I’ve been so happily busy — obsessed even — with spending every spare second  that I’m not putting together fashion looks over at the Fantasy Faire.  Between shopping and exploring and doing on-site photo shoots, time has been FLYING by.  And then suddenly I realized that it’s already May and that the Faire will close in just a few days on May 7th and I’m panicked that I never spent any time with all the wonderfully awesome non-fashion goodies.  So I immediately unpacked all of my outdoor favorites and started seeing what would work together to create a dino-mite scene (sorry, sorry, sorry, I haven’t had my coffee yet!) that would fit in a photo frame.  For some reason, the song ‘Midnight at the Oasis’ started playing in my head (maybe it was on Fantasy Faire radio at the time? I honestly don’t know), but I can’t get it out of mind, and it was that or something about a meeting getting off to a rough start, so that’s the title I’m going with lol.  And now, back to our regularly scheduled program!

  • Dinosaurs:  Prehistorica – The Dawn Kingdoms – Amazing, amazing, totally AMAZING!!! I admit I went a bit dino crazy, but these are just so incredibly realistic (well, it SEEMS realistic, having never really seen a dinosaur I guess it’s all conjecture, now isn’t it?) that I just couldn’t help myself.  If you want to ride — or be — a dinosaur, this is definitely the place to go because they not only have all these to buy they’ve created a prehistoric land where you can RIDE since it admittedly takes quite a bit of space when you’re on one of the big ones.  All of what I used to make this scene & more are available at Fantasy Faire in the Faireland of Khumbala; you can TP direct to Prehistorica’s booth HERE:
    • Allosaurus Animesh Creature (far right with me on top!) – just one of a line of creature “pets” that are rideable or free-roaming.  The controls are really easy to manage, & he roars on command.  Such fun, I can’t stop grinning!!!  See the ad below for more details.

I LOVE FANTASY FAIRE!  I just can’t get enough, between wandering the 22 lands (22!!!!!), each one with its own distinct personality and hidden secrets, shopping (yes, admittedly it’s probably what I do most), the events, looking at everyone else and the characters they create (though I have to say I get a kick out of the “regular” humans who IMHO always look a bit like they woke up in OZ lol!), even the radio!   I actually keep Fantasy Faire radio on at my home so I can always know what’s going on even if I can’t actually be there (putting together looks or sets for blogging can take quite a bit of time).  The Faire is open ONE MORE WEEK!  The gates close on May 7th… eek!!!! It’s the premiere event for Relay for Life, helping support the fight against cancer.  And for fantasy folk like me, it is definitely the most wonderful time of the year!!!!

Defender of the Fairelands

I know, I know, this is so NOT typical of my life as a fae.  But in a way it is… I’m often positioned as a defender, a guardian (NEVER as the aggressor)… this is just the first time that I’ve shown the “after”, the result of being called to actually DO what I’ve promised time and again, defend the lands.  These lands were created with the blood and sweat and creative juices of so many… and I willingly defend them against all who might cause grief so that the Fairelanders can immerse themselves in the wonders of it all.  Fantasy Faire 2023 is in full swing, open from April 20th through May 7th, at which time the gates will close until next year.  Three weeks’ time, jam-packed with entertainment, quests, exploration, stories, and (of course) shopping, shopping, shopping… and most importantly it is one of the megaevents  of Relay For Life of Second Life.  RFL of SL is a part of American Cancer Society’s Relay For Life fundraising, and Fantasy Faire 2023 is the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world, bringing their own visions together to support the American Cancer Society’s vision of a world without cancer.  It is a DO NOT MISS event, whether you or a loved one or just someone you knew have battled or are battling cancer, or if you just want to see the epitome of creative spirit that lives in Second Life.  Come, join us in the Fairelands!

It’s here, it’s here! The most glorious time of year for anyone who plays fantasy, has any interest in fantasy, or just appreciates the incredible creativity of those who build the fantasy realms.  And yes, I’m talking about Fantasy Faire 2023, the premiere fantasy event in Second Life.  This event is so huge, so special, that it only happens once each year.  This year, the gates to Fantasy Faire opened a few days ago on April 20th, and they will stay open through May 7th.  A benefit for the American Cancer Society, its theme is Many Realms – One Vision.  Fantasy Faire 2023: Building a World Without Cancer.  Celebrating its 15th year, Fantasy Faire 2023 is literally the largest gathering of fantasy designers, enthusiasts, roleplayers and performers in the virtual world.  It is an event filled with EVERYTHING that Second Life has to offer.  To quote from the official press release:

There Be Dragons…

I do love dragons!  They are a part of fantasy lore — or even history if you believe some of the tales from ancient times (perhaps a type of dinosaur that managed to survive for a few eons???) — that seems to have universal appeal.  I myself prefer the gentle-souled version (Puff the Magic Dragon et al) as opposed to the fierce selfish destroyer (like Smaug).  But here in SL, mine are more like the mountain banshees in Avatar… wild but able to be tamed and then bound by loyalty to the one who mastered them, partners in battle, domesticated to me and ONLY me in the garden.  And oh, what a garden I’ve built for them, a riot of color, a private little hideaway where we can simply be…  Now that IS a fantasy worth having, don’t you think?

I feel so bad for my poor human counterpart.  Real life has been quite stressful the last several days, trying to get things in order for a huge overseas trip that begins at the end of this week, with seemingly simple tasks morphing into monumental headaches.  I had to literally beg for a few hours of time to explore more of the exceptionally creative Fantasy Faire — open only until May 8th!!!! — and to create this third look.  Sometimes it’s amazing what you can do under pressure (then again, other times you get crushed lol).  But I don’t have a single moment to waste… I hope to get at least one more fantastic trip through the faire before going to sleep for most of the month…  But oh, the wonders I’ve seen!!!!  Don’t take my word, go see them yourself, now before time runs out and the portals close for another year!!!!

In some ways, fae are not so different from humans.  We too have wishes, ours just tend to be more centered around nature and the heart, and less about power and prestige (though there are certainly some of THOSE types in my world too).  Right now, there is just so much unrest in that real world out there, so much pain, that my current wishes are less about me and my world and more about “out there.”  But in times of stress, this fae believes that surrounding yourself with the beauty of nature and the wonder of fantasy becomes even MORE important… a small escape into a stressless environment where peace, love and beauty reign.  Wishing that for you, me, and all who share the desire to live in harmony…

Fantasy Faire 2022 is in full swing.  If you haven’t been there yet, this is a MUST SEE.  Seriously, do NOT miss this once-a-year event.  All the details about this year’s Fantasy Faire are HERE, for the shopping, the entertainment, the hunts… and remember, this is a Relay for Life event, so it’s all to benefit a cause every one of us can support, the eradication of cancer.  You have no interest in “that fantasy stuff”? Well, you’re in Second Life, so if nothing else you should be able to appreciate unique fabulous builds, and at FF there are 20 totally different and incredibly impressive lands.  And who knows? That adorable dragon or centaur may just steal your heart or one of those incredible skins for your horse or maybe even that set of gossamer wings.  Or hair.  Or skin.  Or beautifully colored flowers and plants.  Or home decor.  Or, or, or… you get the idea.  There’s something for everyone at  Fantasy Faire, open through May 8th.  And if your life has been touched by cancer in any way, there’s quite a bit dedicated to loved ones lost.  (The Faireland of Living Echoes, where this pic is taken, is a prime example of that.)  Me, I’m spending as much time as I can at the Faire (which sadly is not as much as I’d like), but even if all you do is a quick visit, it’s one you will feel was well spent…

“The Fairelands have returned from the Mists; twenty fantasy worlds forming a circle of lands, a chain of people across the many realms. Welcome home, Fairelanders!”

I can’t tell you how my heart soared when I read these words on the Fantasy Faire 2022 website!  As a fae, this is the most absolute best event of the year.  So many designers, so much creativity, the sheer breadth of what these artistic souls create first in their imagination and then in all its virtual glory, it’s staggering.  As an official blogger (yay!!!!) I started seeing a few items this past week; we had early access in the fairelands ONE day early… I spent my entire time just visiting every one of the 20, yes 20!!!!,  Fairelands… it seems like each one elicited a heartfelt “wow, this is my favorite”.  A taste of 20 different worlds, staggeringly different…  To me, there’s nothing like creating a character or scene with just a few of the amazing things items available at the Faire… and to think that as a Relay for Life (RFL) event, the whole impetus behind it is to help bring another fantasy world into being, a world free of cancer.  I am so thrilled, so honored, so humbled, so proud, to be even the teeniest part of this fabulous event.  The Faire just opened April 21st and the portals remain open through May 8th…

To quote from the website, “The Faire has long been considered the premier annual shopping event for fantasy-themed merchandise in Second Life, showcasing fantasy avatars, clothing, furnishings, gadgets, and exclusive items by 250 of the grid’s top fantasy creators. In addition, Faire visitors enjoy dance and theater performances; attend auctions, art galleries, and a Literary and Film Festival; and share in an interactive quest and roleplaying events and classes.”   For anyone who spends time in this virtual environment of ours, whether you play as fantasy or “reality” it doesn’t matter, seeing the imaginations at work here is an absolute must… I’ll see you there, but I can’t say if you’ll recognize me!!!!  And I’m off, back to the Faire!!!!

Today’s the day…  the 2021 Fantasy Faire is going to end.  I’m so very thankful that it was extended through today the 12th (it was scheduled to end on the 9th): in the last few days I’ve managed to more deeply experience some realms that I’d barely touched upon earlier, not to mention pick up so many wonderful finds for both my home & garden and for my appearance.  Fantasy Faire has already relayed more than $86,000USD to help fight against cancer, and I’m proud to say that more than a few of my precious lindens are in that count!  (In fact, though my heart and mind are sad that FF is ending, my wallet is very very happy!).  I do want to say that I’ve been so very impressed by so many fantasy designers, and have been inspired to take some new risks and experiment with my look more than before. .. I even went out and bought some new land to create my own fantasy hideaway, rather than continue living in my Linden treehouse (that’s where yesterday’s post was, on my new land!!!)  But I couldn’t let the Faire end without at least one more post, one more character… not a warrior, not a princess, but more of a priestess, getting ready to close the portals till next year…  Spreading a little fairy dust in these few words, wishing you Happy Shopping, and a wonderful end to your Faire experience.

  • Outfit:  Dark Fairy Fashions – Ageate Gown (Agate Galaxy).  A medieval velvet gown with cropped shoulders, finger sleeves, & a metallic gold belt, Ageate is a perfect addition to a fantasy wardrobe!     • Skin:  Lazulien Gemstone Skin, worn in Bahliea.  Every skin from this designer is highly detailed, gorgeously styled, & pure fantasy to its core.  I just love the subtle texturing/shading of this skin, which is available in 25 color variations; gemstones are on the tattoo layer.  In Bom/Omega/mesh body & head applier versions for both male & female, plus add-ons for nails, Uni ears, etc., so it should work for just about every avatar. 
    • Horns:  Sanya Decohorns, which are 100% custom design, have two different color HUDs available (color or fade; I’m using the fade); both HUDs include options to individually color the horn base, the metals, the skulls, ribbons, tassels, & gems.  Unisex, moddable, & resizable!
