As a fae-elven mix, my gods have always been those of the natural world and of my peoples (and yes, that is a plural due to the duality of my nature).  As I wander through other civilizations though, I’ve often wondered how I would choose which gods (or goddesses) would hold the keys to my heart.  Would it be the wisdom of Athena, the beauty of Aphrodite, or Artemis, the mistress of wild animals?  But as a visitor, I do not have to choose.  I find myself drawn to different elements in several, and depending on the situation, my mood, and so much more, I definitely experience momentary favorites.  What I do know is that there is definitely a very simple beauty to the Greek pantheon, where you know exactly to whom you should direct your prayers, depending on the needs of your heart.  Which does raise a question… who is the goddess of shopping?  I think I’ll go with wisdom, because there are so many wonderful creations available, I need to choose wisely!!!!   May the goddess guide your choices as well…

I know, I know, I’m breaking one of the cardinal rules of this blog… I’m doing what we have dubbed “a double post,” or a single blog post that features two distinct photos.  They’re just both so necessary to the story… the romantic fantasy of this stunning gown combined with the dramatic fantasy of my face, a true flight of fancy demanding both the full shot AND the closeup. In this situation, you just can’t have one without the other.  So why choose? That’s the freedom of being a fae and, let’s face it, of having your own blog lol! You not only get to make the rules, you also get to break them whenever you see fit!  Let’s see where else my flight of fancy takes me… you just never know what wondrous finds await just beyond the horizon!!!! Sprinkles a little fairy dust for all, flutters my wings, and I’m off!

  • Gown:  Poet’s Heart – Shaza.   Shaza comes in four color packs or a fatpack of all 20 colors.  Each color pack has a HUD to customize the skirt (not just color, but gradient or solid!), top, & sash so you can change up the look as much as you’d like.  She is sized only for Maitreya & Hourglass, though since she comes with an alpha I have to say that she fits Legacy perfectly on me (with no deformers); in fact a small detail that I love is that Poet’s Heart always supplies TWO alphas, one with & one without feet, the latter being especially useful since fantasy footwear can be difficult to source.  Shaza was originally created for the Holiday Hunt during Christmas & New Year’s, but is now available at the main store for a regular price. I do love the beauty and wonder of a wintry landscape!  The world just takes on a sparkly, glittery quality, the epitome of a winter wonderland.  One of the things that’s so much fun being a fantasy blogger is that I not only get to dress the part, I get to BE part of the story, to become someone or something that just belongs.   Having just spent some time IRL with a little girl who absolutely adores the movie FROZEN, I have that vision in my head, so it was great fun to step into a similar role.  (However, I have NOT been so happy experiencing being FROZEN trying to upload to FlickR!!!!)  But although I may look as cold as ice, with my warm fae blood, I never feel the chill!  Sending a few fairy blessings your way to launch the New Year off to a fabulous start… happy shopping!

OK, so it’s not quite the light of  Earendil, but then I’m no hobbit… just a fae wondering what’s making that noise out there in the dark.  I’ve been noticing that I feel a bit defenseless when not in warrior mode, missing my sword or bow or magical weaponry.  But it’s not always appropriate to walk around armed, so instead I need to rely on my senses to protect me from whatever might want to harm me or those under my protection.  But this is life in medieval times… weapons need to be at hand, or we need to stay near home for even a modicum of safety.  And we always ALWAYS need to stay somewhat alert and on guard.

  • Dress:  Poet’s Heart – Earl Ingstad.   I have to admit that I shied away from this outfit when I first saw it, as not being fae enough for my style.  Wow, was I ever wrong!!!!  Yes, it’s more medieval than fae, & it’s more high-necked than I generally wear, but it’s such a uniquely wonderful look with elven detailing along the bottom edge of the dress, the sleeves, & up the front, & I totally LOVE the fur stole!!!  It really fits medieval life when that chill is in the air & central heating hasn’t been invented.  Earl Ingstad comes in four color packs or a fatpack of all 19 colors.  Each color pack has a HUD to customize the dress, the waist banding, the front, the fur, & metal for the fur chains separately, so you can change up the look as much as you’d like.  She is sized only for Maitreya & Hourglass (though she fits Legacy perfectly on me), & is available in the Casual Fantasy room at the mainstore. Why is there so much stress and distress in the world?  It saddens my heart, and all of the personal stress my human counterpart has been undergoing (some minor surgeries, end-of-year financial decisions, hosting a major dinner for the first time in her new home) is cascading over onto me.  In one way, I’m happy to share the burden and lighten her load as much as I can, but in the other way!!! I want nothing at all to do with all those human things, and the only stress I want to experience is in dealing with the crowds at major shopping events while I search for the perfect accessory or makeup, or battling evil, or questing, or… well, you get the idea.  If I’m built for escapist fantasy, then what is real life stress doing intruding into my existence? Well, here’s wishing for a brighter tomorrow, where stress is minor, and my Second Life world can remain peaceful, and loving, and fun.  Happy shopping!

Even a role-playing fae likes to dress up sometimes and try something a little different.  This opportunity to go Egyptian and dress for the age of the Pharoahs was one I couldn’t pass by!  I was tempted to look for the “King Tut dance” (think Steve Martin on classic Saturday Night Live), but to my mind, Queens Nefertiti and Cleopatra were way too elegant for that!  The look was really fun to put together, and even more fun to wear about the grid.  Both Egyptian items are available at the Fallen Gods Anniversary Market, which also has a hunt going on as part of the celebration.  I highly recommend taking a trip to the Land of the Pharoahs,  checking out all the fun items and events, and exploring this unique and creative sim!!!  Happy shopping!

I’m a fae.  I’m a fantasy character living in a fantasy world filled with magical creations.  But even I have been touched by cancer.  And I don’t just mean my real-world counterpart, who has been impacted by the death of loved ones, who has been watching a brother-in-law fade away due to a 911 cancer.  Here on the grid, I lost my bff years ago to an extremely rare cancer.  And that is the awful thing about cancer… it touches everyone in some way.  Some suffer through it themselves and survive; others watch their loved ones suffer, and all too often have to endure the loss that follows.  And yes, death is a part of life. that never-ending circle.  But that doesn’t make the pain and loss any easier to bear, even when it is a grief shared by many.  That is why Relay for Life is so important… it’s an easy way for all of us to do something to help fight against this disease, to help fund those who are looking to find a cure so that in some happier future, there will be less loss, suffering and pain due to cancer.

In traversing the 21 wondrously creative Fairelands of Fantasy Faire 2021, a Relay for Life event that has raised almost $44,000USD by the end of the 9th Faire Day (that’s halfway through the event), the realm of Ling Xiao Long struck a particularly resonant chord.  To quote the FF website, “Hua Long Dian Jing, is a Chinese proverb meaning “painting a dragon, dotting its eyes.” The proverb comes from a story about an artist who painted a dragon who came to life as soon as the eyes have been dotted. The design of this region brings this proverb to reality, manifesting strokes of ink brush into a 3D world.”   I found the stark juxtaposition of bright red against the black and white brush strokes to be highly impactful, evoking a sense of loss and living in a colorless world after having suffered and lived through a loss.  I highly recommend taking a break from shopping and going for a stroll through this realm (which is an event region and therefore without any stores)… but then go back and do more shopping with a purpose!  Let’s raise that donation amount to the cause!!!!
