In these last few weeks before the holidays when stress starts to build over finding last minute gifts, dealing with parties, or — for me — delayed orders, dying computers, and a nagging sore throat/cough, one of the more calming visions is just relaxing by the fire, doing nothing at all but being.  Sighs… if only it was possible in real life as easily as it is here.  But at least I can have it here, whenever I need it (and boy, am I needing it!!!!)  Just need to recharge my batteries, as it were, to finish up that holiday/birthday shopping and end the year on a high note… happy shopping to all!

What we’re wearing:

  • Outfits:   {-sonder-} – Holiday Pajamas.  The most adorable Christmas onesies, made for men, women, & children.  I don’t have kids in SL (unless you count the kittycat version lol), so I was sooooo happy that there were adult sizes of these! I’m wearing “Santa Pets”, made in sizes for Slink, Belleza, & Maitreya; Crichton is wearing the “Santa Onesie”, made for Slink, Jake, & Signature Gianni.  (“Icy Deer” style also available.)   At the December Swank Event, Dec 7th – 31st.

One of my favorite parts of the holiday season are the lights.  I just love walking the dog after dark, and seeing all the decorations lit up in the dark… even though they’re the same night after night, they still make smile, each and every time.  That’s why one of my favorite parts of this year’s SL Christmas Expo — which you hopefully know by now is the last mega-event of the year for Relay for Life and it’s fight against cancer (this event’s mission is specifically raising money to fight children’s cancer) — is the 2nd Annual Lights of Hope Decoration Contest, where they take those beautiful outdoor decorations that I enjoy so much here in the real world and do them up big time inworld.  I’ve included the poster below with some of the particulars, and to quote the formal description:

“Each of the builders has decorated the outside of one of their stunning houses in holiday style and brought it to the Expo.  Stroll the Holiday Road neighbourhood at the Expo and vote for your favourites by donation to the American Cancer Society kiosk in front of each home! 100% of all “votes” go directly to the American Cancer Society.  Be sure to pop over to the Real Estate Office in the neighbourhood where some of the builders have graciously placed out their entry home for sale in an American Cancer Society Christmas Expo vendor.  But wait there is more!  Linden Lab® Partners With The Expo to Help the American Cancer Society Fight Childhood Cancer!  Linden Lab® will be decorating Linden homes as part of the Lights Of Hope contest. That’s right,  teams of Lindens have been untangling lights, checking bulbs, inflating Santa’s and climbing to the rooftops to hang lights on their Linden homes.  Do we have a Clark Griswald amongst them?  Maybe a Martha Stewart?  It’s up to you to decide what team has the best-decorated home.”

I can tell you it’s absolutely beautiful to stroll through the Lights of Hope areas.  In fact, it’s where I took this pic.  So if you love holiday lights — and unless you’re a true grinch, who doesn’t? — go for a stroll and marvel at the creativity of all these wonderful designers!

So if you read my blog at all regularly, you know I’m a city girl, born and bred.  In RL, I’ve never lived on a farm, I’ve never even gone out to get a Christmas tree (that’s another story lol), and I’ve worn a cowboy hat.  But here on the grid, I can do all that, and what better time and place than at the SL Christmas Expo where it’s all about the magic and experience of the season? I talked a lot about how excited I am to be part of the SL Christmas Expo again this year in my post of Nov 25th, and to help support its mission this year to fight childhood cancer.  Now that this amazing mega-event is finally open, I’m ready to start featuring just a few of the many many amazing items that dozens of dedicated designers have donated to the cause.  This year’s theme is Believe In The Magic Of Christmas that’s spread over 8 beautifully designed sims, all making for a great holiday shopping event.  But as great as the shopping is (and believe me, it IS definitely great!), there’s so much more to see and do! The Expo will feature special events, including live performances, dance performances, djs, skating parties, a Snowman Building Contest, The Holiday Stockings, The Gift Of Hope Mega Raffles, a Christmas Tree & Wreath Lot, Photos with Santa, holiday raffles and gotchas, the Holiday Of Hope Ball, the Winter Breedables Fair — with several of SL’s top Breedable Creators donating One Of A Kind Breedables to be auctioned, including KittyCatS (as you all know, I’m one of those crazy cat ladies in here!) — and, back by popular demand, the Christmas Bazaar area.  And my personal favorite (which you’ll hear more about in a later post), the Lights of Hope Decoration Contest. Dench Designs:  The Ice Fountain.  Absolutely stunning winter decor for your seasonal landscaping, complete with male, female, friends (x2) & cuddle animations on the bench.  In addition to the “base” decor of the frozen fountain, bench, & 3 bare trees strung with white lights, extra decor is also available just by touching the top of the fountain. As I said in my last post, I’ve yielded to the fact that the holidays are upon us.  And I’m getting ready.  Not just in the commercial way by making lists and buying presents, but also by really working to support the SPIRIT of the holidays. I’m excited to be an official blogger for the SL Christmas Expo, for the second year in a row.  This year’s theme is the Magic of Christmas, and The Christmas Expo Mission is to fight childhood cancer.  If you follow me, then you probably know that I blog quite frequently for events supporting the fight against cancer, and I personally find cancer at its absolute worst when it strikes its smallest victims.  This event is really special, because it not only offers some of SL’s shopping at its best but it provides all of us with the opportunity to help give the gift of hope to those who really need it most at the time of year when belief in magic and good things can run strongest.

I know I’ll be blogging quite a bit about this very special event and all it has to offer, but there’s no way anyone could ever possibly cover it all with a few posts.  Here’s the official statement:  The 9th annual Second Life Christmas Expo will be held on December 5 – 15, 2019 and is a mega event that raises funds for the American Cancer Society. The expo will be supporting Childhood Cancer initiatives of The Society. All proceeds of the Expo will be directed to support research and palliative efforts to help children with cancer.

The 2019 Second Life Christmas Expo will consist of both holiday and non-holiday items from some of the best creators and designers in Second Life, spread across 8 sims!  The Expo will feature special events, including live performances, dance performances, djs, skating parties, a Snowman Building Contest, The Holiday Stockings, The Gift Of Hope Mega Raffles, a Christmas Tree & Wreath Lot, holiday raffles and gotchas, and so much more!   The Holiday Of Hope Ball, for the 9th year running, will be held at the Christmas Expo. We have our Winter Breedables Fair with several of SL’s top Breedable Creators donating One Of A Kind Breedables to be auctioned.  And back by popular demand is the Christmas Bazaar area.   This year’s theme is Believe In The Magic Of Christmas with beautifully designed regions, all making for a great holiday shopping event.

It’s already a whirlwind holiday season in Second Life, with even more events than usual and tons of wonderful must-have items both to buy and to blog, some supporting American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life (which I always indicate in the blog copy).  It’s exhausting, exciting, and sometimes tempting to take the easy route and go with “good enough”, but anyone who knows me, knows that I ALWAYS do things the hard way lol! Which doesn’t mean I’m not willing to take a moment now and then, and just stop, breathe and collect my thoughts. Now let’s think… who’s been naughty and who’s been nice? Need to keep those lists straight… 😉

I’ve been so inspired by what some other bloggers are doing in terms of setting up entire room scenes that I decided to give it a try. Of course, since I’m primarily a fashion blogger, I still had to put myself in the middle of it all lol! I was lucky enough to have found the sim Northern Lights, which is open to all — including rezzing! — even the houses (at least for now, since the sim is ALMOST complete but not quite).  I was able to find a house that completely fit my purposes — the room was the right size, the right angle, and I was able to easily derender the existing fireplace in order to replace it with my own so that nothing in the set was there beforehand other than the walls and windows, which clearly showed a beautiful snowy landscape outside.  Creating this scene was fun to do, it was extremely challenging, and I’ll admit that it’s definitely no accident that I’m having a martini!!!  But all for a good cause, because ALL the room decor that I used is from the SL Christmas Expo 2018, which runs through Dec 9th — all of it with items donated by designers with 100% of the proceeds going to Relay for Life! — and is therefore part of the fight against cancer!

There’s so much going on here, let’s first talk about ME and what I’m wearing (here’s a close-up because I’m a little lost in that room!!!):

The minute I knew I was going to blog both Chance and Miranda, the two formal holiday outfits in this photo — which are BOTH 100% donation items for Relay for Life at SL Christmas Expo 2018!!!!, I had a vision in my head… and no, it wasn’t of sugarplums dancing, it was actually pretty close to what I ended up achieving. That’s pretty rare… the vision generally morphs slightly due to necessity or ends up veering off into a totally different direction.  And I really do have to give special thanks to the sim Let It Snow! for such success in this case, because I’ll admit that I’d almost given the vision up after having completed two photo shoots at other sims when the owner gave me temporary rezzing privileges so that I could use my own couples pose here at Let It Snow! at what I felt in my heart was absolutely the one-and-only perfect pavilion for this shot. Thank you, thank you, thank you Milly!

Thanks also to my good friend Nick Patrono, who volunteered to stand in and model for Chance. I think Nick did a fabulous job, which is why the next champagne toast (yes, it’s off-camera) was to him! Thanks Nick for being my other half in this shot, and looking so good at it!!! 🙂

SL Christmas Expo is Open, Time to Go!

The SL Christmas Expo 2018 is finally open! In case you don’t know about it, this expo is in support of the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life. It’s only open for 10 days, but with so many wonderful designers donating 100% of the proceeds from EXCLUSIVE items and 50% from other select items, these 10 days provide more than ample opportunity for all of us to help Give the Gift of Hope. I went over today to take a peek during Early Access for bloggers, etc., and the Expo truly is amazing!  There’s raffles, hunts, gachas, entertainment, contests, ice skating, reindeer games, photos with Santa, and of course shopping galore! Lots to see, lots to do, lots to buy! So c’mon, car’s ready… here’s the address to the main landing area. Below you’ll find a link to the specific items I’m wearing that are not only available at the Expo, but are 100% donations!  Let’s go!!! 😉
