Being queen isn’t always a glorious thing. Life lately seems to be for the birds… lots of little (and some really big) things going wrong, causing different levels of grief and aggravation for my poor human. Thankfully, my escape into the world of fantasy keeps me relatively shielded from all of that, although my time awake has been severely curtailed due to her necessary preoccupation with real life. I’m therefore taking full advantage of my limited time inworld, exploring new lands at a less leisurely pace, searching with greater focus for new finds and wonders in order to accomplish what’s needed to do my blogs. That said, I’m off on my wings of fancy to see what I can see, and do what I can do, sprinkling a little fairy dust along the way! May the blessings of the fairies light your way!!!

I need to admit that sometimes lately I’m getting very confused about who I am. Once upon a time, my backstory was very solid, and I was very sure about my place, my role as it were, here on the grid. I dressed and acted to fit my role. But as I embarked on my life as a blogger, I started experimenting with more looks, more roles. There’s the pure fae, the princess, the goddess/priestess, the warrior… most with a medieval tonality but not all… I don’t just change my clothes or hair or whatever… I put together a “look”, creating a new story, and And it feels so very right… until it’s time to move on. There’s always some reluctance, a small tug of sadness when it’s time to take off a persona, fold it up and put it away on the shelf. But as that next new look takes form, almost every single time I once again get to exult in that feeling of “this is it… this is me!” I’ve come to realize that they’re all just facets of my hybrid fae/elven personality… but oh, my self-identity does teeter and totter. It’s not quite an identity crisis, but it does take a bit to reorient myself. Does some of the princess carry over into the warrior? And does the heart of the warrior beat under the royal finery? Yes to both… I’m a warrior princess, building my new backstory look by look… working out the intricacies of who I am, bit by bit. But even a somewhat confused warrior princess has patrol duty… with plenty of time to think! May the blessings of the fairies guide us both!!!!

I love being a fae. I see all the issues my human counterpart is dealing with, the stress and frustration and worry involved in moving her elderly mother into memory care, dealing with the deterioration of a personality and the growth of an aggressive alternate that comes into full power in the afternoons, like an evil queen menacing her subjects. Me, I’m so totally removed from it all, living my life of beauty and fantasy. I try to share some of the magic and wonder, sprinkling a little fairy dust in the hopes of easing her path; the birds and the other messengers that nature sends to whisper about the goings in in that human realm tell me that so far today seems to be a bit better, but I sense her constantly waiting for the phone to ring, summoning her to try to help someone who has in essence become a stranger. It’s so sad… I share her sense of helplessness, because these things are beyond my power, and all I can do is bide my time and tempt her with the chance to escape into this world of color and beauty for even just a little while. I shall work harder to pass on the blessings of the fairies, because there’s no star too far, and no dream too grand, because fairy dust is like love… it creates magic whenever you give it away!

A Midsummer Night

I’m having so much fun as a fantasy blogger! I get to be so many different types of fae, it’s almost like playing a game! Today I have shed my warrior personality (which I will admit to being one of my favorite “attitudes”) and instead donned that of a highly feminine forest creature, exploring the hidden secrets of the mystical woods… It’s lovely to be off guard duty, to simply stroll through the woods and enjoy its beauty and enchantment without fear, but still startling at the advance of another… you never know when you might run into a band of fairies or (perish the thought!) humans, and I do like to avoid mischief when wandering alone, unarmed, at night, through a dark forest… whips around at the sound of a cracking branch, my wings stiffening, only to see a doe and her fawn crossing the path… I feel enchantment abounding in this dark section of the woods, and feel that I should hurry down the path towards the light… Till next time, may your burdens be lifted, and may you have an awesome day! The Viking Way

Vikings… who knew they were so popular a culture here in Second Life? Maybe it’s something new, but in all my years fluttering around the grid, I’d never once stumbled onto it. Suddenly I’m seeing outfits, poses, complete avatars, decor & more. So I dressed the part and went exploring the Viking side of life… the list that came up in search was huge (although admittedly quite a bit of it was from the sexual underbelly of SL, but then that’s true of so many search terms). Instead I opted to visit the role-playing & themed communities, properly armed in case winged fantasy folk were unwelcome. As a side note, unless you’ve been here many many years, you may not have run across the “Humans Only” signs at music venues and clubs or been subjected to the taunts, or being shunned from some RPG communities for not exactly fitting their mold; before even my time began, furries — who used to be much more plentiful — were “hunted”. Although creativity still abounds (the recent Fantasy Faire is a prime example!), the world here and its residents used to be much more varied and interwoven… now it’s a much more segregated existence, with many of those who prefer what I’ll term “alt lifestyles” restricting those identities to the RPG areas. It’s kind of sad, really… the diversity added so much IMHO. Although pointed ears have become “a thing” of late, I do draw some strange reactions when mixing with large numbers of humans at stores or events or playing cards. Thankfully, I can’t hear the whispers! But back to the Vikings!!! In my short travels (and they were quite short), I only ran into one Viking… and he was quite polite, asking if I needed assistance when I was just standing there in various armed stances doing a photo shoot. But based on what I saw, it does seem to be a growing community with lots of options… definitely more to explore!!! And in your own explorations, may you be inspired with lightheartedness and laughter, and leave a little sparkle wherever you go!

Portrait of a Fae

I like this new age. In my former existence, years ago before mesh and BOM hit this world, I had “a look”. Yes, I changed my hair and clothes and wings almost every day, but my skin and ears were always the same (and my horns hadn’t grown in yet). At the time, I thought my look was rather exotic and fae-like; I look back on those pictures and I have to admit it, I cringe. Yes, part of it is just normal evolution, but there was just so little available back then in terms of fantasy look (I remember searching and searching and searching for a skin that had some kind of fantasy makeup lol). Now that I’ve been reborn into this more modern age, I love how easily I can totally reinvent myself, to create whole new looks, new personalities, as the mood or inspiration strikes me. Yes, my shape is pretty constant, but other than that, I’m changing everything all the time… in fact, I’m not 100% sure I’d always be recognized without that little name tag floating above my head! And I’m loving each look, each character, so very much that I often don’t want to change for several days… I want to “live in that skin” so to speak, until my blogging commitments force me to move on… and then I fall in love with the next one! Sighs, maybe that makes me a fickle fae, but if so, I’m a happy one! If it’s one thing I’ve learned… “in the midst of our lives, we must find the magic that makes our souls soar.” I’m finding mine… may you find yours!

I continue to explore the varied realms of Fantasy Faire, trying to pack as many experiences and memories (not to mention shopping!!!) into the few remaining days left before it ends on May 9th. Every visit I seem to find new wonders, and am so happy when my purchases are donations to Relay for Life, it’s just such a win-win. I’m noticing that I’m increasingly comfortable in warrior mode, and am having so much fun experimenting with all the different ways this can be expressed. I will say that warrior mode has never looked quite like this before, but wow, it is definitely fun! The Look of the Day

How do humans stand it? Looking virtually the same, day after day. Yes, they can change the color and style of their hair, vary the color of their eyes, even change their head or shape, but they still basically look the same (and yes, I’m consciously avoiding saying that all humans look the same, because my human counterpart would take umbrage and might stop allowing me to use her blog space). Here on the fantasy side of the spectrum, we have the freedom to do so much more, to revel in our individuality, and to totally change it to fit our mood, to truly have a “look of the day.” If we didn’t all wear name tags on the grid, I wonder if some of my looks would even be recognizable as me, even to my partner! And nowhere is there more to explore in the world of fantasy appearance than at Fantasy Faire 2021, the annual event that is open through May 9th. And if you don’t already know, Fantasy Faire is a Relay for Life event, which means hundreds of items have been donated to the cause, with all proceeds going to the American Cancer Society. Preparing for Fantasy Faire 2021

I guess you could say that I owe my life to Fantasy Faire. I had fallen into a deep dreamless slumber years ago according to the calendar in that strange world of real life. Then suddenly there were tendrils of consciousness leaking into the darkness, whispers about the Fantasy Faire, and blogging. I re-awoke to a new reality, one where I had been totally reborn and recreated afresh with a fantastic new look called mesh. And here it is a whole year later, happily blogging about fashion and home & garden in the world of SL fantasy, and now thrilled to the very tips of my wings that I am once again an official blogger for the Fantasy Faire.

A truly exceptional event that only happens once a year, the Fantasy Faire is the epitome of fantasy in Second Life. There are fabulous shopping finds and music events; it’s a Relay for Life event so the purchase of many many items goes towards the truly worthwhile cause of fighting cancer; there’s questing and parties and auctions and so much more. But to this fae, what makes the Fantasy Faire so truly exceptional is the faire itself, and by that I mean the regions. This year there are 21 regions (21!!! OMG!!!), 15 shopping regions plus 6 “special” ones. And one thing I can guarantee you is that all 21 are totally unique creations that offer their own individual experience. Each region has a different sponsor, and each and every one of them creates a totally unique theme for their region… the sheer creativity behind the design for each one is breathtaking! I’ve had the chance to quickly tour the lands before the official opening, and I have to say that my wings are exhausted from beating so much in joy and wonder as I flitted from region to region, just trying to take in a tiny bit of the dreams on display. I simply cannot wait to explore it all in greater detail, and I promise that this is just the first of many blogs to feature items available at the Faire, and many will also feature settings from the Faire as well (how could I possibly resist????). Does anyone out there not love butterflies? Maybe it’s because I’m often a winged fae inworld, but I do just adore all kinds of winged creatures. Back north, we had plantings specifically designed to attract butterflies & hummingbirds. Now that we’re down south, I’m starting to look into plants suitable to this climate that will do the same. As it is, I love to sit on my lanai and just watch all the different kinds of birds floating on, fishing in, & circling the pond… I can’t wait to be able to add watching the butterflies to the list. Sighs… if only I could have my own wings in real life, but that’s what SL is for!!! Here’s to a bit of fae magic in all our lives!

Horns: Petrichor – Sanya Decohorns. As I’ve said before, I’m one of those fantasy avatars who change my horns to fit my hair & outfit. These are fabulous & really are an essential part of my total look. 100% custom design, these horns have two different color HUDs available, color or fade (I’m using the fade); both HUDs include options to individually color the horn base, the metals, the skulls, ribbons, tassels, & gems.
