And the holiday season is off and running!  And that means two very specific things here in Second Life — various types of holiday hunts and fundraisers!  I’m featuring items from two seasonal events in this post.  Boo Bunny Hunt 9 is an Evil Bunny Production filled with fun and great Halloween-themed items from a wide range of designers; OutShop Cancer is dedicated to raising funds to help fight breast cancer.  A huge roster of designers have done their part by creating and donating fabulous items to the cause.  Now it’s your turn, to shop till you drop and work to OutShop Cancer!  Two events that join an already busy roster of ongoing monthly events, with many more to come!  Ready, set, go!!!  Just one small word of advice… avoid graveyards after midnight!!!

Leopard Sighting

I recently saw a t-shirt that said “To me, Leopard IS a neutral.”  It stuck in my mind because I have a friend for whom that is very very true… she’s ALWAYS wearing or carrying an animal print (usually leopard) in some way, shape, or form.  I don’t have the personality to do that in RL… I have an item here and there, sure, but it’s just not my normal everyday style.  Of course in SL, I LOVE wearing animal prints… especially when they’re designed with such creative flair as this sparkly little dress… and if anyone thinks I’m overdressed because I’m not out for the evening, well, I can just claim that in my dictionary, leopard IS a neutral! Sometimes you just need to run away and forget what’s going on, even if it’s only for a few hours.  The fact that I’m blogging is in itself a sign that my plans didn’t materialize as planned.  The car was packed, we were ready to go, when we realized that with everything blowing up and needing attention that we really needed to stay and deal with the “old” house before we took off to figure out things with the “new” house.  Costs keep escalating.  Time is getting shorter.  As you can imagine, the stress level is skyrocketing.  This is when people go looking for a short-lived distraction, something to completely keep their minds off their issues for even a few hours.  For me, that distraction continues to be Second Life and my blogging.  So even though my hands may be too full to meet my normal schedule of blogging, you’ll still be hearing from me.  Hope that’s good news lol! I’ve always loved waterfalls, big ones, small ones, doesn’t matter.  Something about the sound, the feel, that freshness in the air all around them is just so invigorating both to body and spirit.  The big waterfalls are inspiring and mesmerizing; little ones entice you to draw ever closer to their magic.  A mystical way to start a fae’s busy day!  Happy shopping!

Contrary to common human belief, being a fae is not all fun & games.  The fantasy kingdoms need protection, & in exchange for the ability to relax & enjoy the beauty of the realms, many of us step up & do our part to help protect & ensure their continuation, both against threats from the less-friendly denizens & those from the outside world.  The main problem with patrol is not to get too distracted by the beauty or the hidden secrets when you stumble upon them, or you can find yourself lost in wonder & exploration. Next time you wander in the forest, keep an eye out & listen for the fluttering of wings… you never know what you might find!

Irresistible to Mermaids

I’m physically a mess when it comes to my lower extremities.  I recently had surgery to repair a torn meniscus in my knee, but for years I’ve suffered with painful feet and ankles that swell to the size of softballs which I’ve just learned is due to severe arthritis.   Perhaps this is why the idea of being a mermaid is so appealing to me, to not have to deal with all the painful difficulties I have with my legs (though somehow I think I’d probably be at the mer-doctor to see about a painful crick in my tail lol).  In any case, I absolutely loved the whole mermaid look I created back at the Fantasy Faire.  And this truly awesome Little-Mermaid-inspired single pose and prop was just too hard to resist, so I brought her back from the depths in order to squeeze in a blog before the month ended.  Includes a wonderfully detailed scenic prop on it’s own bed of sand that includes the pose; fork is included too, though my favorite thing are the bubbles!  An awesome piece of decor for any underwater scene, even when not going through your collection!  And of course now that I’m back in mermaid form, I have the urge to flip my tail and go exploring the deep… happy shopping!

I’ve always had a special affinity for Alice in Wonderland.  In elementary school, I was often called Alison Wonderland (meant derogatively, of course), but it never bothered me because I secretly liked it.  (I didn’t like it as much when they called my best friend and I Tweedle Dum and Tweedle Dee, but hey, it wasn’t anywhere near as bad as what some other kids got). I loved the story and its drug-fueled imagination (of course, I didn’t understand the drug angle until much later), falling through a hole into a new world, kind of like Dorothy landing in Oz.  Alice was never my favorite character though; I always loved the Mad Hatter and the Cheshire Cat.  So when I saw this outfit for the Down the Rabbit Hole event — which is a really fun theme, and no, you don’t have to drink anything or shrink small to go! — I knew it was mine to blog.  And I do mean MINE, not my alt who does the fantasy blogging, but MINE.  I mean come on… the provided hair is RED, and that means it’s MINE.  What a relief knowing that I definitely have the perfect outfit all set for Halloween!!!

One of the things that makes blogging so much fun is the variety.  When it comes to fashion, putting the look together is obviously the most important, but it doesn’t end there.  Sometimes you want a simple look without a lot of distraction — just find the right pose and the right background and the right windlight, etc..  But other times, the “vision” really calls for you to make a scene, which means on top of all that you need to find the right props and place them “just so.”  To tell the truth, though, I have tons of fun doing that, and really admire those bloggers who do that each and every time.  I tend to lose patience, not to mention it can get costly.  That said, I had a ton of fun (I won’t mention the ton of frustration with the house that WAS in the background, ruining the shot), and ended up with some great decor items!  To me, that’s definitely a win-win!

  • Swimwear:  GGVG Fashion – Sunset Bikini & Sarong.  Let’s be honest: there are a lot of great swimsuits out there, from bikinis to monokinis & more.  It really takes something extra to make one stand out.  GGVG has done that with three different suits by adding different “somethings,” in this case a truly awesome sarong.  Don’t get me wrong, the suit itself is STUNNING… the fabric is small without being too small if you get my meaning, the straps wrap double under the breasts for added interest, the bottom straps sit high on the hips.  As I said, stunning.  The optional sarong though is what really sets it apart, it’s much more substantial than others I’ve seen, but the way it’s tied & the way it’s hung is so natural & still gives full view of the suit from the front, it’s exceptional.  And of course there’s a HUD, so you choose from any of 15 textures (solids & prints) for the top & the bottom, & 8 for the sarong.  Also available in a lace & beaded version.  Sized for Tonic, Slink HG/P, Belleza F/I/V, Legacy, & Maitreya.  Both are EXCLUSIVE at the July  Swank Event, which opens tomorrow July 7th.
