I’ve been so happily busy — obsessed even — with spending every spare second  that I’m not putting together fashion looks over at the Fantasy Faire.  Between shopping and exploring and doing on-site photo shoots, time has been FLYING by.  And then suddenly I realized that it’s already May and that the Faire will close in just a few days on May 7th and I’m panicked that I never spent any time with all the wonderfully awesome non-fashion goodies.  So I immediately unpacked all of my outdoor favorites and started seeing what would work together to create a dino-mite scene (sorry, sorry, sorry, I haven’t had my coffee yet!) that would fit in a photo frame.  For some reason, the song ‘Midnight at the Oasis’ started playing in my head (maybe it was on Fantasy Faire radio at the time? I honestly don’t know), but I can’t get it out of mind, and it was that or something about a meeting getting off to a rough start, so that’s the title I’m going with lol.  And now, back to our regularly scheduled program!

  • Dinosaurs:  Prehistorica – The Dawn Kingdoms – Amazing, amazing, totally AMAZING!!! I admit I went a bit dino crazy, but these are just so incredibly realistic (well, it SEEMS realistic, having never really seen a dinosaur I guess it’s all conjecture, now isn’t it?) that I just couldn’t help myself.  If you want to ride — or be — a dinosaur, this is definitely the place to go because they not only have all these to buy they’ve created a prehistoric land where you can RIDE since it admittedly takes quite a bit of space when you’re on one of the big ones.  All of what I used to make this scene & more are available at Fantasy Faire in the Faireland of Khumbala; you can TP direct to Prehistorica’s booth HERE:
    • Allosaurus Animesh Creature (far right with me on top!) – just one of a line of creature “pets” that are rideable or free-roaming.  The controls are really easy to manage, & he roars on command.  Such fun, I can’t stop grinning!!!  See the ad below for more details.
    • Utahraptor Rideable Pet (front left of pool) – one thing that I LOVE about this guy is that you can ATTACH him to ride if you’re in a no-rez area… AND he has a color customization HUD.  Did I mention how much fun it is to ride a dinosaur?  Just one of a range of rideable pets. I LOVE FANTASY FAIRE!  I just can’t get enough, between wandering the 22 lands (22!!!!!), each one with its own distinct personality and hidden secrets, shopping (yes, admittedly it’s probably what I do most), the events, looking at everyone else and the characters they create (though I have to say I get a kick out of the “regular” humans who IMHO always look a bit like they woke up in OZ lol!), even the radio!   I actually keep Fantasy Faire radio on at my home so I can always know what’s going on even if I can’t actually be there (putting together looks or sets for blogging can take quite a bit of time).  The Faire is open ONE MORE WEEK!  The gates close on May 7th… eek!!!! So much more to see and do!!!  DO NOT MISS THIS EVENT! It’s the premiere event for Relay for Life, helping support the fight against cancer.  And for fantasy folk like me, it is definitely the most wonderful time of the year!!!!

Defender of the Fairelands

I know, I know, this is so NOT typical of my life as a fae.  But in a way it is… I’m often positioned as a defender, a guardian (NEVER as the aggressor)… this is just the first time that I’ve shown the “after”, the result of being called to actually DO what I’ve promised time and again, defend the lands.  These lands were created with the blood and sweat and creative juices of so many… and I willingly defend them against all who might cause grief so that the Fairelanders can immerse themselves in the wonders of it all.  Fantasy Faire 2023 is in full swing, open from April 20th through May 7th, at which time the gates will close until next year.  Three weeks’ time, jam-packed with entertainment, quests, exploration, stories, and (of course) shopping, shopping, shopping… and most importantly it is one of the megaevents  of Relay For Life of Second Life.  RFL of SL is a part of American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fundraising, and Fantasy Faire 2023 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world, bringing their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.  It is a DO NOT MISS event, whether you or a loved one or just someone you knew have battled or are battling cancer, or if you just want to see the epitome of creative spirit that lives in Second Life.  Come, join us in the Fairelands!

It’s here, it’s here! The most glorious time of year for anyone who plays fantasy, has any interest in fantasy, or just appreciates the incredible creativity of those who build the fantasy realms.  And yes, I’m talking about Fantasy Faire 2023, the premiere fantasy event in Second Life.  This event is so huge, so special, that it only happens once each year.  This year, the gates to Fantasy Faire opened a few days ago on April 20th, and they will stay open through May 7th.  A benefit for the American Cancer Society, its theme is Many Realms – One Vision.  Fantasy Faire 2023: Building a World Without Cancer.  Celebrating its 15th year, Fantasy Faire 2023 is literally the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world.  It is an event filled with EVERYTHING that Second Life has to offer.  To quote from the official press release:

Spring Eggs

OK, intellectually I get the whole egg thing for the spring, rebirth and mythological and pagan tales, but I do have to say that some designers do it better than others.  These are some of my favorites to build an “egg-celent” fantasy scene (sorry, I just couldn’t resist)…  And since all these eggs are rather on the large size & most have scales, they totally make me think of dragons.  And I do love my dragons, so I naturally snuck one in to my scene!!!!  Happy shopping!

My Gypsy Soul

The beauty of SL is to try on different looks or, in my case, totally different characters.  Each fae I become is way more than just changing an outfit… I transform into someone new, with different attitudes.  It’s a fascinating way to live, but so much a part of who I am, as a fantasy being living my life (or should I say lives?) in this fantasy world of ours… Each one has that touch of magic…  here’s how I created this amazing new me!

  • Outfit:  Jangka Design – Esmeralda, worn in Blue.  Once again, I’m out of superlatives when it comes to Jangka outfits… each one is so unique, so detailed, with so much personality that they literally bring my “character” to life.  With her hip sash complete with dangling “coins”, Esmeralda spoke “gypsy” to me, a strong warrior gypsy, ready to fight but also ready to live life to its fullest.  The bodice is slashed to show some skin (whatever color skin you’re in!), the stunning gold neck gorget, the armbands… I could go on & on, but the bottom line is that this is one more prime example of why Jangka is such a leader in fantasy design.  Sized for Legacy & Maitreya, she is 100% original mesh & is available in 7 fabulously rich colors PLUS 3 limited editions (boots are available in black or brown).  As always, the outfit just feels so authentic & looks so amazing! Reflecting on Ostara…

Ostara… I’m so happy to be an official blogger for “her” special fantasy event here in SL, Ostara’s Altar (a Dark Passions event), full of designer exclusives PLUS a 10L egg hunt. But my human kept stumbling upon references to her in the real world, so I found myself wondering about who she was and how this awesome event came to be.  Although there’s lots of debate and discrepancies (as with most things lol), Ostara is basically a modern pagan holiday, celebrating the spring equinox, which marks the beginning of spring and the awakening of nature.  Named after the ancient Germanic goddess Ostara or Eostre — who was associated with the dawn and new beginnings —  this is a time of rebirth and renewal when the natural world awakens from its winter slumber. It is a time when we can celebrate the return of the light, the growth of new life, and the renewal of hope. It is also a time when we can connect with the natural world, celebrate the changing seasons, and embrace the ongoing cycles of life.  One popular story about Ostara involves the origin of the Easter Bunny.  Essentially, the tale is that Ostara transformed a bird into a hare (how? why? who knows), and the hare responded by laying colored eggs for her festival.  Is this how the Easter bunny and the decorating of eggs began? Again, who knows, but the great news is that anyone who wants to celebrate the arrival of spring and the renewal of life can also participate in this holiday, regardless of their religious or spiritual beliefs.  Bottom line, Ostara is a good time to literally and figuratively plant seeds for the future.  And that is definitely something to reflect upon, especially while shopping this fabulous event!  Take a browse through the Ostara’s Altar Shopping Guide ; then go see the event for some magical shopping, and enjoy the blessings of the season!   • Skin:  Moth & Moon – Yvaine, one of four fabulous skins available in 3 tones each — moss (which I’m thrilled to be wearing!), lilac & peony.  I chose Moss because for me it seems closest to the meaning of Ostara, but also because I just like green! Please note that none of these skins are “made” for my Gaia head, so I couldn’t use the shapes (I did use the brow shapes however); but even though the results varied somewhat from the “ad”, all 4 looked so good I had a hard time choosing! Fiery Fae

I generally think of being “fiery” as being angry or vindictive or deep in warrior mode, but in this skin, I’m realizing that “fiery” can also mean super-charged! I am somewhat befuddled today, however, and so many thoughts are tumbling through my fae brain without any coalescing enough enough to share… so I’m just going to go live in my new skin for a while, take advantage of all that energy and just stretch my wings, fly away and explore all that’s new, all that’s changed, and all I love that thankfully is still there, awaiting my pleasure…  Enjoy!

  • Skin:  Petrichor– Amatheia Summer Skins.  One of an absolutely amazing trio of skin tones released for the Skin Fair, open March 10th – 27th.  (See below for the ad showing all three variations).  Including both male & female versions, these are just the first tones of a full rework of the Amatheia skins, with new bases, new colors, Standard BOM (Evo) & EvoX support along with stand-alone markings on tattoo layers.  As always with Petrichor, the detail is staggeringly beautiful, even down to the tatt for my EvoX ears! Wonder

I want to create.  I feel the urge so strongly sometimes, especially when I see the fabulous things that others bring into being.  And I do create odds and ends here and there, but wow, I am constantly blown away by what others first imagine in their minds and then have the talent and wherewithal to solidify and make SL reality.  And when you stop to think about it, EVERYTHING  on the grid is someone’s creation… every tree, every rock, every place you look and everywhere you go, someone made it happen.  I get such satisfaction from creating ME (and as you know, I have more than one me lol) and modifying myself to better create a look, but to do that I am combining bits and pieces that others have poured themselves into.  When you stop to think about this world we share, it really is a wonder…  And I for one, am so happy to be a part of it!  And who knows? Maybe one day I too will stop talking about the desire to create and I’ll actually do it!  Happy shopping!
