Sooo tired. Still living in a pile of boxes, living without living room furniture except for ONE semi-recliner that we are all sharing (our son is here for a while since his home is in lockdown mode, and then we had an additional guest for 2 days over Thanksgiving, Still dealing with house issues, though the biggest one has been solved (it seems silly, but we only had one garage door opener that worked; no one knew the code to open the door, and resetting didn’t work. Turned out the unit on the door was broken. Now at least there are no more calls about being locked out or wanting to leave and not being able to close the door lol.) Still adjusting to life in the South. BUT we are at least starting to slowly enter in that life, participating a bit in all that is offered here. So many activities to choose from, and so many that are hold during COVID. Between not having a desk, having company, and having so much to run around and try to take care of, being inworld has been exceptionally difficult. My blogging has suffered a lot, and I feel guilty about not being to meet my commitments. I’ve been sitting here for what seems like forever unable to even name this pic lol. In response, I’ve been forced to leave some of my sponsors, and will probably need to leave a few more. It’s hard to do… I blog for designers/events because I like their work, and as someone who spent her work life in the world of marketing/advertising, I believe that my small efforts can indeed have an impact (albeit a small one) on brand recognition, store traffic, and sales. So I’ve now been in Florida for two weeks, and I have to say that I’ve been cold most of that time. Yes, I know it’s still much MUCH warmer than it’s been back in NY, and I used to get aggravated when family in Florida would moan about the chill when it was still 40 degrees warmer than I was experiencing, but still… I’ve only been to the pool once, and I wear long pants a lot. But although I haven’t left home yet (waiting for yet another delivery lol), it looks like a killer day, with plenty of bright sunshine. Casual & Contemporary… plus Cats!

When you move to a new house and don’t bring any furniture, all you do is shop, shop, shop. Not being a professional decorator, it can be daunting when you need EVERYTHING for EVERY room. So far, the two bedrooms are done, and we snagged two good tables with chairs, one for the lanai (yes, we have a lanai lol!) and one for the kitchen, plus an entertainment center. That still leaves a lot. I AM finding that my work here with H&G (home and garden, for those who may not know the acronym) has been inordinately helpful, both with style and even more importantly with room layout. If only it were as simple IRL to move and resize and retexture things lol! Oh well, at least my home is done in SL… happy shopping!

Taking A Moment

I realize how extremely fortunate I am to have such good things happening in my life at a time when so many people are suffering, and I also know that it’s something that I worked very hard for a very, very, very long time. I also know that an awful lot of people have been forced into much less-positive moves, against their will. But I do have to also say that this is EXHAUSTING. No matter how many things I cross off the list, even more are being added. We did have a few pieces of furniture delivered today, so now at least we have chairs to sit on. But the POD arrived as well, and we have just a couple of days to unload it all and then start the process of figuring out every item’s new home. And then, and then, and then, and then, and then… grabbing even a short bit of time for myself to just “be” is priceless… hmmm, maybe this is actually a self-portrait (though NEVER in shoes like these)?!? Cocoa Anyone?

And life is starting to slowly settle in. It still feels somewhat like a vacation… most meals are being eaten out since our POD with our cookware, spices, etc. doesn’t arrive until tomorrow; we’re doing a lot of “touristy” stuff, wandering around exploring and oohing and ahhhing over little gems we find. We discovered that we were unable to participate in any activities until we had resident ID cards, so we handled that and have hit the pool. Once the golf clubs arrive tomorrow, we can start doing a bit more than just shop and eat, and then maybe it will start feeling more like home! Since we’re still without any furniture outside of a bed and a dresser, I’m finding it extremely difficult to blog. Between that and all the activities I plan on starting to participate in, I’ve realized that I need to cut back on my blogging, so I’ve reluctantly started resigning some of my sponsors, since nothing is worse than not meeting your requirements or doing your best for each and every post. Will I regret it? Time will tell. But one thing I can say for sure… I don’t miss the cold AT ALL. Though the thought of some nice warm cocoa is still very very appetizing lol, especially when it gets a bit nippy (by Florida standards anyway) at night… Happy shopping!

Feeling Toasty

Here I am, blogging for the first time from my new home in Florida, featuring fall items in my post lol. I’ve been alone in an empty place, with furniture in one bedroom and nowhere else. The house echoes, and with ETA sweeping right through here last night, we found out that the glass sliders in back leak, and leak badly. The joys of a new home! Without tables or anything else, it’s proving rather difficult to blog, but I’ve juryrigged a system that allows me to be on for short bursts of time without destroying my back or my hands. A desk and chair is definitely on the list! And although blogging all these delicious fall items makes me yearn slightly for the beauty of fall, it was already turning quite chill when I left NY last week, and that I will definitely NOT miss. I’ll be happy to enjoy the beauty of fall and then winter from my sunny climes (assuming the sun ever comes out, that is).., but even without the sun, it’s nice and warm and toasty! Good to be back!
