Fantasy Faire Extended!

I’ve been so excited that Fantasy Faire was extended!  Instead of ending yesterday, it’s now running through the May 12th.  This not only provides the opportunity to see and explore things I might have missed, I’m now going back and purchasing all kinds of creations that I had loved but wasn’t sure that I could actually use.  I really need to stress that Fantasy Faire is not just for us fantasy folk!!!  If you appreciate creative builds, then you absolutely must tour the lands! There’s a brief summary of them all right HERE but they truly are something you need to see in person.  (And of course, keep in mind that this is a Relay for Life Event, so many many items are available where the proceeds go to the fight against cancer… shopping with a purpose!!!)  You won’t regret it!

  • Tylar’s Treasures – Tylar offers so many fantastic items to create the perfect fantasy setting that I have to admit I had a hard time choosing!  All items are still available at Fantasy Faire; the Faire store is in Ostara, HERE.
    • Dragon Stone Arch – offcenter, front; with animated fire-breathing dragon!  Dragon comes in different colors (I used Magenta). See the ad below.
    • Elven Flower Daybed – shown on right; amazing garden decor, animated with sits & dances (you can spot me sitting there, taking a much needed break!), with little whimsies emanating for that bit of sparkle! Comes in adult & PG versions. See the ad below.
    • Woodland Court Falls – center, back; waterfalls are (of course) animated (NOTE: I built the little pond, since it’s really made to go over water, but works awesome on land too as you can see).  See the ad below.

I have such mixed feelings this week… It’s the last week for my favorite event of the year, Fantasy Faire.  I’m starting to feel the pressure that no matter how many times I’ve gone and rambled just to see what I see, and how many totally directed shopping trips I’ve done, and fitting in a few marvelous events here and there, there just seems to be so much I’ve missed!  So on the one hand I’m thrilled to be flying around the Fantasy Faire almost every spare moment that I’m inworld, and I’m listening to Fantasy Faire radio as much as I can, but on the other I’m sad that it will be a whole year before it happens again.  Sighs, my wings drooping… Of course, that is part of what makes the Fantasy Faire so very VERY special.  It IS only once a year… this kind of magic and creativity just couldn’t be recreated month after month, and the Faire is so much more than just a shopping event.  It’s a true celebration of everything fantasy in Second Life, and that takes an awful lot of planning and dedication and creativity.  And there are still 5 days left!!!!  Fantasy Faire closes on May 9th… all I can say is DON’T MISS IT, even if you’re not into fantasy itself, it will amaze you and there’s plenty that humans can appreciate (and buy for the cause too!).  Just look at some of these!

  • Outfit:  Viki – Zelina.  Sized for Slink HG/P, Belleza F/V, & Maitreya, Zelina is available in 7 single colors or as a fatpack with a mix ‘n’ match HUD.  All profits from the fatpack will be donated to the Relay for Life cause.  At the Faire store in Scrimshaw Warrens, located HERE.   • Flute:  Harshlands – Elven Flutes Gacha.  A partnership project with Belle Epoque, this gacha includes 12 different flutes that actually play music.  Original mesh, each flute has one different original song plus a bento animation for male & one for female.  As you can see in the Gacha key below, this Gacha includes two rare flutes (one of which I’m playing in the pic) plus one ultra-rare (the ultra rare includes ALL the songs plus one extra).  An additional flute is an exclusive Relay for Life 100% donation item.  Available only at the Faire store in Isles of Tarrin, located HERE.

I’m a fae.  I’m a fantasy character living in a fantasy world filled with magical creations.  But even I have been touched by cancer.  And I don’t just mean my real-world counterpart, who has been impacted by the death of loved ones, who has been watching a brother-in-law fade away due to a 911 cancer.  Here on the grid, I lost my bff years ago to an extremely rare cancer.  And that is the awful thing about cancer… it touches everyone in some way.  Some suffer through it themselves and survive; others watch their loved ones suffer, and all too often have to endure the loss that follows.  And yes, death is a part of life. that never-ending circle.  But that doesn’t make the pain and loss any easier to bear, even when it is a grief shared by many.  That is why Relay for Life is so important… it’s an easy way for all of us to do something to help fight against this disease, to help fund those who are looking to find a cure so that in some happier future, there will be less loss, suffering and pain due to cancer.

In traversing the 21 wondrously creative Fairelands of Fantasy Faire 2021, a Relay for Life event that has raised almost $44,000USD by the end of the 9th Faire Day (that’s halfway through the event), the realm of Ling Xiao Long struck a particularly resonant chord.  To quote the FF website, “Hua Long Dian Jing, is a Chinese proverb meaning “painting a dragon, dotting its eyes.” The proverb comes from a story about an artist who painted a dragon who came to life as soon as the eyes have been dotted. The design of this region brings this proverb to reality, manifesting strokes of ink brush into a 3D world.”   I found the stark juxtaposition of bright red against the black and white brush strokes to be highly impactful, evoking a sense of loss and living in a colorless world after having suffered and lived through a loss.  I highly recommend taking a break from shopping and going for a stroll through this realm (which is an event region and therefore without any stores)… but then go back and do more shopping with a purpose!  Let’s raise that donation amount to the cause!!!!

The Dark Awakening

Sighs wearily… this fae is not feeling so bright-eyed this morning… the portals were beckoning, and I stayed up WAYYYY too late last night exploring Fantasy Faire 2021.  I think (and I’m stressing the word “think”) that I’ve now at least touched down in every one of the 21 regions, but I’m really not sure since I kept getting distracted by all the sights and sounds (dancing up on a skyship in The Dark Awakening!), and yes, all the magnificent wonders in the more than 200 shops.  Fantasy Faire really is a feast for the eyes, though I personally find it a bit humbling when surrounded by such amazing creativity.  So many times I’ve crossed through a portal to say “oooh, I think this is my favorite realm” to just say the exact same thing when crossing over into another.  So much to see, so much to do, so much to buy, and so much good to contribute! As of the end of the 4th Faire Day, Fantasy Faire 2021 has already relayed L$6,246,147… that’s $24,984 USD to fight cancer! Whether you are fantasy folk or not, come explore the lands and see what it’s all about.  There’s a list of all the realms HERE; or there are handy slurls below to tp directly into six of them below.  If you feel wings brush by you as a fae rushes by laden with shopping bags, accept my apologies now and take a moment to say hello.  Remember, the portals close for the final time on May 9th… after that you have to wait a whole year!

It’s hard to believe that Fantasy Faire 2020 has come to its last day. I have reveled in my rebirth as a fae, and have vowed to continue living and exploring this Second Life of fantasy, even as these magical lands dissipate on the winds of time.  But I also want to take a moment of remembrance and to say a prayer for all those fighting the fight against cancer with which Fantasy Faire is aligned, for those who have fought and lost, those who have fought and won, those who are fighting this very moment, and for those who have not yet begun their fight.  There is after all a deeper meaning in all we do here, that a world without cancer does not have to be just a fantasy.  Hopefully what we have done here will help us towards our common goal of turning that fantasy into a reality, for all of us, for those we love, for everyone everywhere around the world.  There’s still one more day… one more day to explore, to join the final day of events, to shop with a cause, to live that life of fantasy, to support Relay for Life.  Won’t you join us?

I am beyond thrilled to have had the chance to not just explore and enjoy Fantasy Faire 2020 but to be an official blogger as well.  It’s allowed me to explore much more of the world of fantasy than I probably would have otherwise, to delve a bit deeper, go a bit further.  I love the beauty, the magic, the enchantment… let’s face it, I play as a winged fae (though now that I’ve put on a mermaid tail, I definitely see more of that in my future as well!).  But let’s not forget that even though that there’s where MY heart and imagination takes me, the fantasy world also has its much darker side, one of demons and evil and pain.  I’ll leave most of that to other bloggers with different tastes and bents than my own.  However, that doesn’t mean that I can’t dip my toe in and dabble in the lighter side of grey, avoiding the deep dark shadows but maybe stepping out of the sun into the shady spots… After all, that’s what exploration and fantasy is all about…

There are so many things I love about the Fantasy Faire, but to me the absolute best is the opportunity to explore all different aspects of what fantasy means.  For me, it generally means fae.  Which is why I thought the Faire was the perfect opportunity to slip into a tail and see what being a mermaid is all about.  That happens to be a lot harder than you might think when you don’t have a Maitreya body (seems that most mermaids are Maitreya) or you don’t already have a tail.  But after seeing mermaids zip through the waters at Melusina’s Depths (an absolutely amazing underwater realm at Fantasy Faire, with hidden grottoes and caves in addition to great shopping) and having fallen hard for the scale tattoos I’m now wearing), this fae was totally committed to seeing how the other half (well, maybe not half) lived…   As you can see, I succeeded, and I will be flicking my tail quite happily beneath the waves going forward on a somewhat regular basis, because it is just SO MUCH FUN!!!!!  Several items below are Relay for Life donations, so please, do a brand-new mermaid a favor and check it out… fighting against cancer is no fantasy!  Remember, Fantasy Faire is open only till May 10th!!!

  • Scales:  Nefekalum Tattoos – Ghost Blue.  These are THE MOST amazing scales because they use materials (which of course means you must have a head/body that supports materials & have Advanced Lighting Mode enabled in order to use them to their full potential).  I have to admit that these are the primary reason why I built my first mermaid avatar… I just had to have these scales!!!!  These unisex tattoos are also available in Gold & in Violet, all are RFL donations at the Faire store in Lamented Fens.
