I Enjoy Being A Girl

I have to say, girls have it so much better than the guys when it comes to shopping for clothes in Second Life. (As someone who has a male alt for blogging and is also highly involved in the shopping for my partner and HIS alt, I’ve experienced it first hand.) First off, there just isn’t as much to choose from. Although I feel this is also the case in RL, it’s much more pronounced on the grid. Then what there is tends to be produced for fewer bodies at a time. And fatpacks are so very much more expensive for the most part. That’s why I’m happy to be “strictly a female female”… shopping is just so much fun as a girl… there’s so much to choose from, from so many brand new and well-established clothing designers. Hunting High & Low at The Beached Bunny Hunt

Well, it may be the 4th of July, but it’s certainly not going to be an ideal holiday in terms of weather, at least where I live. The first hurricane since I moved to Florida (now downgraded to tropical storm?) is supposedly bearing down on us, so all it does is rain, rain, and rain some more with small teasing breaks here and there, but here on the grid the sun is shining. Even better. it’s once again time for the Beached Bunny Hunt from Evil Bunny Productions! I love being a fae. I see all the issues my human counterpart is dealing with, the stress and frustration and worry involved in moving her elderly mother into memory care, dealing with the deterioration of a personality and the growth of an aggressive alternate that comes into full power in the afternoons, like an evil queen menacing her subjects. Me, I’m so totally removed from it all, living my life of beauty and fantasy. I try to share some of the magic and wonder, sprinkling a little fairy dust in the hopes of easing her path; the birds and the other messengers that nature sends to whisper about the goings in in that human realm tell me that so far today seems to be a bit better, but I sense her constantly waiting for the phone to ring, summoning her to try to help someone who has in essence become a stranger. It’s so sad… I share her sense of helplessness, because these things are beyond my power, and all I can do is bide my time and tempt her with the chance to escape into this world of color and beauty for even just a little while. I shall work harder to pass on the blessings of the fairies, because there’s no star too far, and no dream too grand, because fairy dust is like love… it creates magic whenever you give it away!

Well, it might not be Hawaii, but here in Florida where I now live, everything is a bit beachy year round. But you know it’s REALLY summer when the beachwear and beach decor start showing up everywhere on the grid! IMHO, one of the premier places to see what’s new this season is at the Under the Sea event. An Alluring Moment

Summer is here! It seems that I’m about to find out the truth behind all the warnings that summers here are brutal. From what I’m told, some people have a very hard time handling it; others just seem to take it in stride and enjoy it with a slight shifting of activities. We shall see which category I fall into! Here on the grid, I’m starting to switch my plantings and other landscaping over from spring to full summer, and I’ve chosen a new summer skin (gotta have that tanned look!)… Some stunning new summer fashions out there, already rocking all the events… Happy shopping and happy start to summer! The Viking Way

Vikings… who knew they were so popular a culture here in Second Life? Maybe it’s something new, but in all my years fluttering around the grid, I’d never once stumbled onto it. Suddenly I’m seeing outfits, poses, complete avatars, decor & more. So I dressed the part and went exploring the Viking side of life… the list that came up in search was huge (although admittedly quite a bit of it was from the sexual underbelly of SL, but then that’s true of so many search terms). Instead I opted to visit the role-playing & themed communities, properly armed in case winged fantasy folk were unwelcome. As a side note, unless you’ve been here many many years, you may not have run across the “Humans Only” signs at music venues and clubs or been subjected to the taunts, or being shunned from some RPG communities for not exactly fitting their mold; before even my time began, furries — who used to be much more plentiful — were “hunted”. Although creativity still abounds (the recent Fantasy Faire is a prime example!), the world here and its residents used to be much more varied and interwoven… now it’s a much more segregated existence, with many of those who prefer what I’ll term “alt lifestyles” restricting those identities to the RPG areas. It’s kind of sad, really… the diversity added so much IMHO. Although pointed ears have become “a thing” of late, I do draw some strange reactions when mixing with large numbers of humans at stores or events or playing cards. Thankfully, I can’t hear the whispers! But back to the Vikings!!! In my short travels (and they were quite short), I only ran into one Viking… and he was quite polite, asking if I needed assistance when I was just standing there in various armed stances doing a photo shoot. But based on what I saw, it does seem to be a growing community with lots of options… definitely more to explore!!! And in your own explorations, may you be inspired with lightheartedness and laughter, and leave a little sparkle wherever you go!

Portrait of a Fae

I like this new age. In my former existence, years ago before mesh and BOM hit this world, I had “a look”. Yes, I changed my hair and clothes and wings almost every day, but my skin and ears were always the same (and my horns hadn’t grown in yet). At the time, I thought my look was rather exotic and fae-like; I look back on those pictures and I have to admit it, I cringe. Yes, part of it is just normal evolution, but there was just so little available back then in terms of fantasy look (I remember searching and searching and searching for a skin that had some kind of fantasy makeup lol). Now that I’ve been reborn into this more modern age, I love how easily I can totally reinvent myself, to create whole new looks, new personalities, as the mood or inspiration strikes me. Yes, my shape is pretty constant, but other than that, I’m changing everything all the time… in fact, I’m not 100% sure I’d always be recognized without that little name tag floating above my head! And I’m loving each look, each character, so very much that I often don’t want to change for several days… I want to “live in that skin” so to speak, until my blogging commitments force me to move on… and then I fall in love with the next one! Sighs, maybe that makes me a fickle fae, but if so, I’m a happy one! If it’s one thing I’ve learned… “in the midst of our lives, we must find the magic that makes our souls soar.” I’m finding mine… may you find yours!

The Look of the Day

How do humans stand it? Looking virtually the same, day after day. Yes, they can change the color and style of their hair, vary the color of their eyes, even change their head or shape, but they still basically look the same (and yes, I’m consciously avoiding saying that all humans look the same, because my human counterpart would take umbrage and might stop allowing me to use her blog space). Here on the fantasy side of the spectrum, we have the freedom to do so much more, to revel in our individuality, and to totally change it to fit our mood, to truly have a “look of the day.” If we didn’t all wear name tags on the grid, I wonder if some of my looks would even be recognizable as me, even to my partner! And nowhere is there more to explore in the world of fantasy appearance than at Fantasy Faire 2021, the annual event that is open through May 9th. And if you don’t already know, Fantasy Faire is a Relay for Life event, which means hundreds of items have been donated to the cause, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. A Dream Is A Wish Your Heart Makes

In yesterday’s post of the fabulous winter gazebo, snowy bridge & scenery (see it HERE), I allowed a glimpse of a beauty of a gown, with a promise to show more today. I’m happily fulfilling my promise! This is a stunning gown with angular cut-outs all round the middle, boasting a satiny sheen with beautiful delicate shading that really stands out depending on the light. With optional flexi decor in front and back, together with a “ribbon” on the sides, the dress has a dreamy romantic movement to it that unfortunately is difficult to capture in a still. Hello 2021

I’ve been finding it very hard to blog for the last few days. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by all that’s going on here in my country, threatening the very fabric upon which it’s based, blogging SL fashion has just seemed so unimportant. But I woke up to the realization that it’s not just the big things that matter, but also all the little things that we enjoy, the small freedoms, the minor pleasures. Collectively, they do add up to a big thing, and sometimes just one of those little things can momentarily be powerful enough to offer that small escape, that flash of a positive emotion… not sufficient to turn your whole world around, but to at least bring a ray of sunshine bursting through the clouds, to offer that momentary respite from all the heaviness and doom and gloom. So I’ve returned to my second home and to my Second Life, and though it’s definitely quite a bit harder to escape, and forget, and concentrate, I’m back to give my blogging and my sponsors the attention they deserve. After all, it’s a new year. I’ve said goodbye to some old sponsors; I’ve moved one or two around from the human me to my fantasy other; and I’m welcoming some new ones too. Here’s to blogging in 2021! (and, of course, happy shopping!)
