Aaargh, I’ve been so happy exploring this fairy realm (as well as the weekend sales, to be totally honest) that I missed my cut-off for posting today.  I’ve decided that my cut-off time is completely arbitrary, together with the fact that another week of not-very-pleasant medical activities is upcoming for my human, pushed me into taking the daring step of ignoring my own rules.  Besides, I so love this look that I can’t wait to share it! Considering how peace-loving I am, it always surprises me that the warrior-scout mode holds such appeal for me… perhaps it’s that I feel more of a purpose, more of a specified role as it were… and what could possibly be more important to a role-player than having that?!?  But missing that deadline has pushed my time inworld to a much narrower band for the day, and I must be off to put my bow to good use…  Remember: magic is believing in yourself; if you do that, you can make anything happen!!!!!

I feel so bad for my poor human counterpart.  Real life has been quite stressful the last several days, trying to get things in order for a huge overseas trip that begins at the end of this week, with seemingly simple tasks morphing into monumental headaches.  I had to literally beg for a few hours of time to explore more of the exceptionally creative Fantasy Faire — open only until May 8th!!!! — and to create this third look.  Sometimes it’s amazing what you can do under pressure (then again, other times you get crushed lol).  But I don’t have a single moment to waste… I hope to get at least one more fantastic trip through the faire before going to sleep for most of the month…  But oh, the wonders I’ve seen!!!!  Don’t take my word, go see them yourself, now before time runs out and the portals close for another year!!!!

Holiday Guard Duty

It’s always hard to be on duty when everyone else is celebrating.  But sneak attacks have often happened on holidays when the enemy thinks you’ll be too distracted to properly keep watch.  Since my partner is away visiting the tribe of his birth — a tribe where I am not welcome, what with my wings and my horns — I volunteered to take on back-to-back shifts  so that others could relax and enjoy the celebration.  It’s but a small sacrifice to keep watch over this tribe that welcomed us into their midst after we were outcast by our own upon our rule-breaking marriage.   I am happy to do it, and proud of the responsibility they allow this adopted daughter,  and yet, it’s still lonely up here in the heights, hearing the laughter and revelry from below, feeling apart from it all.  It’s been so boring, my mind keeps drifting to other times, other places.  But soon it will be dark; those happy sounds will carry even further, and that is when I need to be on fullest alert, guarding against any and all dangers in the shadows, to protect those who have willingly and openly become our new family.   Perhaps it is the blending of the races in my background, my adherence to no single set of practices, but it is my wish for all to have a happy holiday, whatever and however they celebrate, in any tribe, in any village, in any family.  Sprinkles a little fairy dust on the wind, and with a sigh, I set my mind to hours more of watchful vigilance…

Fae Scouting the Path

Even a fae shares the human tendency to sometimes wonder how life would have been if born into another time, another place.  Based on how the American Indian culture often absorbed — in fact, in many cases welcomed — members of other races, I tend to think that they would have also welcomed members of MY tribe, letting our wings and other attributes be of benefit to the tribe.  As I have said before, I am not an aggressive warrior… I do not attack our perceived enemies.  However, I happily put my enhanced vision and flight ability to scout out trouble and will staunchly defend my people (whichever culture they might be!) if necessary.  And to me, this is the essence of roleplay… to understand your character, her motivation, her life, her story… and then live that life, in that time.  Now I think I see something  in the distance and must focus so that there is time to sound the alert if circumstances dictate…

En Garde!

It’s rare that someone asks, but I notice the looks when I stroll into a strange sim.  As a child of what was at the time a somewhat shocking union between elf and fae, you’d think I’d be used to the subtlety of raised eyebrows and the directness of outright stares.  But in these more modern days, it’s my warrior attire and attitude that seems to draw the more immediate reaction.  It’s sad that even today most people seem to prefer their fantasy folk in either dreamy silks that show a lot of skin or more formal medieval wear that covers it all up (both of which I love to wear on the right occasions)…  warrior garb is still cause for those ongoing second looks.  Sometimes I can even hear the unspoken thoughts about whether I’m just dressing the part or if I have the skill to wield my weapons with expertise.  And believe me, I understand those doubts. Even today, it isn’t easy for a female to become a warrior.  And growing up as an outsider, not really belonging to any one clan, I was included in the basic training given to all so that I could help defend when necessary.  But true warrior training was denied me, so it was something I had to develop the hard way (not that there IS an easy way!), watching, teaching myself, training independently for hours and hours, learning from anyone willing to teach me, whether it be as a lesson to warn me off or to truly help me hone my skills.  So yes, I understand those looks, but mixed in with the hostility and the indifference I am also beginning to note some looks of admiration when a practiced eye notes the ease with which I both carry and wield my weapons, how they are truly extensions of my body.  So as I continue to hone my skills, I’m also learning to hold my head up just a little bit higher, to meet those doubting eyes with confidence and ease, ready to defend.  En garde!

Sighs, my wings are drooping, I’m so tired from all the holiday shopping… the “standard” weekend sales are often exhausting, but all these Black Friday sales???  Not to mention that SL had to throw it’s own brand of action into the mix, making it extremely sloooooooow to attach/detach anything, so trying on demos (which is a must, since no amount of fairy dust will fix something that just doesn’t work on my head, my body, my shape, and so on).  I’m just going to sit pretty for a bit, relax and unwind with a bit of nature and some furry friends to replenish my spirit and my strength.  I see more shopping ahead, but for now, a much needed break to enjoy some of my recent fantastic finds.  May a little fairy dust brighten your shopping excursions in the days ahead!!!

Mother of Dragons

No, I’m not trying to be Daenerys Targaryen, but let’s face it… she’s a pretty impressive role model.  (Ok, she went a little crazy there at the end, but let’s just focus on the positive, shall we?).  I see myself as more of a “Defender of Dragons”, allowing these magnificent creatures a small but private space of their own on my land to grow and flourish in peace.  Once, many years ago in my previous lifetime, I had a circling dragon up above my land who nested at top of my waterfall, but he flew off to search for a new home and a new destiny during my long absence.  Perhaps this little one will grow up to take his place, only time will tell.  Or — as a flight of pure fantasy — perhaps he could be trained to search the grid for fabulous fashion fantasy finds (try saying that 5 times fast!!!)!  Well, until that day, I’m on my own… but since I’m good at sharing, here’s what I’ve found!  Happy shopping!
