I’ve been lucky… I’ve been to Greece, but somehow I’ve never made it to Santorini.  And it’s such an iconic place… when I think of Greece, the image in my mind is one of white buildings, those blue accents on the roofs and doors, and that hot hot white light, some of which I’ve never seen.  And the fact is the way the world is going, I probably never will.  From what I’ve read, Santorini has been overrun with tourists BECAUSE it’s the quintessential Greece… and now all those earthquakes… sighs… well, the good news is that I can wander through the SL version of this magical island without the expense, the crowds, or even having to leave my chair! If only we could TP in RL!!!!

Well it’s that time of year… the final day, the day when we look back over the year that’s ending (and maybe even all the years before it!) and think about what could have gone better, what WE could have done better, and make all kinds of vows about the future.  This year though, I’m a bit more concerned about the world around me and its impact than I am about future personal choices and behavior (although of course, that’s always a factor).  It’s definitely a time of upheaval, and while there can be both positive and negative resulting from it in the long-term, it can be mighty difficult living through it in the moment.  But, all the worrying in the world won’t change the future; all I can do is knuckle down and do my personal best to deal with it and how it impacts my personal situation.  That’s what I tell myself… but of course, being human, and just being ME, the scenario runner who worries about EVERYTHING, I don’t always listen to sound advice like that.  But as my personal New Year’s resolution, I’m going to remain positive, come what may…  Happy New Year and happy shopping!

So it’s my birthday today, Christmas Eve… tough time to have a birthday, not just for me, but for everyone…  It’s not just the date itself, but I’ve always gone a bit overboard in my head about my age and what I’ve accomplished not just in the year past but in my life to date and what I hope to see in the future.  And the older I get (and this is a big milestone year, one that will NOT be mentioned lol!), the less I seem to accomplish and the less time there is out ahead of me.  My current way of dealing with it (which actually seems to work for the most part) is to indulge myself and just wallow for a bit… after I’ve gone through that for a day or two leading up to today, I can wake up and go, okay, ENOUGH.  Let the new year begin!  So, the new year (and new decade of life) has officially begun… happy birthday to me (and happy holiday shopping to us all)!

Hot mulled wine seems to be a big thing in parts of Europe… It was everywhere we went in Europe last month, which was a very good thing considering how cold it was and how insufficient my coat was at keeping the cold at bay (hey, I live in Florida; my outerwear — and the ability to carry it on a plane — is limited lol!).  Personally, I still prefer hot apple cider, which I guess is more of an American thing, but one of the friends I was traveling with went wild over the wine! And it certainly does warm you up AND give you that relaxed sultry feeling that you can only get from red wine…  wish I had some here before I go out in our version of cold (which is definitely NOT what I used to experience up north) and do more shopping!  Enjoy!
