I may have talked about this before, but I read books.  A lot. About a book a week, sometimes more, sometimes less, but I’d say that’s about where it averages out. And when I say books, I mean REAL books, not digital.  I like the feel of the pages, the weight in my hand, the turning, the ability to flip back.  I only read fiction, but I read all genres, though I definitely have my favorites.  I have a book with me at all times (it’s one of the reasons I favor large handbags).  In my younger days, I was that girl sitting at the bar with a drink and an open book.  I have a hard time understanding why people DON’T enjoy reading, but hey, to each his own.  I’m one of those people who get excited when I find a bookstore; I love libraries; I literally have hundreds of books at home that I’ve gathered but haven’t had a chance to read yet.  And that’s why this scene speaks so much to who I am… I would love love LOVE to have a little hideaway like this in real life where I could be surrounded by books and make myself nice and comfy while indulging in my addiction… In fact, this one looks interesting… think I’ll just curl up for a little bit before heading out for my other addiction… shopping therapy! People get so caught up in Valentine’s Day, you’d think it was the only day for love.  I’ve got news for some of you… it’s not! Love is all around us, every day; sometimes, we just have to open our eyes to see it. It may not be as obvious as a big bouquet of roses or a fancy box of chocolates or a sparkly piece of jewelry; it might be an unasked for cup of tea when you’re feeling a little achy or having one of your chores done for you.  The simple things, that all too often go unnoticed (something I know that I’m definitely guilty of).  That said, I’m still a sucker for getting all dressed up here in SL (it’s nowhere near as much fun in RL, much more uncomfortable lol) and having the big romantic evening, dancing to songs from the rat pack era.  I just do always try to be mindful as to the differences between the reality and the appearance of love… and then thoroughly enjoy them both (especially where they overlap)!  Now go do some shopping, and be happy!

Summer Breeze

By this time of year, as I look out the window at the bitter cold rain and reach for my winter coat, my thoughts inevitably turn to warmer climes. I’m just not built for cold weather.  Then again, I’m not built for hot weather either. I like a rather narrow band of temperate weather lol.  Though I feel that with cold, there’s not much you can do other than bundle up or go inside.  If there’s a breeze, and you can lie in the shade, heat can not only be tolerable it can be pleasurable… unless it’s excessive, then you’re back to going inside! In any case, when you’re in the cold, the heat seems wonderful, and vice versa.  A typical case of the grass being greener.  Me, I’m ready to do the great migration from the northeast to the southeast… my bones are cold and my joints are aching! Only one thing to do… SHOPPING THERAPY!!!!  Happy shopping!

Music is such magic. It’s amazing how a song you’ve heard millions of times can become so different depending on when or where you hear it or whom you hear it with.   And once that happens, every time you hear that song, it will conjure up such memories, such emotions, no matter where you are or what you’re doing.  Is it that the music adds magic to the moment, or that the moment — or the person you’re sharing it with — adds magic to the music?  It’s probably one of those chicken-and-egg questions.  All I know is that there are songs that are forever indelibly inked on my heart and mind.  Perhaps that’s why the DJ has such an almost mythical role in popular culture. Unless you have a heart of stone, I’m sure you’ve felt the impact of the tragedy of the fires in Australia.  Obviously, those of us who live halfway across the planet can’t possibly understand the full impact and the devastation.  But if you love this planet — and I surely hope you do — then you’ve felt SOMETHING.  Me, I’ve adored koala bears and everything Australian since I was a little girl and assigned Australia for my “independent study and presentation”.  I still remember the poster board I created with cut-outs and descriptions of koala bears, platypus, kangaroos, and dingos… I still have a collection of dozens of koala bears of all types.  So for me, the opportunity to help raise awareness (!!!) and much-needed funds was a no-brainer, and I jumped at the chance to incorporate it into my blogging.  I hope you’ll take the time to check out both events I’m blogging today… happy shopping!

There are a lot of things I really like about getting older, the biggest being that I care a whole lot less about what other people think.  But one thing I really DON’T like (aside from all the aches and pains and looks stuff lol) is the inability to connect with information that I just know is in my brain.  No I don’t walk into rooms and wonder why I’m there, and I still remember all the words to songs I grew up with and lots of movie quotes.  I still do pretty well on Jeopardy! every night. For me, the worst is when I see someone that I absolutely recognize, but either I just can’t quite place them or (and this is the worst) I know exactly who they are but can’t quite remember their name.  Now I’ll admit that although I’ve always been very good with faces, I’ve never been particularly good at names.  In fact I taught my kids at a very young age to always say, “Mom, you remember Mrs. so and so” in order to kickstart my memory. But now that they’re grown and I’m on my own, there are times that I’m standing there racking my brain, trying to make those synapses connect… though I will say that I’ve gotten quite good at holding conversations with people who THINK I know exactly who they are to the point that I walk away having absolutely no idea who I’ve been talking to lol, and I don’t think they have a clue! At least I hope they don’t! Not quite sure if that’s funny or sad… probably a mix of both.  Not much I can do about it either way lol, except to go do some shopping therapy!  Happy shopping!

A Living Statue

Have you ever wanted to be a goddess (or a god, if you’re a guy) and had statues made in your image? I remember as a kid walking through museums, striking the poses of the statues and paintings, wondering what it would be like., but never wanting to be worshiped, just to be loved.  More recently, I remember the first time I saw a living statue… I thought it was real, and nearly jumped out of my skin when it moved.  I find them fascinating… the combination of artistry and patience is amazing.  The chance therefore to be a living statue was one I couldn’t pass up.  I hope I did it justice. I did one learn very important thing… I definitely do NOT have the patience to ever be a living statue IRL (not that I ever actually considered it, but hey, you never know where life could lead you, right?)  So that’s definitely one future career choice that’s never to be lol.  So on to the next! Time to take my cracked skin off and let the real girl out!  In the meantime, happy shopping!

  • Skin:  7 Deadly s[K]ins – Hally, worn in Cracked.  This is an older skin, no longer even available except upon request.  But I’m such a fan of 7DS, that whenever I’m looking for something particular in terms of skin, I always go to them first.  And I had something VERY particular in mind for my living statue, a metallic or stone skin.  Whereas this skin is neither, I felt that it was not only suggestive of both but also much more imaginative in that the crack showed a glimpse of the “real girl” hiding underneath, as you can clearly see in the closeup below.  I do definitely want to make note of the fact that Hally is a beautiful skin when worn in “regular” tones, too, but truly exceptional when looking for something totally different.

Friday night was my 12th anniversary in Second Life.  NOT my rez day, my anniversary, with the same amazing guy.  Our first date all those years ago was at Frank’s, back when there were poseballs.  (If you don’t know what those were, each set was for one particular dance.  To dance something else, you needed to jump to another set that wasn’t being used.)  Being a first date, we started with something innocuous, a waltz.  After a while, we jumped to something like a foxtrot.  And then the original SL3 became available, definitely a romantic choice in those days, something that carried meaning, and I remember wondering if he’d suggest we make the jump.  He did, and the rest followed.  It’s been a fabulous 12 years, and so Friday was therefore a pretty special occasion for me.  We were going to Frank’s (like we’ve done every single year on our anniversary!), which meant that I wanted to look my very best.  Because it had been so many years together, I wanted a gorgeous gown that combined a sense of elegance and style with pure sexuality.  I tried on lots of gowns… LOTS.  But the moment this one was on, I just knew.  It was the one.  Kind of like with my guy.  I just knew.  Sighs, smiling.  Now go have fun shopping!

Well, I don’t know what it’s like where you live, but where I live, we’re back in the cold.  Somehow that little dalliance with warmer temperatures just made it worse.  Now Mother Nature saying is saying “Hah, just fooling! Here, take that!” as she blows freezing air right off the river at me as I shiver and rush the dog through her paces.  All I want to do is go home, climb back into bed, burrow under the blankets, and dream of snuggling with my baby… Instead, I have to get dressed and go to work.  It’s just not fair lol… at least on the grid I can enjoy the beauty of winter without freezing my you-know-what off, or tp off to tropical climes.  Ahhhh, that’s the life!  Shop happy!
