The Edge of Tomorrow

http://The Edge of Tomorrow

This time of year can be tough…  we just had family staying with us for a week (and all I’ll say about that is that it wasn’t a particularly easy week), and now my sister is coming tomorrow for the weekend.  It’s always great to have company, but it’s also great when they leave!  What is that old saying?  Fish and company both start to stink after three days lol?  Even when they’re easygoing and NOT difficult, it disrupts your routine and just throws your life out of whack.  And whereas I love it when I find a fashion style that’s just a little different, a little bit edgy, at this stage of the game I don’t particularly enjoy that in my daily life.  (Traveling is, of course, the exception, but then you’re actively choosing it for a short time.  More on this to come, since a major vacation is in the offing!)  But back to fashion…  This outfit is definitely “disruptive,” with an extremely asymmetrical top, leather leggings, and a choice of textures that can really make you indecisive lol.  It’s an outfit that can take you just about anywhere, and take you there in STYLE (and yes, all caps are definitely required in this case).  Happy shopping!

  • Outfit:  Hawkers House – Asymmetrical Buckled Top, worn in Goldrush (just one of more than a dozen phenomenal textures), comes with ladies mesh leather leggings & platform boots.  A totally edgy look, sized for TMP (Legacy), Slink HG/P, Belleza F/I/V, Tonic, Ocacin, Voluptuous, Maitreya & Classic. EXCLUSIVELY available at the April round of the Swank Event, April 7th – 30th.

Seriously? That’s your best line?

http://Seriously that's your best line

It’s been an exceptionally busy few days for me in SL.  Although I’ve loved loved LOVED where we’ve been living, I’ve been so prim starved that (a) I couldn’t landscape/decorate the way I wanted, having to leave lots of empty space (tolerable outside, not so much indoors) and (b) I had to continually swap things out for similar items that were lower prim.  When I needed to rez a backdrop or skybox or even a lot of H&G items for a shoot, I often needed to temporarily delete an entire room of furniture or a landscaped area, etc., and then put it back when done.  The bottom line is that this was costing me way too much time, energy, & even money since I was replacing things I loved just to save a few prims here and there.  So, we gave up our direct access to the Blake Sea, and moved to a new lot “back home” in the estate area where we lived for almost ten years before heading out for the sailable lands.  Moving is time consuming… choosing which lot (this estate does a beautifully fantastic job of environmental landscaping) is stressful for a perfectionist like me, trying to find things in inventory when they’re named strangely (and you fail to write it down!) to rez in the new place is frustrating… looking for a new house to go with the feel of the new land is exhausting.  I finally threw up my hands, put up a temporary house that I picked up at the weekend sales (fabulous house, just too small for me), and released the old lot since no one wants to pay for two lots at the same time.  Very bittersweet… the challenge and excitement of creating something new, mixed with the bittersweet of letting something you love go.  I definitely needed to check out the local bar scene and have a drink!  Time to go collapse on the deck for a bit and just watch the sea… now where did I pack those chairs???

  • Outfit:  C.Y. Fashion – Dakota Fatpack, which includes the shirt, pants, & very high stilettos.  I love the styling of this shirt… single sleeved, cropped with a slight looseness, cut-in neckline, with an artful use of texture with alternating sheer stripes at the neck and the lower part of the one sleeve.  The pants are available not just in 5 different colors, but in three different fabrics… I just had to go for the metallic for that clubby look! Sized for Legacy, Hourglass, Freya, Kupra, & Maitreya, Dakota is EXCLUSIVELY at the March Swank Event, March 7th – 30th.  Demo available.  The fatpack includes
  • Head:  LeLUTKA – Nova Head (EvoX)

Running Late for Work

http://Running late for work

Let me admit it right up front… I’m retired from working in real life (other than blogging that is lol!).  My closet hasn’t quite caught up with my changed lifestyle, however, though I’ve been weeding out all those office outfits slowly but surely.  After all those years working in an office (and in NYC at that!), I still have an eye for those outfits that to me are a bit more sedate than the SL norm.  These days though, I really like those that push the envelope a bit, combining the sophisticated with that sexy touch, looks that I probably would never have dared to wear “back in the day.”  It’s interesting what wearing a look like this does to your attitude… I just feel more capable, more confident… a woman in charge!  And yet, it’s sooooo very suggestive… love love LOVE that!!!! I urge you to check it out for yourself and see if you feel the same way… it’s intoxicating!!! Happy shopping!

  • Outfit:  Vega Design – Deniz Jacket, Skirt & Top.  I love this outfit! In some ways, it felt perfect for work… until you notice how very short it is, just barely covering your butt cheeks.  In my younger days, I might have worn it to the office (though without the shoes!), especially if I was heading out afterwards (which is when I’d add those daring shoes lol).  What’s sexier than a corporate outfit that dares to cross the line just enough to raise an eyebrow or two? This rides that defining edge to perfection! Sized for Legacy, Slink HG/P, Belleza F/I/V, & Maitreya, includes a texture HUD of 6 colors.  EXCLUSIVELY at the March Swank Event, March 7th – 30th.  Demo available.
  • Shoes:  Vega Design – Eric High Heels.  OK, so maybe not the best choice for the office, but definitely for any after-work activity you’ve got planned!!!  These open shoes with thigh-high lacing are to die for!!! Sized for Legacy, Hourglass, Freya, Isis, & Maitreya, includes a texture HUD of 20 colors.  EXCLUSIVELY at the March Swank Event, March 7th – 30th.  Demo available.

Making a Statement

http://Making A Statement

It’s been a horrifying couple of weeks watching the news.  Although there have been many horrors in the world throughout my lifetime, from senseless genocide to natural disasters, and seemingly endless wars, this one for some reason is just hitting me so much harder.  Perhaps it’s because of how endlessly televised it is, or because it truly raises the spectre of World War III, or maybe because both my family and my husband’s family are from Ukraine and Russia.  Who’s to say WHY it seems just so incredibly relevant, and the fact is, the reasons don’t matter.  The fact is that it IS hitting me harder, and I feel thoroughly helpless to do anything.  All I can do is show my support in whatever way I can.  And yes, it’s a teeny tiny thing that doesn’t really help anyone, but wearing the colors of Ukraine to show support is at least SOMETHING, and it IS heartfelt.  Sighs, I only wish I could do more to help these people who inspire me so…

  • Outfit:  Nala Designs – Farah Outfit.  This dress caught my eye the moment I saw it! It’s just so different… deeply cut to the navel while also deeply cut at the hip, but doing more than just showing skin.  Filling those cuts with beaded gems is just a fabulous designer accent; add the fur cuffs & fringe at the thigh cut, & the result is a resounding WOW!!!  The HUD offers 28 color options for the dress (each with two variations), plus 28 separate options for the fur front & the fur at the hands, & another 35 for the gems… I opted for a color combination that I feel is not just different & stunning but also serves to show my support for Ukraine.  Whatever color combination you choose, you’ll definitely be making a statement — a fashion statement — in this dress!  A separate HUD for the included heels (not shown) provides 27 colors for the heels plus 4 options for the metals. Sized for Legacy, Hourglass, Freya, Isis & Maitreya. EXCLUSIVELY at the March Swank Event, March 7th – 30th.  Demo available.

Echoes of Beauty

http://Echoes of Beauty

Have you ever noticed that talking to someone else often helps you clarify your own thoughts?  In chatting with a new blogger for our team (in addition to being a blogger, I also blogger-manage), I really came to a better understanding of my personal preferences, what to me makes a great blogging photo.  I specify “blogging photo” because a lot of fabulous pix are awesome but not good for blogging because you can’t clearly see the item that is being promoted (and let’s face it, that’s what blogging is, it’s advertising and promotion, not just photography).  So although I fave and accept plenty of straight fashion pix because they’re good at showing the design, they don’t reach the level of “great” for ME.   What does it take to reach the level for me, where I sit and study the photo, trying to learn from what someone else did? It’s a sense of artistry, of story-telling, of making the outfit (or decor or whatever) fit the scene, the lighting, the mood…  although some shots actually demand facing or looking straight at the camera with a challenging or sultry attitude, I tend to prefer more natural, candid-seeming caught-in-the-moment shots.  All the details of putting together a look of course come first, but then what you do with that is what makes all the difference.  It’s not easy; I know, I struggle with it in every shot.  Some reach my personal goals, many many fall short, but in my own mind, I’m still only in the advanced beginner stage, and I’m actively trying to learn how to do more.  Thoughts, suggestions, constructive critique is ALWAYS welcome…  And there goes my last preachiness for the month (hopefully, anyway)!!!!  Happy shopping!!!!

  • Gown:  La Feminique – Fleur.  Stunningly feminine, this sleek sequin gown stands out with elegance!  I just love the way the “straps” are done in the front, adds so much interest & kicks the style a notch or two above.  Sized for Belleza, Slink, Maitreya & TMP,  Fleur is available in red or white (worn).  There is no store; this gown is EXCLUSIVELY available at the February Swank Event, Feb 7th – 28th.  Demo available.

The Other Side of Christmas

http://The Other Side of Christmas

So although this pic was taken BEFORE Christmas, I had so many issues with SL (rezzed props disappearing, and then reappearing later when I’d already rezzed another copy, camera freezing, just to name a few), that I never actually got to publish it before leaving to spend the holidays with family.  And although it may not be totally applicable to where we are calendar-wise, I’m considering it representative of the issues that go with the holidays.  Frustrations with lights and other decorations are pretty standard; and from what I hear, so are the blow-ups and strife that sometimes occur at multi-day family get-togethers.  This was our first Christmas flying up north and staying with my daughter’s family for almost a week (prior to this, we’d just driven up for the day or an overnight).  Based on how it went (we almost changed our flights to leave on Christmas Day), we won’t be repeating it under this configuration.  We definitely still want to spend the time, but think that in the future we need outside accommodations in order to create some space all around.  Luckily, we’re back home with absolutely zero travel-related issues and it’s on to New Year’s, and we’ll worry about next Christmas next year… one thing we’ve learned, anything can happen!  And, as an added FYI for this holiday frustration, I’ve been unable to upload anything to FlickR , which is also making it impossible to publish.  Hopefully I’ll get this up before the event ends!!!

Hoping that you had a Merry Christmas, and are looking forward to the New Year (I know that I am!), both in real life and here on the grid.  Happy Holidays, and happy shopping!

  • Outfit:  JUMO –Monique Outfit.  Awesome way to dress down while still dressing up just a bit!  A knit bolero topper over a sexy bralette (sexy enough to elicit a comment from my long-time partner!!) with just slightly torn waist-high jeans.  Choose from 10 different color packs, each with 3 textures for the top, the blouse, & the jeans (I’m using the Mint Hud); the fatpack also includes an Extra Pack with 3 totally different textures.  This sexy little outfit is sized for Legacy, Hourglass, Tonic Curvy/Fine/Mini, Freya, Isis, eBody Curvy, Altamura, Maitreya & Maitreya Petite.  EXCLUSIVELY available at the December Swank Event, open Dec 7th – 31st.

Black Magic Woman

http://Black Magic Woman

Well, now I’ve done it.  I’ve gone and broken one of my cardinal rules about blogging… all fantasy posts are supposed to fall into Thea’s wheelhouse, while I handle human fashion and home & decor.  But this outfit was just too tempting to follow rules like that, and let’s face it… Halloween is one of those times when everyone gets to dress up and picturize their fantasy, and I have just as much right to exercise my imagination as she does!  That said, I think I make a pretty awesome witchy elf with a bent towards the black side of magic!  I had a blast putting this look together and then exploring some of the highly creative Halloween sims that some truly imaginative minds have put together.  I have to admit, I might get a bit wistful once November rolls around and I have to pack away my elfin ears and my witchy wiles… at least till next time!  Happy shopping, and Happy Halloween!

Mistress of Ceremonies

http://Mistress of Ceremonies

And now for the really fun part of Halloween… the costumes!  I mean, let’s get honest… more than half of my life in Second Life is spent role-playing as fae, so you might say that being in costume doesn’t seem like such a big deal.  But somehow it is.  Maybe it’s because I do keep my two personalities pretty separate; maybe it’s the type of outfit (I mean, come on, this is more burlesque and Mardi Gras appropriate than a medieval fantasy character would ever ever wear); maybe it’s something else entirely. I really don’t know, and frankly, I really don’t care.  All I know is that does make my heart beat just a tiny bit faster and brings a silly smile to my face.  Creating the scene was just so much fun, so different from what I normally do.  And that I think is the key… different from my norm.  After more than 14 years in SL, just being inworld is no longer something unique in itself, it IS the norm.  It’s getting to play with outfits like these and the inner fantasy worlds to which they lead that creates a new, different kind of excitement.  And I love it!  Happy shopping!

http://It's exhausting to try to Outshop Cancer, but so worth it!

It may be exhausting, but it’s so very very worthwhile to do whatever you can!  Out Shop Cancer is a main store and Marketplace shopping event – an official Strides Campaign the American Cancer Society in Second Life with proceeds going to support breast cancer research and programs & services for breast cancer survivors. The Out Shop Cancer Shopping event will run the entire month of October.  My meager services as a blogger can only go so far… it’s up to everyone to get out there and shop this event through the month of October and help fight breast cancer, a dread disease that affects us all, one way or another, one time or another.  So whether your brush with cancer is personal or through an acquaintance, is in the past, currently happening, or still waiting out there in the future, it’s important that you do what you can.  That’s what “shopping with a purpose” is all about… buy the things you want, and your lindens go to this all-important charity to help fight this scourge.  So have a cup of the beverage of your choice, and let’s get out there and shop, shop, shop!!!!  Let’s all do our best to Outshop Cancer!

Simply Autumnal

http://Simply Autumn

OK, so I’m finding myself under the gun again.  I lost a lot of time the first half of the month (again), and took on some new assignments.  As much as I absolutely love everything I said yes to, the calendar is shaking its finger at me.  So, rather than do my very time-consuming location shots or scene set-ups with a somewhat natural action as I prefer to do, I’ve decided to take a page out of other blogger playbooks, and try something simpler, faster, obviously posed, but hopefully as beautiful in the result as what has inspired me.  I’m still not very good at adding effects (translated as I’m pretty useless lol, & in this particular case I threw it all in the trash), and I don’t even have Photoshop, but it is what it is, and I can do what I can do, and the bottom line is that I personally think the simplicity of this autumnal setting really sets off the beautifully textured detail of this outfit.  Here’s hoping so do the critics out there!!! Additionally, I’m not going to be able to wait till my preferred posting time, but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.  And I’m doing it lol! In any case, happy shopping as the month nears its end!!!
