Wishes. There are so many sayings and so many songs about wishes.  Wishing on a star, wishing and hoping, wishing your life away, blowing out the candles and making a wish, and on and on. And I’ve admittedly made my share of wishes, but the fact is, I honestly believe that for the most part (and yes, you’ll notice I said “for the most part”) you make your own luck.  But I’m mixing things up, because LUCK and WISHES are two totally different things. Some people are just plain lucky; others seem to have little black clouds that follow them everywhere. Karma? Who knows. Maybe I’m just mixing things up even more into one big stew. But wishes?  I think they’re great to make, because they help you focus on what you really want, even if it’s just for the moment. And if it’s what you really really want, you can work towards it. But you know the other saying too… be careful of what you wish for! Because wanting and having are two totally different things. Well, enough of a Monday morning ramble… times have changed, Jiminy Cricket has retired, so I’ll just wish upon a snitch instead!

So here I was, thinking I was almost all caught up on blogging and would actually be able to make my minimums this month. And then SL decided to act like, well, like SL.  It’s hard to blog when things don’t rez, when skin and makeup don’t apply, when your camera doesn’t function correctly.  FlickR got into the act too with an image not uploading, comments not posting, and one award group that I use a lot just not admitting images to the next level.  That’s when you start questioning if you’re having fun yet lol.  And I couldn’t even birth new kitties or go shopping to make myself feel better, lol, what’s a girl to do? (Seriously, what’s the answer? I could use one, other than go back to real life, which is what I did lol!)  Thankfully, both issues were relatively short-lived, and everything seems back to “normal” (whatever that is).  Now I’m just another photographer-at-work, a bit frantic because we’re approaching end-of-month and I’m wondering how I’m ever going to get it all done lol! And of course on top of all that, it’s Halloween!!!! Definitely trick or treat time! Happy shopping!

Dream On

http://Dream OnSo I’m generally not an animal print or animal skin person.  Don’t get me wrong, when done well, they’re awesome… the problem is that IMHO, they’re rarely done well which means they just look, well, tacky.  This is one outfit that is done EXCEPTIONALLY well.  The texture for the crocodile “skin” itself is AMAZING, and on the pants — falling just below the waist and shaped sooooo perfectly especially for a curvy shape like mine — it’s broken up with perfectly placed mesh insets that add interest, draw the eye, and keep it from being “too much”.  The sexy little open-laced top is also an unquestionable winner.  Granted, some of the colors in the included HUD were a little too far out there for me, but even so, they were still extremely well done.  And there were still several more “natural” crocodile colors — like the silver grey I’m wearing — that made this outfit go on my list of total knockouts! Halloween is not just about horror and screams and chills. There’s a whole other side of dressing up in costume, one of beauty, honoring characters and icons that have touched our hearts and minds in one way or another.  This is one of those Halloween outfits.  The second I saw it, I yearned to be able to say “I’m not bad; I’m just drawn that way”, and to toss my long wavy red hair away from my eyes as I sashayed across the floor in a very tight gown with operatic gloves.  It made me laugh, it made me smile, and with what’s been going on in my real life, that’s quite an achievement.  I almost ALMOST modified my body to create a wasp waist and accentuate the effect even further, but I decided that in this gown, I was hourglass enough with my “regular” shape.  Let’s just quote Jessica herself, and say that in wearing this awesome outfit, “You don’t know how hard it is being a woman looking the way I do.”  What’s so awesome is the fact that now you can. I have to admit that all of the “stuff” that goes with dealing with my mom’s situation and helping to move her into memory care is exhausting, physically and mentally.  And the fact that I’m far from home, out of my own environment and comfort zone sure doesn’t help.  Sometimes I look in the mirror and I just wonder how we got to this point.  Life has a nasty habit of just sneaking up on you in that way, doesn’t it?  I do have to say that my life here inworld and my blogging has been a true lifeline for me throughout this process.  It’s both given me another focus and provided an escape where I can forget about life for a while… lol, reminds me of that old Calgon commercial, “Calgon, take me away!”  But in my case, it’s Second Life to the rescue!!!

One Life to Live

So I’m away from home again, back in Florida, this time on a family emergency.  My mom (who is quite elderly) fell and broke her arm.  So I flew down to help take care of her. Since it’s become really obvious that she really just can’t handle things any more living on her own, we’re also starting the process of looking for an assisted living facility. It’s really sad that we’re at that stage, but I guess it’s all part of the circle of life. It doesn’t seem like all that long ago that I was still a kid, and I’m sure it won’t seem all that long when the time comes that I’m unable to live on my own either.  That’s just how life is.  All the more reason to live it the way YOU want to, and not the way other people think you should. (Of course it goes without saying as long as you’re not hurting anyone else in the process.) Unlike cats, we only get the one life, although within that life we get to live many lives… child, teenager, lover, spouse, parent, grandparent, senior citizen, and so many others… I’m realizing the importance of making the most of each and every one of them, to own them to the fullest, rather than just surviving… I only get the one life… here’s to life!

It’s funny, but no matter how old I get, I never forget all the little fantasies and fairy tales and stories I’ve read and seen throughout my life.  Little everyday things may suddenly bring one to mind, totally out of the blue.  Like when a bell rings, I might think of Clarence getting his wings in It’s A Wonderful Life.  When someone complains that they have no idea what to pack (including myself lol), I laugh to myself when I remember that the most important thing is a towel (A Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy).  And when I suddenly see a light or a candle brighten in a certain way, I always think of Tinkerbell in Peter Pan.  I know that some people will sneer at this.  But for me, I think that the ability to not only remember but to continue to see magic in the world around me is a gift, one that in today’s world I believe is increasingly valuable.  Of course I know it’s not real; but that doesn’t mean that the thoughts, the possibilities, don’t bring a smile, a lifting of the heart, a lightening of the step, in what can be a heavy, exhausting, depressing world.  And the fact is, magic comes in many forms. There’s magic in a beautiful sunset, in the night sky, in a brisk autumn afternoon, at dusk in the summer as the fireflies gather.  So believe like I believe, or don’t… go ahead and deal with things in your way, and I’ll deal with them in mine. We’ll see who smiles more!

Going My Way?

Well, I’m back from vacation and ready to ride!  Had an amazing time, feel refreshed & renewed, made a HUGE life-altering choice (we bought a house!), and am already back at work blogging (though I’m a bit rusty… I accidentally knocked off my freckles and forgot to put them back on!!!!). What’s nice about taking a vacation is that even a little break makes what was starting to feel a bit like a chore is now fun again… You’ll be seeing lots of new things going forward as I’ve added some new sponsors over the past weeks, and will definitely be blogging for various seasonal, fund-raising events throughout the fall and winter.  Can’t wait to see what all the designers create, and what I come up with to show them off!  And of course it’s fall, my favorite season, so lots of fun ahead! Singing and Dancing in the Rain

OK, so another classic movie has made it into my blog, this time a musical. You may as well know… I LOVE musicals.  I love to sing and dance to them… and although I’m pretty good at remembering all the words and all the moves, I unfortunately have absolutely zero talent.  Can’t sing a note lol. But I don’t let that stop me, because the fact is I FEEL great when I’m singing and dancing.  If the others around me don’t appreciate it, well, that’s just too bad lol.  Sometimes when it rains, when I’m in exactly the right mood, I hear that da-da-da-dum, da-da-da-da-da-da dum in my head, and I just can’t help it.  (If you know the movie, you’ll know what I’m talking about; if you don’t, shrugs.)  I’ll even admit that once, many years ago when I was in college and it was lightly raining when I left for a midnight astronomy lab, I actually sang and danced in the rain just like Gene Kelly.  Ok, ok, so it wasn’t “just like”, but it felt fabulous, and I’ve never ever forgotten it, even after all these years!  So let this pic be my little homage to one of my all-time favorite old-style classic musicals. And who knows, maybe we’ll both be dancing the next time it rains!  😉
