I’m a fae.  I’m a fantasy character living in a fantasy world filled with magical creations.  But even I have been touched by cancer.  And I don’t just mean my real-world counterpart, who has been impacted by the death of loved ones, who has been watching a brother-in-law fade away due to a 911 cancer.  Here on the grid, I lost my bff years ago to an extremely rare cancer.  And that is the awful thing about cancer… it touches everyone in some way.  Some suffer through it themselves and survive; others watch their loved ones suffer, and all too often have to endure the loss that follows.  And yes, death is a part of life. that never-ending circle.  But that doesn’t make the pain and loss any easier to bear, even when it is a grief shared by many.  That is why Relay for Life is so important… it’s an easy way for all of us to do something to help fight against this disease, to help fund those who are looking to find a cure so that in some happier future, there will be less loss, suffering and pain due to cancer.

In traversing the 21 wondrously creative Fairelands of Fantasy Faire 2021, a Relay for Life event that has raised almost $44,000USD by the end of the 9th Faire Day (that’s halfway through the event), the realm of Ling Xiao Long struck a particularly resonant chord.  To quote the FF website, “Hua Long Dian Jing, is a Chinese proverb meaning “painting a dragon, dotting its eyes.” The proverb comes from a story about an artist who painted a dragon who came to life as soon as the eyes have been dotted. The design of this region brings this proverb to reality, manifesting strokes of ink brush into a 3D world.”   I found the stark juxtaposition of bright red against the black and white brush strokes to be highly impactful, evoking a sense of loss and living in a colorless world after having suffered and lived through a loss.  I highly recommend taking a break from shopping and going for a stroll through this realm (which is an event region and therefore without any stores)… but then go back and do more shopping with a purpose!  Let’s raise that donation amount to the cause!!!!

In my little corner of the world, life seems to be heading back to normal.  The vast majority of those who want to be vaccinated have done so, which makes everyone more willing to go out and do things.  And as more activities resume after this more-than-a-year-long hiatus, there’s so much more to do!  With the snowbirds returning to the north, it’s starting to get easier to get into classes where spacing is limited because of still-in-effect Covid restrictions.  The bottom line is that I’m busier than ever, both with physical activities and now with a newly invigorated social life.  It really is amazing to me how life has changed since our move in November.  The looming issue are the warnings about how hot it does get here in the summer.  Well, NY was no picnic either with its hot humid summers, but summer here does last about twice as long.  Of course, everything down here is air conditioned and many outdoor restaurant spots have misters, which should help but only time will tell.  At this point, I’m actually enjoying the hot days (we’ve been in the low 90s many times already, but who knows?  All I can do is prepare for the long, hot summer ahead! (And of course, shop… there’s always shopping!!!!)

Sighs wearily… this fae is not feeling so bright-eyed this morning… the portals were beckoning, and I stayed up WAYYYY too late last night exploring Fantasy Faire 2021.  I think (and I’m stressing the word “think”) that I’ve now at least touched down in every one of the 21 regions, but I’m really not sure since I kept getting distracted by all the sights and sounds (dancing up on a skyship in The Dark Awakening!), and yes, all the magnificent wonders in the more than 200 shops.  Fantasy Faire really is a feast for the eyes, though I personally find it a bit humbling when surrounded by such amazing creativity.  So many times I’ve crossed through a portal to say “oooh, I think this is my favorite realm” to just say the exact same thing when crossing over into another.  So much to see, so much to do, so much to buy, and so much good to contribute! As of the end of the 4th Faire Day, Fantasy Faire 2021 has already relayed L$6,246,147… that’s $24,984 USD to fight cancer! It’s been another rough week IRL; hubby is having back surgery tomorrow… scary, but hopefully it will resolve this last round of major issues.  On top of that, it has been pouring for days, with several more days to come.  Since my body is a walking barometer, it hasn’t been much fun at all… even typing has been difficult!  Since my dog simply cannot abide getting wet, her walking schedule is completely out the window, instead being dictated by breaks in the rain from downpour to drizzle or even a few wild moments of no drops at all.  Hopefully all of this negative stuff will be done by the end of the week, and I can get back to important things like golf lol!  One thing that hasn’t stopped, of course, is shopping!!!!  Let me spread the joy lol, with some fabulous finds…  Happy shopping!

It’s been a while since I blogged, at least in terms of my normal schedule (which has in itself been lessened of late).  We’re back in medical mode, with lots of doctor’s appointments and all the stress of dealing with yet another unknown.  It didn’t take all that long for us to discover that  the meds and injections weren’t going to accomplish anything beyond very short-term relief, but we’ve lucked out considering some of the alternatives. Hubby is now scheduled for an outpatient orthoscopic procedure on his back, so things can hopefully start getting back to normal by the middle of next week.  Of course I then want to start dealing with my own physical issues lol, but thankfully none of them are as serious or painful as what he has had to endure, but my thinking is that pain is pain, and it’s better to deal with it before getting to that stage.  In any case, I found some lovely items for relaxing casual wear, which is perfect for my life at the moment (not that I could ever in a million years wear anything like this IRL lol)… and for some reason, this shot totally reminded me of a book I read with my daughter years and years ago (in her horse phase) about a horse named Misty on Chincoteague Island.  We even did a little family vacation there in order to show her the wild horses!  Years and years ago; I do hope the horses are still there, I know they were disappearing as civilization moved in closer and closer to their habitat.  But this little foal is doing well, making friends…  Have a great weekend, filled with lots of happy shopping!

Now that I’ve moved to the south and am much more active, I’ve started dieting.  Took me just over a month to lose the 10 pounds I’d put on during my COVID hibernation! Not that I’m stopping there, although I’ve made sure that I’ve totally realized and accepted that my figure will never EVER approach the one(s) that I have here on the grid.  Wouldn’t it be awesome if somehow we all had body sliders in real life? I sincerely doubt that will EVER be a reality, but it is amazing how much better and energetic I feel since I’ve started really settling in to my new home.  I’m always ready to go try some new activity and just keep busy, while keeping a watchful eye not to overdo to the point where I end up sidelined for weeks or more.  I’m also learning to integrate my blogging time better into my schedule, which will hopefully lead to a more reasonable schedule of posts!  Glances at my FitBit… time to get hoppin’ to the next activity! (I know, I know, but I HAD to have at least one reference lol!)  Happy shopping!

Happy Easter!  I have to say, I’ve never quite understood the relationship of bunnies to eggs, or how they relate to the whole meaning of Easter.  My understanding is that it’s linked to some pagan rituals about spring and rebirth that were “adopted”, but I’m sure the exact roots of the traditions are long lost in the annals of history and lore.  (And I won’t even get started about how chocolate got into the mix let alone dressing up like a Playboy bunny for Easter in SL.)  All of that said, I did dig through my inventory to find the most amazing scripted bunny ears and tail that wiggle and move, and have a life of their own, in order to have a little dress up fun for the holiday.  So many fun items out there, especially at the Evil Bunny Hunt  that I’ve decided to dedicate two blog posts to highlight just a few.  Now get hoppin’ on all that fun shoppin’!  (The Evil Bunny Hunt runs from April 3rd – 30th; you can see all the items & their hints HERE.  The hunt consists of evil and nice eggs, designers choosing which theme they prefer.
