I have to say this was one of my favorite blogging shoots since I began blogging last year. I experimented for a while on my home studio platform, making the set. The awesome pose set includes the window/wall but on most shots, I found it left me wanting more… so I put two together to create more of a room, then decorated it for the holidays. In my head, I visualized snow falling outside, and so the search began for a wintry sim with falling snow that would allow me to rez… surprisingly difficult to find. Beautiful snowy sims, yes; rezzing allowed, yes; both together, no. Until I found Footprints in the Snow, which for a nominal group fee, allowed me to rez in the beautiful wintry scene with the falling snow. Set-up was easy since I’d already done it, I start shooting and OH NO! For some reason I never realized that if it was snowing OUTSIDE the window, it was also snowing inside my little room set! I was determined to make it work anyway, and interesting enough there are windlights that don’t pick it up that much (and others that really do, which is good to know for when I really want all that falling snow effect all around!).  I was able to easily edit out most of those flakes that did make it through, though you might wonder where some of those shadows are coming from lol… now you know! Personally, I think the final result is well worth all the work… maybe we’ll get lucky and have a snow day… hmmm, wonder how we’ll occupy our time?  😉

So after several days of dressing up for work in SL and looking very professional (if I may say so myself), it was time to just relax in some jeans and a sweater, and go on a picnic.  These separates were PERFECT, though I admittedly had an incredibly difficult time choosing which pattern to wear on the sweater, they’re all so cute! But what REALLY threw me was that while I was taking my pictures, the sim started to be dismantled! At first, I couldn’t quite figure out what was wrong with some of the photos… then I realized it was because the background trees were missing… then it was the barn… it was quite disorienting… at first, I thought I accidentally derendered everything.  Once I realized what was happening, it was just really rather sad, because it was a beautiful sim that I had just learned about. Hopefully, it will come back, newer and even better than before!  A girl can dream after all, especially here in Second Life!  😉

It’s interesting that somehow I seem to suddenly be on a more business-look related kick, but the outfits that are coming my way in this style are just sooooo exceptional in terms of style, texture, and fit that I simply have to try my hand at this look! And the fact that I’ve never attempted this kind of look before these last two shots just makes it that much more fun and exciting, exploring new options for accessories, poses, settings, etc.  Brings back lots of memories, too, from when I worked in midtown NYC and had to dress like this every single day… not so sure they’re GOOD memories, lol, but memories nonetheless! 😉

I LOVED this outfit the moment I saw it. It’s just all about balance, which is so important, in ALL aspects of life. Somehow to me, this look evokes a sense of the past while being very on target with present fashion. The white texture — which stays constant — is wonderfully detailed; the choice of blues can make getting dressed a bit difficult (this one, no this one, no no maybe this one)!  The way it crosses at both the chest and at the hips/legs is extremely flattering, sexy while totally maintaining a level of class.  Thankfully, it’s Second Life and I don’t have to worry about staying warm! 😉

Queen for a Day

I’m feeling quite royal and privileged in my look tonight! Of course it’s mostly hidden by this absolute stunner of a gown, but I’m wearing a pre-release of the new V5 Tonic body and it’s definitely giving me that inner glow. Although the Tonic body has always been my favorite, the V5 is a newer, smoother mesh that’s even more beautiful. What does smoother mean in terms of mesh (and yes, I asked the same question)?  Simply put, smoother means easier on the eyes and smoother for animating. Not only is the body itself improved, but it comes with a brand new HUD filled with LOTS of goodies that I’m still discovering — more detailed nipples, more skin tones, more neck sizes, more layer controls, built-in heel lock, more nail polish colors, and the ability to wear different colors on different nails (is that cool or what !?!).

And that’s what’s going on UNDER the gown! Once again Rene Broux of Allure Couture has outdone herself with another stunning exclusive for the now renamed and excitingly relaunched TheEvent (because it’s The event to go to!)… the fit, the texture, the GLOVES (OMG how I’ve missed my gloves, I haven’t had formal elbow-length gloves since I went to a mesh body), the little semi-transparent shoulder drape, the included gold high heels, this is another formal gown to die for… perfectly accentuated by the tiara and earrings from Stone’s Works, which give the added touch of finery, without being too glitzy or overpowering.  I had originally wanted my picture to be one of going to meet the queen at Buckingham Palace, but couldn’t find anything remotely similar here on the grid. Instead, I’m definitely fit to be Queen for a Day myself… or two… or three… so you can come and meet me… 😉

The Rock Your Rack Event opens tomorrow in Second Life, and it truly is one of those wonderful events on the grid that shows the very best of what SL is all about. It’s two weeks of music, clothing and art, and many talented designers have created limited editions where 100% of purchases goes to Breast Cancer Research. The fabulous top I’m rocking above is from Moz Designs, is one of these limited editions. It comes in 7 totally different patterns and 7 solids, but all share the same great fitted shape — I love how it really nips in at the waist without looking skintight, and then the little ruffle at the bottom just adds a little feminine flounce. One thing I’m constantly learning and relearning is that the one thing you can always count on is CHANGE. Sometimes it’s good. Sometimes it’s not. Often, it’s a combination of the two. And this is fall, where the very essence of that change is all around us, so naturally, there’s lots of change happening in my life too. Let’s talk about the good!

It’s been a rough week. I’m so glad it’s Friday, not that it really means much any more considering that I’ve started a new online business where I work from home on the computer all day.  Still, weekend days SEEM different somehow. Perhaps it’s just mental carryover from all the years of getting dressed and commuting hours back and forth to a “real” job and then coming home to change into an outfit like this one.  (How’s THAT for a segue!?!) Just by a quick glance, you can tell it’s an Allure Couture outfit by the attention to detail — the buttons at the front of pants, the zippers at the tops of the thighs and the open ones at the ankles (I LOVE the ones at the ankles!), the inset above the knees, the splash of pattern on the back pockets, the loose folds of the top, the way the bra fits… you just feel so relaxed and easygoing yet still so sexy when wearing this.  And that’s a killer combination… both for you, and for anyone else.  😉

There are so many parts to putting together a blog, which you already know because I’ve talked about how much I love putting them all together. Discovering the detail in an outfit like this from Sweet E’s is a pure joy — the sheer sections have a wonderful “netted” texture, and while they’re large enough to be quite sexy, they don’t cross over to become what I would consider trashy; on the solid pieces, the pattern is beautiful and rich, ESPECIALLY on the boots, where the lacing and the grommets took my breath away they’re so realistic (as are the zippers!); the chain link “straps” connecting the top and the bottom are extremely well done… all in all, just really well-pleased with all the textures and shading. Found the perfect jewelry, hair, skin… And then I go to do the shoot in a fabulous new sim like Kekeland-Bardeco, only to get knocked out of position while standing out of the way shooting in a doorway — wearing a pretty large modeling light I’ve built btw which simply can’t be missed — by other avi’s not once, but twice, and one of them kept running into me repeatedly.  AND NO APOLOGIES!  NOT ONE! I mean, seriously???  I’m a New Yorker and we have a reputation for supposedly being rude, and I would at least say “excuse me” if I banged into someone, let alone someone doing a photo shoot.  Well, that’s my rant for the week (ok, at least for the day lol)… 😉
