As promised, today’s post is a close-up take of yesterday’s blog for this incredible autumnal waterfall.  Combining fashion and H&G can be difficult:  too far out a shot and you can’t see the fashion; too far in and you can’t properly see the Home&Garden item.  Since I really wanted to feature both, I considered a “double post” (posting two shots at the same time for one blog) but I continually find that by doing this, neither item fully gets the attention it deserves.  So instead I opted for a “split post”, where I have two different takes on the same general shot, one that’s a closeup and one that’s not.  I took the opportunity to feature a different animation that’s included with the waterfall, and in case you’re feeling lazy and don’t want to go look for yesterday’s post (though I’ve given a handy link below lol!), I’ve included a 2nd pull-out shot.  Enjoy!

The Play of Light

I’ve always been fascinated by light.  How it streams through the clouds.  How it reflects and illuminates and hides and transforms.  When I was young, I had tried for a while to capture it in paint, but my talents in that arena are sadly lacking.  I’m absolutely amazed by what artists are able to capture.  Instead I turned to photography, where again I’m no artist but at least I can produce images that make me smile and nod and say, ok I like that.  Inworld I’ve been playing with windlights for quite some time; now I’m trying to teach myself how to use overlays in my photo editing program (and no, I don’t have Photoshop where it’s probably a bit easier).  I’ve discovered that adding a small light flare here or there can add a special little touch to an image and help bring out the magic of light.  I am humbled by what some of my fellow bloggers/photographers can do, and hope to be able to achieve even a portion of what I see…  To light!

I’ve always loved waterfalls, big ones, small ones, doesn’t matter.  Something about the sound, the feel, that freshness in the air all around them is just so invigorating both to body and spirit.  The big waterfalls are inspiring and mesmerizing; little ones entice you to draw ever closer to their magic.  A mystical way to start a fae’s busy day!  Happy shopping!

Contrary to common human belief, being a fae is not all fun & games.  The fantasy kingdoms need protection, & in exchange for the ability to relax & enjoy the beauty of the realms, many of us step up & do our part to help protect & ensure their continuation, both against threats from the less-friendly denizens & those from the outside world.  The main problem with patrol is not to get too distracted by the beauty or the hidden secrets when you stumble upon them, or you can find yourself lost in wonder & exploration. Next time you wander in the forest, keep an eye out & listen for the fluttering of wings… you never know what you might find!

Prim Precious

As my human counterpart talked about in an earlier post, my elven partner and I seem to have outstayed our welcome at her home.  Even though we had restricted ourselves to the farthest corner of the property in order to ensure privacy for both us and them, we were not so subtly encouraged to vacate the premises.  She wanted us out of there so badly she even gave me use of some of her premium allotment to get a Linden home.  Themed communities are relatively new when it comes to Linden homes; it was one of the things they introduced earlier this year when they updated the linden homes.  Now in addition to offering a variety of home styles, there are also four “first-generation themes”, one of which is Elderglen, or fantasy dwellings.  I had my choice of 4 styles, one of which really is pretty perfect for elven folk.  But the downside is that (a) personal outdoor space is almost non-existent, and (b) you only get 175 prims (not counting the house).  Since the outdoors and nature is very important to us as fantasy folk, I chose a home style with a rooftop for outside decor.  I’ve been working hard to make our nest both stylish and comfy, reflecting who we are, but the fact remains that when you only have 175 prims, every single prim is precious, and every design decision is critical.  Our home is situated right on the water, so I knew that I wanted outdoor seating where we could lounge and watch the sunset and the way the moonlight sparkles on the water.  I also knew that as a fantasy creature herself, one of my sponsors — Tylar at Tylar’s Treasures — does some amazing fantasy-style creations as well as many that could go “either way”, so that is where I went first.  And I was thrilled to find the Brantley Collection, which has now taken its place as the waterfront viewing spot of our new home.  (And with all the great animations that are included, I’m sure we’ll be doing more than just watching the sky and the water lol!)

Irresistible to Mermaids

I’m physically a mess when it comes to my lower extremities.  I recently had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in my knee, but for years I’ve suffered with painful feet and ankles that swell to the size of softballs which I’ve just learned is due to severe arthritis.   Perhaps this is why the idea of being a mermaid is so appealing to me, to not have to deal with all the painful difficulties I have with my legs (though somehow I think I’d probably be at the mer-doctor to see about a painful crick in my tail lol).  In any case, I absolutely loved the whole mermaid look I created back at the Fantasy Faire.  And this truly awesome Little-Mermaid-inspired single pose and prop was just too hard to resist, so I brought her back from the depths in order to squeeze in a blog before the month ended.  Includes a wonderfully detailed scenic prop on it’s own bed of sand that includes the pose; fork is included too, though my favorite thing are the bubbles!  An awesome piece of decor for any underwater scene, even when not going through your collection!  And of course now that I’m back in mermaid form, I have the urge to flip my tail and go exploring the deep… happy shopping!

A Poet’s Heart

I get so excited when I have the opportunity to blog something that falls under “fantasy,” although I guess some would argue that EVERYTHING in Second Life fits under that headline.  But for me, there is a very obvious difference… the world of fantasy is one that doesn’t reflect modern life, so it includes all the fantasy creatures (fairies, elves, mermaids, centaurs, furries, and more), as well as medieval, steampunk, and futuristic genres. I’m sure there are more that aren’t coming to mind, but the point is that they all represent things that just don’t fit into our everyday existence.  As I’ve said previously, many years ago I had created an alt to play in SL as a fae, rather than “dress up” my regular avatar.  Doing fantasy as Ceja felt like wearing a costume; dressing in my fantasy clothes as Thea felt more “real” and part of every day because it’s just who she was.   Back when the Fantasy Faire was happening, I was excited to revive and update my fae existence, and now really yearn to blog more fantasy.  I’m SOOO thrilled to have a new fantasy sponsor, Poet’s Heart, that will truly help me spread my wings and fly!  Just the first post of what I promise to be many more!

I’ve always had a special affinity for Alice in Wonderland.  In elementary school, I was often called Alison Wonderland (meant derogatively, of course), but it never bothered me because I secretly liked it.  (I didn’t like it as much when they called my best friend and I Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, but hey, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as what some other kids got). I loved the story and its drug-fueled imagination (of course, I didn’t understand the drug angle until much later), falling through a hole into a new world, kind of like Dorothy landing in Oz.  Alice was never my favorite character though; I always loved the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat.  So when I saw this outfit for the Down the Rabbit Hole event — which is a really fun theme, and no, you don’t have to drink anything or shrink small to go! — I knew it was mine to blog.  And I do mean MINE, not my alt who does the fantasy blogging, but MINE.  I mean come on… the provided hair is RED, and that means it’s MINE.  What a relief knowing that I definitely have the perfect outfit all set for Halloween!!!
