And the Fairelands are open! That’s right, Fantasy Faire 2020 has begun, open from April 23rd – May 10th! As an official blogger (!!!!) I had a day’s early access, and I spent hours just wandering and exploring. It’s absolutely amazing, the amount and the quality of the creativity that has been poured lovingly into the 18 regions (13 shopping regions plus 5 Faireland realms that take us beyond commerce, from a Memorial Garden to the Fairelands Quest, the Literary Festival, Performance Stages, from Art Galleries to the Worldling Collection). And yes, it’s all to celebrate the world of fantasy, but there’s a very serious purpose behind this gathering, and that’s Building A World Without Cancer. These very talented designers have all created & donated items whose purchase will go towards the fight against cancer. It truly is shopping with a purpose!

So whether you’re a confirmed fantasy enthusiast, into role-playing, or just enjoy exploring and seeing the depth and breadth of imagination that exists in this virtual world we share, come visit Fantasy Faire 2020. The Faire has reawakened the slumbering fae within me, and I have been very busy bringing her up-to-date and creating a new look (she’s been asleep for years, before the dawn of mesh); you’ll be seeing and hearing from her in the days and weeks to come, and she i considering joining my blog as an ongoing contributor. Secret Fantasy Hideaway. This hideaway isn’t just for fantasy avis, it’s also perfect for human fantasies. With sparkling waters in a hidden pool surrounded by dark, arching trees & rocks, the hanging lanterns, sparkling firefly lights & butterflies create the most beautiful little nook for dreams of all sorts. Includes the boat (PG ), which has both solo & couple animations. It’s on display at the booth, so you can see for yourself how absolutely stunning this creation is!
Secret Fantasy Hideaway Lantern Tree. The perfect finishing touch to your hideaway, the tree (which you can see both to the right & to the left of the hideaway itself) includes has 3 lanterns of its own plus the most adorable grazing bunny. Angel of the Morning

I’m not particularly into angels. Yes I love wings, but even in my fae days (yes, once upon a time many years ago, I played as an elvish-fae hybrid) when I wore wings every day, I never wore angel wings. In fact, when given a choice between being an angel or a devil, I’d have to say I just about always go for the dark side. But not this time. Somehow this angel outfit just didn’t hit me as all that angelic, if you get my drift… in fact, it almost seems a bit devilish in that it just exudes temptation. I found it to be rather inspiring, so much so that rather than just do it the easy way and shoot myself flying or hovering against a cloudy background, I decided to make it much harder, and build a small cloud “set”. It reminded me of a lesson I’d forgotten of late… I have so much more fun when I do it the hard way, going a bit overboard and doing much more than is necessary in order to approximate the image that’s in my brain… Well, time to hang up my wings and leave my seat in the clouds… Happy shopping! (and to quote a show from a long, long time ago, “Be safe out there!”)

Attack of the Man (or Woman) Eating Spiders

With one week to go, we’re getting into the final stretch for Halloween. I’m just really starting to look around at what’s available, and I have to say, there’s just so much quantity out there in every genre, it can be downright daunting to find the quality items. I have to say that one of my favorite items this year — in fact I believe it will rank among my personal favorites for a long, long time, gracing whatever land I own — is ATTACK OF THE MAN EATING SPIDERS from Tylar’s Treasures. It’s just such a uniquely creepy item, it’s really cool! The scene features a bare tree covered in a spiderweb. The ground beneath the tree is covered in skulls and two whole skeletons. But what really makes this item come alive is that it has 3 animated spiders — one of the giant ones wanders around the scene (yes, you can set his range!); another giant is attacking a skeleton in the foreground; and a smaller cousin is moving up and down on a web from the tree. This can be seriously creepy stuff, especially if you get tangled up with the big animated spider… which happened to me the moment I tp’d to the event using the LM below (consider yourself forewarned lol). Want even more creepiness? The giant animated spider is copy, so you can have as many giant spiders running around as you can handle before calling for the exterminator!

Once Upon A Time

Once upon a time, many vibrant subcultures lived in a wonderful virtual world called Second Life. Fairy folk and elves had land stretching across many sims, filled with art, song and creativity. After dressing as fae and elf one Halloween and finding pure joy, Ceja and her partner decided to leave the human world behind. They created fantasy alts, and together as fae and elven prince they built a home in a marvelous treehouse near an open sea. Their home was a joyous one, full of color and fantastical flora and fauna. But the time came when the elves and their kin departed SL for other words and the elven prince often had to travel to faraway lands on business. What had been a rich and varied life became one of loneliness. The two decided to return to living as human, and found that after such a long absence, it was once again fresh and exciting. Soon their fantasy lives faded into memory. Life went on. Then suddenly, a dragon appeared. His beating wings and breaths of fire rekindled those lost dreams and fantasies, and Ceja couldn’t resist building a glen for the dragon, full of the colors and richness that her elven home once held. The road ahead is unclear… but for right now, it’s simply wondrous to have a touch of fantasy brought back, even if just for a little while…

THE SCENE

Just about everything you see is from TYLAR’S TREASURES, including:

Animated Dragon with Fire. Dragon hovers over the perch (in itself a fantastic item), flaps wings & breathes fire every 4 seconds (just touch to start the animations). Only a video could do this justice! The detailing is simply awesome… just look at the “ribs” in the wings! Available in 7 colors: Blue, Gold, Purple, Magenta, Green, Red & Teal. Fantasy Stream Decor. Features a lovely stream with animated water, & fantasy plantings along each side. There’s a rock dam at each end with a fantasy arched tree, together with some butterfly flowers.
Fantasy Grass Hill. The perfect “foundation” for a fantasy build! It’s a very low mound on which to place some of your fantasy scenes to transition from green grass to fantasy building. Not only is it copy, so you can add as many as you need, it has a 4-color texture change menu — blue, pink, purple, white — to liven up your landscaping. A must-have for the fantasy landscaper!
