I’m not quite sure why, but I have the strangest lyrics running through my head whenever I look at this pic… that moment in The Wizard of Oz when the gates to the Emerald City finally open to admit Dorothy and friends.  It’s all about stepping from the dark into the light.  Of course, in the song it’s meant to be more figurative whereas this is a much more literal interpretation, but for whatever reason this image is triggering that music in my fae brain… at least it’s happy music!!!  And now I’m off to see all the wonders of the royal court, and enmesh myself in the final days of Enchantment… I might even get the chance to bow to royalty!!! You never know!  Takes a deep breath, stiffens my wings, straightens my back, lifts my chin, clenches a handful of fairy dust for security, and enters the royal halls…

I have been locked up in my treehouse, whilst my human had a houseful of weeklong guests celebrating some strange holiday that involves a great deal of cooking and eating and a seemingly even greater amount of cleaning up.  I have finally managed to make it to the courtyard where I was hoping to make a full escape, but it seems that I’ve been caught!  At least I’ve managed to get one post out, but sadly so so late… I don’t understand these holidays and why they are so disruptive to my lovely little lifestyle… sighs… if only my magic worked on my human, but she is definitely the one in control.  All I know is that I definitely need some fae time!!!

So half my company is here for Thanksgiving, and the house is not quite pandemonium, but with 3 large dogs and one small senior dog who is ALWAYS underfoot, it is definitely close!  So much fun though to have everyone here, pitching in, preparing for the feast…  Time in SL is definitely at a premium, but I did want to make the time to show this awesome little outfit (and of course I went for one of the animal print options!)…  not much time for more than that… Enjoy!!!!

Thanksgiving Style

It’s that time of year…  our company starts arriving tomorrow, so I’ve been incredibly busy cleaning house, prepping both for our company (who begins to arrive TODAY) and for the big meal on Thursday… all while still dealing with this ridiculous pinched nerve that affects EVERYTHING.  It’s a much smaller gathering than when the kids were small, but we are still thankful to have the opportunity to celebrate with family and friends.  It’s one where we’ve always gone all out in terms of food… and although the menu is necessarily smaller — I mean how many dishes can you possibly serve to a crowd of just 7 people??? — it’s still a lot to pull together.  What will be especially interesting is that this is the first time we will have 4 dogs — 3 of whom are quite large — in this relatively small house together… and they will be together for a full week.  Should be interesting and hopefully will engender a great deal of fun and laughter (though I doubt the cats will agree).   Time in SL will of course necessarily be limited, so I wanted to take this opportunity to wish everyone who celebrates (and even those who don’t!!!) a wonderful Thanksgiving!!!

Having been born and bred in Manhattan and then having spent most of my working life in the world of NYC advertising, this entire scene feels very familiar to me.  One thing I definitely know, NOTHING is more important to either the working woman or the socialite or to ANY woman who wants to stand out and be noticed than the Power Suit.   And for those who may be confused with superhero power suits, this is definitely NOT that kind of suit, though it does indeed make you feel powerful and pulled together, ready to take charge or have your wants/needs not just heard but met.  A must have in EVERY woman’s closet, in whichever color is the color that makes you feel your best, no matter what the situation!  In this suit, you feel like you can easily go forth and conquer, whatever the goal! Dirty Laundry

I don’t know about you, but I am sick to death of both the news and political advertising.  Yes, news is important, but the vast majority of “breaking news” is no longer breaking… and so much of what passes as news today really is just “dirty laundry”.  And just like the song lyrics, even the worst tragedy is presented with “a gleam in her (let’s just say their) eye”…  As someone who originally studied journalism  with the goal of working in that industry, I’m so very glad that I ended up elsewhere in life…  That said, I’m as eager as the next one to hear the headlines; I just want it to be “real” news, not rehashed over “older” news, with just one more viewpoint added on top of it.  That is just not news.  Be what it may, it’s here to stay, though sadly the printed version is rapidly disappearing.  I always loved perusing the titles hanging at the corner newsstand, especially when the proprietor allowed you to thumb through to see if it was worth a purchase.  And nothing, NOTHING, goes better with a newspaper (or with anything really lol) than a cup of coffee…as for looking good while doing just that? That NEVER goes out of style!!!  And that’s a news flash!!!!

The Magic of Armor

Armor is rather critical to any kind of warrior, whether it’s modern day (think Kevlar) or medieval or pure fantasy or even mental, and it constantly amazes me the creative ways that different designers attack it (sorry, it’s late and I get a bit punny)…This is a completely different take on armor than my last post… I feel that both are exceptional & are designed beautifully for different uses.  IMHO, the key to good armor is finding the right balance between protection and mobility.  Different styles of armor are needed for different uses and situations.  There are so many stories about knights of yore toppling over and then, because of the weight of their armor, being unable to rise and defend themselves.  But just because I’m not in a battle, it doesn’t mean that my body doesn’t need any protection out alone in this sometimes harsh world.  This beautifully articulated set is designed to protect the legs and the ribs, which is all I need for my daily trips into the forest with my trusty axe…  As I like to think of it, it’s lightweight but heavy duty where it counts!!!  (It’s also quite helpful in those crowded weekend shopping venues where folks are pushing and shoving to get at the latest deals lol)…  Speaking of which, it’s weekend, and it’s time to start doing all those things that manage to escape getting done during the week…  Happy weekend!!!

A little bit more of a modern feel than normal for me, but I decided to venture a bit out of my time zone as-it-were in order to try on a totally different culture…  isn’t that what role-playing (if not ALL of Second Life!!!!) is all about? I just love it when I discover items that totally spur my imagination and help me go somewhere I’ve never been before.  So much fun!!! This is what makes me love what I do!!!  And it being Halloween, it’s when even those of you don’t generally role play can go ahead and try it on, and just have fun without feeling self-conscious.  And who knows? You might discover a whole new side of yourself! (As an aside, that is exactly how I, Thea the fae, came to be.  Ceja & partner dressed as elves and had so much fun, alts were born!)  Sprinkles some dark fairy dust (it IS Halloween, after all) & dashes off to explore more hauntings…
