The minute I put on this outfit, I felt ready to join the jetset crowd.  Images of yachts and unending days of sun on the water flooded into my brain.  I could just hear Robin Cook talking in my head lol! Well, that will never happen IRL, but it can ABSOLUTELY happen in Second Life.  Just to see how it felt, I bopped around to a few of the luxury yacht designers, and all I have to say is WOW!  If I could even choose, I definitely don’t have the prims to keep one moored at my dock… which means renting a special slip for it somewhere.  Hmmm, definitely something to add to the list to think about lol!  Just as IRL, I’m just not sure if I can afford the lifestyle lol!  But one thing is for sure… I can definitely rock the look!  Happy shopping!

Maybe it’s because I’m more active; maybe it’s because I’ve gotten to “that age”; maybe it’s because I’m no longer working.  All I know is that I’ve discovered the attraction of the afternoon nap.  And it’s not like I intentionally go take a nap; generally after a busy day, I’ll go to sit and read for a while in the sun, putting my feet up to give them a rest, and I’ll close my eyes for just a moment to soak in the sun… and then the next moment is an hour or on rare occasion when I’m really tired, two hours later.  Cats are very wise creatures; dozing in the sun is very refreshing to body, mind, and soul…  mmm, I see a glorious spot of sun on the lanai just calling my name.  Might be time for a nap lol!  Happy shopping!

Good News! The Home & Garden EXPO is OPEN!

Anyone who’s familiar with my blog knows that I’m a big supporter of charitable efforts in Second Life, especially Relay for Life, which if you don’t know, is a fundraising effort for the American Cancer Society.   RFL events are held throughout the year; each one is filled with wonderful shopping, entertainment, experiences, and loads of creativity.  Since I’m not a designer, I can’t create/offer items where I can donate the proceeds.  So instead, I utilize my blogging efforts as I can, and then I shop, shop, shop, and shop some more.  The Home & Garden EXPO is one of these mega-events, open from February 27th through March 21st. It’s such a win-win shopping experience… I score awesome creations by a whole range of designers I might already know and love or be seeing for the very first time… and my shopping dollars are going to support Relay for Life,  Shopping with a purpose… what a concept, and what a wonderful way to use this medium, this life, to support such an important cause.  All the details to this year’s event — donation items, 10L hunt items, auction items, entertainment & talks, the decorating competition, grand finale auction, a shopping guide, and more — can be found HERE.

  • Backdrop:  My View – Teahouse.  It’s hard to call this a backdrop, because it’s so much more.  It’s really more of a full landscaping item in that the flowers/outdoor vase are on all 4 corners… the doors open & close (& can stay open if you prefer), there are single sit animations included in the inside chairs (see the shot of the interior below); it’s so adorable, with so many little touches that elevate it. 100% DONATION to Relay for Life in Region 6 of the Home & Garden Expo, HERE.  The H&G Expo is open from Feb 27th – March 21st.
  • Pose:  Shutter Up – Good News.  As you probably know, I don’t often do couple poses since it involves logging into two different computers at the same time, & controlling two avatars, & I’m just not that adept lol! Lover Come Back

I’m not a big one for Valentine’s Day.  To me, it’s always been a somewhat painful holiday.  When I was young, the pain of not having my soulmate was devastating (as all things are, when you’re young lol!); when I got older and in a long-term committed relationship, it just seemed almost like a mockery of what love really is, creating expectations that could rarely (if ever) be met.  In real life, we barely acknowledge it… maybe my husband and I exchange cards, maybe we don’t, maybe I get flowers, maybe not.  It’s all good.  On the other hand, it’s been a bigger deal here in Second Life, where I’ve been with my partner for more than 13 years now and in this relatively small intersection of our lives, the annual acknowledgement and a formal date night are most welcome.  The grid just seems to get a bit frantic about it all (as does real life!); I prefer things simpler, more heartfelt.  Which doesn’t mean that it can go unacknowledged, but I’d be perfectly happy snuggling somewhere watching a beautiful sunset or the way the moon shines on the water, with just a few words to acknowledge what it means to be in each other’s lives.  To me,  THAT’s a perfect Valentine’s!

Hello 2021

I’ve been finding it very hard to blog for the last few days. I’ve been a bit overwhelmed by all that’s going on here in my country, threatening the very fabric upon which it’s based, blogging SL fashion has just seemed so unimportant.  But I woke up to the realization that it’s not just the big things that matter, but also all the little things that we enjoy, the small freedoms, the minor pleasures.  Collectively, they do add up to a big thing, and sometimes just one of those little things can momentarily be powerful enough to offer that small escape, that flash of a positive emotion…  not sufficient to turn your whole world around, but to at least bring a ray of sunshine bursting through the clouds, to offer that momentary respite from all the heaviness and doom and gloom. So I’ve returned to my second home and to my Second Life, and though it’s definitely quite a bit harder to escape, and forget, and concentrate, I’m back to give my blogging and my sponsors the attention they deserve.  After all, it’s a new year.  I’ve said goodbye to some old sponsors; I’ve moved one or two around from the human me to my fantasy other; and I’m welcoming some new ones too.  Here’s to blogging in 2021! The world rarely agrees on anything, but I would have to guess that just about everyone is happy to see the year 2020 end.  No, things won’t magically change as the page turns on the calendar, but closing the books on the year will hopefully mean one step in the right direction.  Although most of us will be “celebrating” very very quietly, here’s a toast to better things in the year ahead!

Trunk or Treat

Who knew that decorating pickup trucks for Halloween was a thing? Certainly not a city girl like me, but I have to say, it’s a pretty awesome idea! After accidentally tripping over the phrase in Google, I found out that it’s HUGE, & not just for pick-up trucks, but for anything with a trunk.  It’s considered an “alternative celebration”, & this year especially when most door-to-door trick or treating is “on hold”, it’s a great way to show off that Halloween imagination.  Some of the creativity on display is truly impressive!  I’m happy to be able to incorporate just a touch of it here in this post (though a bit spookier & with less “stuff” than how Trunk or Treat seems to be intended lol), since with moving and all in RL there is simply no time for Halloween decorations at my house this year…  Happy shopping!

  • Outfit:  GiuliaDesign – Ruoyo.  Not really my every-day style since I don’t tend to go “dark”, but absolutely perfect for the Halloween season or for those with more goth leanings in their style.  In black (of course) but with a perfect amount of color added down the laced & lace-edged sleeves (which are to die for) as well as a wide swath down the front of the dress.  With one of those really high “evil queen” type of collars, amazing strapped thigh-high boots, & a stylish eye patch, this outfit is a standout! Making My Escape

For the first time in what seems like ages, I took a break.  One whole day, away from packing, sorting, dealing with all the stressful issues that keep popping up.  We did a day trip… two hours away to a lovely town where we had a summer home together more than 30 years ago… our very first home together.  It was lovely to wander through a town, just relaxed with no itinerary, no agenda.  I even went into a clothing store and bought a top and wandered through an old-time candy store… I can’t remember the last time I went into a store to shop rather than just pick up some necessity.  And we ate lunch out, inside a restaurant!  It was a great meal, too, just another thing that helped make it a great day… and yes, we wore our masks the whole time (except while eating of course, though you did need to put your mask back on the moment you got up from your table for any reason) and I don’t think I’ve used so much hand sanitizer in a single day, since every store had its own pump and a mandate to use it upon entering. The break was invigorating, and now we’re working at a heightened efficiency and definitely doing so in better spirits.  I vote for more breaks and more shopping!!! Enjoy, but be safe!

Solitude

Solitude is one of those two-sided things… it can be sad and lonely, or it can be calming way to focus and replenish your spirit and your energies.  In the earlier days of Covid, many people had a bit too much solitude, but now that we’re all (hopefully!) more out and about, I’m finding those few hours of solitude are refreshing and necessary to my sanity, especially with all the craziness surrounding selling our house and getting ready for the big move.  I don’t smoke cigarettes, but I’ll admit that I did in my younger days (much younger lol!), and to me somehow smoking is always “visually” tied to relaxation.  Hmmm, I’m so relaxed I think it’s time to go do some serious shopping at all new September events!  Happy shopping!
