all done and I get to lay in the sand, watch the horizon, and wonder why it’s all so blue… how absolutely delicious! 😉

Lounging Outside

Falling a bit behind in my blogging duties because, surprise! I’m moving again in SL. Although I absolutely loved my last place, my little hideaway reignited my love of all things nautical, and I was fortunate enough to locate the most perfect piece of property in a quiet corner of a beautifully landscaped (and highly ruled, so the theme is strictly kept) estate with easy access to the Blake Sea. So between packing up and moving, landscaping, and of course the holidays in Real Life (oh yeah, real life), it’s been a bit hectic. But oh my, when I saw this outfit, it blew everything else away…

  • Outfit:  !!smesh – Disco Outfit. A Fantasy Life… Redux

THIS IS A SEMI-RECREATION OF A LOST POST.  Sadly, I have no record of what I said, though I’m sure it was terribly witty, incredibly deep, and the best post ever written in the history of SL fashion blogging. That said, I’m not even going to attempt to recreate what I wrote, because I have no idea of what I was thinking at the time, though based on the title and the shot, I’m sure it had to do with how Crichton is a fantasy in many, many ways. Be that as it may, we’ll just chalk it up to the vagaries of the internet and my unwillingness to pay for backups, and recreate what’s really important… the credits.

  • Skin:  7 Deadly s[K]ins – Judas in Caramel with Hairbase & one of my favorite beard styles; I just love the bit of the “bad boy” look that the cut in the eyebrow gives & the light moles.  Don’t get me wrong… I like a nice guy, but I don’t necessarily want him to look like one.  Also worn: Male Body Applier – Slink Hand/Feet & Body Caramel Hairy, which is one of three body types available (Smooth, Trail, & Hairy).

People think blogging is easy. And maybe for some it is. For me, I wouldn’t say it’s easy (probably because I’m a bit of a perfectionist and get hung up in the details), but it’s definitely a labor of love.  I won’t go into all the details here… I’ve done it before, and if you blog you already know it; if you don’t, you probably don’t care lol.  But I’ve learned that beyond the skills of creating a look and a creative setting — catching a moment in time, if you will — are things like lighting, which can drive you mad! You want shadows & a beautiful windlight, but you also want to be sure that what you’re blogging can be seen in the actual colors it comes in.  I had created my own little light source that definitely helps, but this set is a MAJOR step up. Ok, I’ll admit it. I’ve never quite understood the general love affair with vintage.  But while I’ve happily left my brief fling with retro behind, I have to say that I seem to have been “bitten by the bug” and have fallen somewhat in love with vintage. There’s just something I can’t quite put my finger on that captivates me… it almost adds a sense of maturity, of classic style, and yet seems to be winking at the same time.  To me, the looks that incorporate a touch of vintage have a sense of freshness rather than “the same old, same old”, which is actually rather opposite of what I would have expected. How long will this love affair last? Well, you never really know, but I expect it will be one of those on-and-off romances, because if it’s one thing I’m certain about, I definitely never want my look or style to go stale. There’s no fun in that, for you OR for me lol! 😉

Well, if my last post was a little bit retro, now I’ve fallen all the way down the retro rabbit hole!  And in “those” days, being a girl meant going pink, and since I rarely do anything halfway, I went for it full force!!!  Pink EVERYWHERE!!!!  But sadly, this girl’s no Betty Homemaker… I may be in the kitchen, but my donuts aren’t homemade, they’re store-bought, and just delish.
