I grew up in New York City, and spent most of my adult working life in Manhattan.  Riding the subway was an integral part of that existence, which meant trying to stay looking put together for the office while hanging on through the crowds… Here I’m certainly not contending with all those people — the thought of having a car all to myself like this would actually be terrifying lol — but the feel of trying to keep your balance in heels and not miss your stop is real enough… even if the space and cleanliness is not! I’m coming up on my 12th rez day in Second Life, and although I find plenty of things that I love, it’s somewhat rare that I find something truly different and unique. This incredible dress is one such item. The dress is called Slither because the texture is animated and the dress appears to actually move… it’s totally mesmerizing (see the video inset below)… I actually found it difficult to get dressed because I kept finding myself just watching it lol! It’s curious that I absolutely cannot abide snakes in real life — I actually stop breathing if I’m in proximity to one — and yet here I am, wearing a dress that slithers and another snake curling around my neck!  Will wonders never cease? Hmmm, maybe I’m actually spellbound by this texture!?! Either way, I’m going to enjoy the magic of the night!  😉

Valentine’s Day is one of those days I always have mixed feelings about. It’s wonderful when you’re in the throes of early romantic love (but then what isn’t, lol?); excruciating when your heart is broken or your soul is aching. The rest of the time — which is most of life — it can be alternately charming or annoying. Reflecting on Choices

What was it I was just talking about in my last blog about things falling together so easily? Hah! Well, sometimes they don’t. Or let me correct myself… sometimes I just get in my own way.  In doing some of my normal running around once I had my look completed, I stumbled upon a location and put together what I thought was a wonderful shot.  And then I realized how many days I had left before I go away for a bit, where I THINK I’ll be able to blog but can’t really be sure about the connection.  Bottom line:  I had to rethink my shots and try to “double up”.  So that fashion shot went into the storage bin as a possible idea for future use (only one of those has ever actually worked out lol) as did another using the beaded lamp that was in the preliminary stages so that I could combine the two into this one.  I’m actually really happy with the result… would I have been happier the other way? We’ll just never know lol!! But that’s the whole thing with choices, big and small… you make the best ones that you can based on the information you have, you live with them, and you move on. I just recently turned down a new sponsorship for an event, because they would have assigned me items to blog. (As of now, I choose which items to blog for all my sponsors.) Was it the right choice? Was I being “too diva”? It felt right at the time; it still does. Will it tomorrow? You just never know… Every day is a new moment, new choice.  😉

So I’m one of those bloggers who tries very hard not to just take a “fashion model” shot against a pretty background.  Sometimes those are admittedly phenomenal shots, but they’re just not the style that I’ve been working to develop.  On the other hand, I find that gowns are extremely difficult to capture in a natural type setting since many of the venues where you’d expect to find gorgeous gowns are just drowning in lag and therefore impossible for high resolution photo shoots.  So for this fashion shoot at least I decided to do what Vogue would do… shoot in an exotic locale that manages to capture the essence of the gown, which in this case is a bit more untamed and risque both for this designer and for this model! If only I could REALLY do this on location!!!! 😉

Blogging is a strange thing. Some pictures can take hours and hours or even days, between putting together the look, the scene, the editing, the writing.  Nothing feels right, it’s all somehow out of sync. Others just seem to naturally fall into place with an image blossoming in your head almost like a piece of music. And just like that, it’s February.  So far, it’s a month of a still-freezing polar vortex, Valentine’s Day, and a special acknowledgment for me when logging in today, in that I learned that I’m a Blogger of the Month for 7 Deadly s[K]ins!!! The Flowers that Bloom in the Spring

OK, I’ll admit it right here… I’m no spring chicken. After all, I’ve been here in Second Life for almost 12 years (geez, that makes me certifiably ancient, doesn’t it!), but still, there are times that I just feel incredibly young and playful. Unlike in real life, where my body may not be able to run and frolic as easily (or look as good doing it lol), here I can do whatever I want, for as long as I want, never ever get hurt, and look simply wonderful the entire time! Sometimes I just don’t know when to stop, and to say “no, I think I’m doing enough right now.” First off, I’m looking for a part-time job in Real Life.  That’s a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety, a lot of self-doubt.  Second, I’m now the Blogger Manager for Allure Couture, something I’m ultra thrilled about! Not only is it a fabulous line of formal and casual wear which I blog and wear all the time (the latter being the TRUE test), but the designer is my absolute best friend and I love her dearly!  (Our first blogger search for male and female bloggers is still open, so if you’re interested, the link to the app is in my FlickR stream!)  Third, for some strange reason, I applied to blog for a few new lines (why, why, why???) that for various reasons piqued my interest and that I felt I could handle with my schedule; so far, I’ve been accepted by one, rejected by another, and haven’t heard from the third. And fourth, and this is the one that is currently killing me, I decided to move. Those who’ve followed my blog for a while may remember that I moved to my recent lot less than a year ago, and while I loved it then, all the built-in levels kind of pissed me off when I winterized. Now that it’s time to de-winterize, I found myself a bit dismayed by the prospect. With tier due in 3 days, I decided to see what else was available in the estate group (I LOVE GlenXi Estates, which is where I currently live) and found the PERFECT lot… a teeny bit larger, about 100 more prims, for a smidgin more tier with more useable land and less levels… DONE!  So now I need to LANDSCAPE (which yes, is a passion of mine in SL). But did I stop? Of course not!!! I went one step further, and decided I needed a new house too, which means REDECORATING! And although I’m just starting, here is my first pic from my new property, with some pretty new things, like this awesome hanging chair and stool!  😉
