Well I wanted to experience one last fall before I moved to Florida, and it looks like I’m definitely getting my wish!  There’s a definite feel of fall in the air; in fact, I’m finding it downright chilly in the evenings to the point where I’ve had to “upgrade” to warmer pjs and socks at night rather than my light little summer nightgown.  Brrrr!  When you find those spots of warm sunshine, you can’t help but stop and soak it in, feeling that nip all around that perfect spot of warmth.  It’s so beautiful and invigorating, it almost makes me start questioning why we chose to move… and then I try to move any joint at all, and my arthritis screams from the cold, reminding me that THAT’S why I want to get out of both the cold and the fluctuating temperatures.  As for the move, things are definitely “moving” along; should be another 4 weeks or so and we’re off!  And if I feel that tug at my heartstrings about leaving the beauty of fall behind, all I need is to remind myself that I have it here on the grid.  (And no, it’s not anywhere near the same, but it’s not as painful either!)  Happy weekend shopping!

Making My Escape

For the first time in what seems like ages, I took a break.  One whole day, away from packing, sorting, dealing with all the stressful issues that keep popping up.  We did a day trip… two hours away to a lovely town where we had a summer home together more than 30 years ago… our very first home together.  It was lovely to wander through a town, just relaxed with no itinerary, no agenda.  I even went into a clothing store and bought a top and wandered through an old-time candy store… I can’t remember the last time I went into a store to shop rather than just pick up some necessity.  And we ate lunch out, inside a restaurant!  It was a great meal, too, just another thing that helped make it a great day… and yes, we wore our masks the whole time (except while eating of course, though you did need to put your mask back on the moment you got up from your table for any reason) and I don’t think I’ve used so much hand sanitizer in a single day, since every store had its own pump and a mandate to use it upon entering. The break was invigorating, and now we’re working at a heightened efficiency and definitely doing so in better spirits.  I vote for more breaks and more shopping!!! Enjoy, but be safe!

Sometimes you just need to run away and forget what’s going on, even if it’s only for a few hours.  The fact that I’m blogging is in itself a sign that my plans didn’t materialize as planned.  The car was packed, we were ready to go, when we realized that with everything blowing up and needing attention that we really needed to stay and deal with the “old” house before we took off to figure out things with the “new” house.  Costs keep escalating.  Time is getting shorter.  As you can imagine, the stress level is skyrocketing.  This is when people go looking for a short-lived distraction, something to completely keep their minds off their issues for even a few hours.  For me, that distraction continues to be Second Life and my blogging.  So even though my hands may be too full to meet my normal schedule of blogging, you’ll still be hearing from me.  Hope that’s good news lol! Well it’s looking like the sale on our house isn’t going through, and it means there’s a lot of work to do before putting it back on the market.  But  we’ve realized that we can’t really make some decisions about what to take with us unless we go back and look at the house we’re moving to again, taking specific measurements, etc.  After all, we only saw the house once, move than a year ago.  And now that our tenant at that house has moved on, we’ve decided we’re driving down now (NY to FL) and start that ball rolling too.  We were originally going to leave today, but as a NYer, I just couldn’t see our doing that on 9/11, so we’ve pushed it back one more day.  Our house here is in a bit of a shambles from packing, so it will be quite a shock to be in a totally empty house instead, but we think it’s the smart thing to do.  We plan on being there about a week, so we should be able to establish a beachhead of sorts for moving in, since we understand it will take about a week for the stuff we are taking to follow us down.  It’s all just so overwhelming, I’m trying to look at it as a break.  Unfortunately, one of the big things we had wanted to accomplish was to get the internet and TV set up.  No problem, right? Three days to get the equipment we were told, and I’d do a self-install,  But when I went to order it so that it would get there the same day we do, I discovered that our tenant never cancelled HIS account.  And although he no longer lives there and has no legal right to consider it his property, we can’t set up OUR account until his is cancelled.  So at this point I’m looking at about 10 days with no internet access.  Which means no SL among other things.  Not quite what a blogger (or her sponsors!) wants to hear.  But there are worse things in life, and who knows?  Maybe a blogging break will do me good…  Bottom line though, this may be my last blog for a few weeks.  So while I’m gone, be safe, be happy, and have fun shopping!  See you later in September!!!

Of all the decades, there are two that always stand out in my mind — the ’60s and the ’20s.  Both have a lot of similarities in that they marked great social upheavals in terms of changing attitudes.  Of greater relevance to this blog is that both had their own distinctive  fashion trends, many styles of which are still popular today (that’s when miniskirts started).  I don’t know why but I absolutely adore those gorgeous dresses and gowns from the ’20s and have a special affinity for the fringes and bellbottoms and miniskirts and John Lennon glasses and so much more from the ’60s.  It’s just so much fun to dress in a modified hippie look.  And in today’s troubled times, the world could certainly use some additional love and peace.  It’s just groovy, man!

The Play of Light

I’ve always been fascinated by light.  How it streams through the clouds.  How it reflects and illuminates and hides and transforms.  When I was young, I had tried for a while to capture it in paint, but my talents in that arena are sadly lacking.  I’m absolutely amazed by what artists are able to capture.  Instead I turned to photography, where again I’m no artist but at least I can produce images that make me smile and nod and say, ok I like that.  Inworld I’ve been playing with windlights for quite some time; now I’m trying to teach myself how to use overlays in my photo editing program (and no, I don’t have Photoshop where it’s probably a bit easier).  I’ve discovered that adding a small light flare here or there can add a special little touch to an image and help bring out the magic of light.  I am humbled by what some of my fellow bloggers/photographers can do, and hope to be able to achieve even a portion of what I see…  To light!

Solitude

Solitude is one of those two-sided things… it can be sad and lonely, or it can be calming way to focus and replenish your spirit and your energies.  In the earlier days of Covid, many people had a bit too much solitude, but now that we’re all (hopefully!) more out and about, I’m finding those few hours of solitude are refreshing and necessary to my sanity, especially with all the craziness surrounding selling our house and getting ready for the big move.  I don’t smoke cigarettes, but I’ll admit that I did in my younger days (much younger lol!), and to me somehow smoking is always “visually” tied to relaxation.  Hmmm, I’m so relaxed I think it’s time to go do some serious shopping at all new September events!  Happy shopping!

I am thrilled that August is over, it’s been so stressful and exhausting, I’m hoping that the joy of moving will soon set in.  Unfortunately, we’re still in the stressful stage.  The house was inspected for hours on Friday; now we’re in the stage where we negotiate what needs to be done so that we can get a contract signed.  Then it’s on to actually getting it done, and of course packing.  Just to make it a bit more stressful, we’re driving to our house for a week or so since we only saw it once a year ago and need measurements before we start paying to move things that won’t even fit.  Looks like it will be another tough month to get my blogging done, but it’s such a needed escape right now!!!  All I need is a few more hours each day to get it all done lol… oh well, all I can do is what I can do.  I don’t know about you, but I need a shopping break!

I never tire of creating special little nooks and crannies on my property, so I just had to do one more little post for the month.  What makes this patio so awesome is how it’s already designed as a self-contained “nook”.  Enclosed by wood “walls” with gates that open, flowers, & a free-standing wood plant hanger with two hanging baskets, it’s incredibly easy to place with its rez box to create your own little hideaway for eating sweets to your heart’s content!
