Valentine’s Day is one of those days I always have mixed feelings about. It’s wonderful when you’re in the throes of early romantic love (but then what isn’t, lol?); excruciating when your heart is broken or your soul is aching. The rest of the time — which is most of life — it can be alternately charming or annoying. As with most things here in Second Life, Valentine’s gets done to extremes… and that means there are some awesome finds out there… especially if you’re cool with hearts and flowers! Reflecting on Choices

What was it I was just talking about in my last blog about things falling together so easily? Hah! Well, sometimes they don’t. Or let me correct myself… sometimes I just get in my own way.  In doing some of my normal running around once I had my look completed, I stumbled upon a location and put together what I thought was a wonderful shot.  And then I realized how many days I had left before I go away for a bit, where I THINK I’ll be able to blog but can’t really be sure about the connection.  Bottom line:  I had to rethink my shots and try to “double up”.  So that fashion shot went into the storage bin as a possible idea for future use (only one of those has ever actually worked out lol) as did another using the beaded lamp that was in the preliminary stages so that I could combine the two into this one.  I’m actually really happy with the result… would I have been happier the other way? We’ll just never know lol!! But that’s the whole thing with choices, big and small… you make the best ones that you can based on the information you have, you live with them, and you move on. I just recently turned down a new sponsorship for an event, because they would have assigned me items to blog. (As of now, I choose which items to blog for all my sponsors.) Was it the right choice? Was I being “too diva”? It felt right at the time; it still does. Will it tomorrow? You just never know… Every day is a new moment, new choice.  😉

Sometimes I just don’t know when to stop, and to say “no, I think I’m doing enough right now.” First off, I’m looking for a part-time job in Real Life.  That’s a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety, a lot of self-doubt.  Second, I’m now the Blogger Manager for Allure Couture, something I’m ultra thrilled about! Not only is it a fabulous line of formal and casual wear which I blog and wear all the time (the latter being the TRUE test), but the designer is my absolute best friend and I love her dearly!  (Our first blogger search for male and female bloggers is still open, so if you’re interested, the link to the app is in my FlickR stream!)  Third, for some strange reason, I applied to blog for a few new lines (why, why, why???) that for various reasons piqued my interest and that I felt I could handle with my schedule; so far, I’ve been accepted by one, rejected by another, and haven’t heard from the third. And fourth, and this is the one that is currently killing me, I decided to move. Those who’ve followed my blog for a while may remember that I moved to my recent lot less than a year ago, and while I loved it then, all the built-in levels kind of pissed me off when I winterized. Now that it’s time to de-winterize, I found myself a bit dismayed by the prospect. With tier due in 3 days, I decided to see what else was available in the estate group (I LOVE GlenXi Estates, which is where I currently live) and found the PERFECT lot… a teeny bit larger, about 100 more prims, for a smidgin more tier with more useable land and less levels… DONE!  So now I need to LANDSCAPE (which yes, is a passion of mine in SL). But did I stop? Of course not!!! I went one step further, and decided I needed a new house too, which means REDECORATING! And although I’m just starting, here is my first pic from my new property, with some pretty new things, like this awesome hanging chair and stool!  😉

It’s already a whirlwind holiday season in Second Life, with even more events than usual and tons of wonderful must-have items both to buy and to blog, some supporting American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (which I always indicate in the blog copy).  It’s exhausting, exciting, and sometimes tempting to take the easy route and go with “good enough”, but anyone who knows me, knows that I ALWAYS do things the hard way lol! Which doesn’t mean I’m not willing to take a moment now and then, and just stop, breathe and collect my thoughts. Now let’s think… who’s been naughty and who’s been nice? Need to keep those lists straight… 😉

Home for the Holidays

I’ve been so inspired by what some other bloggers are doing in terms of setting up entire room scenes that I decided to give it a try. Of course, since I’m primarily a fashion blogger, I still had to put myself in the middle of it all lol! I was lucky enough to have found the sim Northern Lights, which is open to all — including rezzing! — even the houses (at least for now, since the sim is ALMOST complete but not quite).  I was able to find a house that completely fit my purposes — the room was the right size, the right angle, and I was able to easily derender the existing fireplace in order to replace it with my own so that nothing in the set was there beforehand other than the walls and windows, which clearly showed a beautiful snowy landscape outside.  Creating this scene was fun to do, it was extremely challenging, and I’ll admit that it’s definitely no accident that I’m having a martini!!!  But all for a good cause, because ALL the room decor that I used is from the SL Christmas Expo 2018, which runs through Dec 9th — all of it with items donated by designers with 100% of the proceeds going to Relay for Life! — and is therefore part of the fight against cancer!

There’s so much going on here, let’s first talk about ME and what I’m wearing (here’s a close-up because I’m a little lost in that room!!!):

I have to say this was one of my favorite blogging shoots since I began blogging last year. I experimented for a while on my home studio platform, making the set. The awesome pose set includes the window/wall but on most shots, I found it left me wanting more… so I put two together to create more of a room, then decorated it for the holidays. In my head, I visualized snow falling outside, and so the search began for a wintry sim with falling snow that would allow me to rez… surprisingly difficult to find. Beautiful snowy sims, yes; rezzing allowed, yes; both together, no. Until I found Footprints in the Snow, which for a nominal group fee, allowed me to rez in the beautiful wintry scene with the falling snow. Set-up was easy since I’d already done it, I start shooting and OH NO! For some reason I never realized that if it was snowing OUTSIDE the window, it was also snowing inside my little room set! I was determined to make it work anyway, and interesting enough there are windlights that don’t pick it up that much (and others that really do, which is good to know for when I really want all that falling snow effect all around!).  I was able to easily edit out most of those flakes that did make it through, though you might wonder where some of those shadows are coming from lol… now you know! Personally, I think the final result is well worth all the work… maybe we’ll get lucky and have a snow day… hmmm, wonder how we’ll occupy our time?  😉
