So when I first started as a blogger, my very first sponsor was Tonic, the maker of my favorite mesh body.  As I say repeatedly in my blogs whenever I wear my Tonic Curvy body (though I should mention that they do also make a Tonic Fine body, it’s just not ME, I’m definitely a curvy gal), in my opinion it has the most natural curves anywhere. I love it!  Then a while back, Tonic also started making bento heads, with every new head bringing a totally different look and new modifications.  Now I’m previewing Tempest, the newest bento head from Tonic, and all I can say is YAY, she is awesome, totally rivaling the major brands out there.  I’ll admit that in the past, I’ve tweaked quite a bit to get a look that I felt was me; this time, I’m using Tempest straight out of the box and feeling really REALLY good about it.  I’m sure I’ll do some minor tweaks over time, because that’s just what I do… I always like to put my own little stamp on every look, but the truth of the matter is that this head really doesn’t need it, especially since it already comes with several shape options, as described below.  Here are the details of “the look”:

  • Head, Eyes, Skin, Shape, Makeup: Tonic – Tempest, a preview of the newest bento head from Tonic, which will debut as an EXCLUSIVE at the Skin Fair on March 13th. So I seem to be behind in everything.  In RL, I’m behind in my chores. Behind in my work. In SL, I’m behind in my blogging. Behind in my landscaping, now that the snow has left the estate I primarily live on.  And yet, I feel like I’m always rushing, always busy, always late.  My head just isn’t where it’s supposed to be, which really isn’t like me at all.  It’s been this way ever since I got back from a little long weekend jaunt down to Florida to see my aging mom; I just can’t seem to get my head together.  Instead, I seem to be turning into a daydreamer, just dreaming my life away… I guess there are worse things to be, at least in the short-term.  But the month is gearing up now, so I’m giving myself a much needed kick in the you-know-what to get up and get going back to business!  As for all of you out there, happy shopping!

Listening to A Summer Song

I really can’t believe how quickly that nip in the air appeared.  In the space of just a few days I went from wearing shorts and tank tops to jeans, 3/4 sleeves, and even a jacket at certain times of day. The trees have felt it, too, and are just starting to turn.  And although their autumnal color is very beautiful and the fall air is refreshing after the oppressive heat, it’s also bittersweet…  I’ve always found fall to be a little sad. All the beauty of fall is actually a form of death (of course, much of it is reborn in spring, but still).  And although it doesn’t mean as much as it once did, when there was a real break in life between summer and the rest of the year, there’s enough of a holdover from childhood for it to be a bit melancholy.  It’s the time of all the “lasts”… one last summer barbecue, one last swim in the lake, one last bonfire, sometimes it’s one last kiss… whatever your summer is about… whatever made it special to you.  The weatherman says we’ll be back in shorts for a couple of days midweek, but I know that’s just a delaying tactic by mother nature… summer’s end is coming, if not already here… and it’s time for that one lasting look around before it’s gone (at least until next year!)… and to turn around and head into the next season with its own beauty, its own pleasures…  They’re already selling Halloween candy in the RL stores and Halloween costume here on the grid… can pumpkin spice latte be far behind?  😉

That is definitely one of THE most memorable lines ever!  One of my favorites from an oldtime classic movie (in case you don’t know, it’s from All About Eve). I just love going all Bette Davis in attitude — at least here in SL, not so much in real life… I just can’t carry it off lol — kind of a “caustic sophisticate” as my BFF here in SL put it.  This dress just called for it all… martinis (offscreen, already imbibed), cigarettes, and of course, the sultry attitude; I’ll leave the throaty delivery of the line up to your imagination.  😉

So yesterday was another day of frustration with my site. I was very unhappy with the subscriber email that went out, and spent quite some time trying to change it. It’s all code, and I have no idea what I’m doing, so I apologize to anyone who gets it if it’s a mess… I will continue to update it until it’s right.  But what really made me crazy (and has made my blood pressure go WAY up lol) was trying to add the little blue WordPress rectangle for readers to follow me on WordPress (thank you Victoria for alerting me that it was missing!).  When I was unable to add it, I went to BlueHost via chat (they host my site). After saying, oh that will take just a few minutes, I was sitting there for over an hour being told just a few more minutes, so sorry, I have to go consult with a higher level, only to end up with a blue FOLLOW button at the bottom of my sidebar that upon clicking took you back up to the top of the page to my email subscriber option.  Unbelievable.  I took to Twitter to vent my frustration where my sanity was rescued by WordPress Medic.  I now have my button and am keeping them in my go-to list for help since everything seems to be working as it should.  Then again, I haven’t seen the email that will go out for this post, but I’ll keep my fingers crossed and do my happy dance until then! 😉

  • Outfit:   1 Hundred (new mainstore coming soon)– Sweet Miami Heat.  It’s sweet & it definitely sizzles!  The cut is awesome — open lacing on the not-too-short crop top; open snaps on the sides of the cutest cut-offs. But the texture even outdoes the cut… the top “wrinkles” perfectly for the lacing, pulling exactly where it should; the shorts do the same & even have a bit of tearing from so much wear.  These are the touches that make an outfit stand out & look realistically fitted. And the pattern! I just love the soft fade, especially on those tones where other colors work themselves in (it’s available in 6 tones or one fatpack; I’m wearing the Melon).  Sized for Slink H/P, Belleza F/I/V & Maitreya.   At the Designer Circle 17/19 August 25th – Sept 7th.  Demo available.
  • Body:  Slink – Hourglass Mesh Body Original, Full Version including Hands (Dynamic) & Feet… 1st time wearing this body!  For some reason, it seems that some of the mesh creators are limiting sizes & not always offering Physique.  For a blogger, not being able to wear styles because of a sizing issue is unacceptable. Since I had the body in inventory but had originally preferred Physique, feeling that Hourglass was just a bit too much for me, I worked on the shape & I have to admit I absolutely LOVE the result.  So you’ll be seeing a lot more of Hourglass in the future…

The End of the World

As you’ve probably noticed, I’m generally what I’ll term “a location blogger”.  In other words, I don’t do studio shots and then photoshop in backgrounds; sometimes I’ll use full backdrops but usually I go out and hunt for locations (though admittedly I use my own land quite a bit).  This is one of the things I’ve always loved to do in SL, to explore… I just love stumbling over some little find, where creativity has taken reign and something wonderful has resulted.  Maybe that’s why I’ve built this into my blogging, even though sometimes it means somewhat harried bouncing from site to site, looking for the “right” place.  This time, I went to the ends of the “earth” to find this perfect little cafe, The World’s End Cafe.  I didn’t use the “themed” regional windlight because it changed the colors of the dress, but this little place is truly a gem!  The only problem is that now I have this song stuck in my head, so of course I think you should too! On a more somber note, though, it IS how I often feel these days… that we’re at the end of the world… and it can (and has) gotten in my way of blogging and created a bit of a block, but at least for right now, this moment here in SL and back there in RL on my computer typing, I feel fine…  I hope you do too!  😉

  • Dress:  Graffitiwear – Sundress, & what a stunner of a little sundress it is!  Halter-style on the top, it then falls gently from the empire-style waist, but it doesn’t fall far & wow, it just makes your legs look like they go on forever!  But one of the many things I love about Graffitiwear is that you’re never left trying to figure out what to do for modesty with these short little dresses… this sundress is incredibly easy to wear because matching crotch covers are included, as well as sandals.  The biggest problem is deciding which texture to wear!  First you have to choose between 3 style groups; each then has a HUD of 6 dresses, 6 crotch covers, & 6 mid-high sandals… or you can just give up & buy the fatpack. I love dressing up and going formal; maybe it’s more of the Barbie principle, but I always feel like a princess or a celebrity or, at the very least, like I’m celebrating a special occasion. I love it in real life too, but frankly it’s not as affordable, or comfortable, and I just don’t look anywhere near as good lol!  The gown is, of course, the crucial starting point, but to show it — and you — off to fullest effect, you need to pay equal attention to all the little details… which hair is best for THAT dress, which skin, what eye shadow (not too much, not too little), what lipstick, and what jewelry.  I see my job as a blogger is to do all that for you, to experiment and create the best look that I can, and then tell you where to find all the pieces so that you can recreate what you like.  The good news is that none of us has to worry about shoes being too high to walk in or being comfortable lol!!!  😉

  • Jewelry: Stone’s Works – Star Flower Diadem is one of those special jewelry pieces that you think you’ll never find a use for & then you realize that it adds that incredibly perfect touch to almost every gown you own. This is the first time I’ve ever done my blog “on the road” so to speak. It’s been quite the challenge, from getting my laptop to allow me to save pictures (my virus protection was blocking it), to remembering/installing the name of the font for my “signature”, to getting access to my WordPress dashboard when everything that I had installed at home suddenly didn’t work when I was away.  I had been so worried about connectivity too; the last time I was here visiting my mom, the wifi had been at a snail’s pace and it was impossible to be in SL. Valentine’s Day is one of those days I always have mixed feelings about. It’s wonderful when you’re in the throes of early romantic love (but then what isn’t, lol?); excruciating when your heart is broken or your soul is aching. The rest of the time — which is most of life — it can be alternately charming or annoying. Reflecting on Choices

What was it I was just talking about in my last blog about things falling together so easily? Hah! Well, sometimes they don’t. Or let me correct myself… sometimes I just get in my own way.  In doing some of my normal running around once I had my look completed, I stumbled upon a location and put together what I thought was a wonderful shot.  And then I realized how many days I had left before I go away for a bit, where I THINK I’ll be able to blog but can’t really be sure about the connection.  Bottom line:  I had to rethink my shots and try to “double up”.  So that fashion shot went into the storage bin as a possible idea for future use (only one of those has ever actually worked out lol) as did another using the beaded lamp that was in the preliminary stages so that I could combine the two into this one.  I’m actually really happy with the result… would I have been happier the other way? We’ll just never know lol!! But that’s the whole thing with choices, big and small… you make the best ones that you can based on the information you have, you live with them, and you move on. I just recently turned down a new sponsorship for an event, because they would have assigned me items to blog. (As of now, I choose which items to blog for all my sponsors.) Was it the right choice?
