Well, it might not be Hawaii, but here in Florida where I now live, everything is a bit beachy year round.  But you know it’s REALLY summer when the beachwear and beach decor start showing up everywhere on the grid!  IMHO, one of the premier places to see  what’s new this season is at the Under the Sea event.  I’ve done some fabulous “upgrades” to both my wardrobe and my landscaping… take a look, and then go see them (and more) for yourself!  Happy summer shopping!

Summer is here!  It seems that I’m about to find out the truth behind all the warnings that summers here are brutal.  From what I’m told, some people have a very hard time handling it; others just seem to take it in stride and enjoy it with a slight shifting of activities. We shall see which category I fall into! Here on the grid, I’m starting to switch my plantings and other landscaping over from spring to full summer, and I’ve chosen a new summer skin (gotta have that tanned look!)… Some stunning new summer fashions out there, already rocking all the events…  Happy shopping and happy start to summer!  (On another note, I’m still learning the new lighting that came with the Firestorm update, since I held on to an earlier version for far too long… struggling a bit with that old neckline… any suggestions from other bloggers would be most welcome!!!)

Fantasy Faire Extended!

I’ve been so excited that Fantasy Faire was extended!  Instead of ending yesterday, it’s now running through the May 12th.  This not only provides the opportunity to see and explore things I might have missed, I’m now going back and purchasing all kinds of creations that I had loved but wasn’t sure that I could actually use.  I really need to stress that Fantasy Faire is not just for us fantasy folk!!!  If you appreciate creative builds, then you absolutely must tour the lands! There’s a brief summary of them all right HERE but they truly are something you need to see in person.  (And of course, keep in mind that this is a Relay for Life Event, so many many items are available where the proceeds go to the fight against cancer… shopping with a purpose!!!)  You won’t regret it!

  • Tylar’s Treasures – Tylar offers so many fantastic items to create the perfect fantasy setting that I have to admit I had a hard time choosing!  All items are still available at Fantasy Faire; the Faire store is in Ostara, HERE.
    • Dragon Stone Arch – offcenter, front; with animated fire-breathing dragon!  Dragon comes in different colors (I used Magenta). See the ad below.
    • Elven Flower Daybed – shown on right; amazing garden decor, animated with sits & dances (you can spot me sitting there, taking a much needed break!), with little whimsies emanating for that bit of sparkle! Comes in adult & PG versions. See the ad below.

Happy Rez Day to Me!

I can’t believe it, but I just had my 14th rez day… that’s right, 14… and I wouldn’t even have known it had a friend not wished me a Happy Rez Day. It’s funny how that happens… I remember having a huge party for my 1st rez day, and more intimate celebrations on my 2nd and 3rd.  Every year after that, they just became less and less important, until they generally passed without notice. The fact that I did become aware this year caused me to step back and reflect a bit on all the changes I’ve experienced here inworld… not just in the interface and the world itself, but for me myself.  I’ve been with the same wonderful man here for 13 of those 14 years, so you might think how many changes could there have been, but in looking back over our photo album (and yes, you can definitely see us age and mature!) and searching my memories, I realize how much I’ve changed and grown, just as in real life.  Second Life doesn’t represent the same things to me any more as it did in the beginning.  I still shop and go dancing and spend a lot of time decorating and landscaping, but I’ve been blogging for several years now as well as being a blogger-manager, and having work inworld does change the experience.  I would have to say that most of my friends are now bloggers, blogger-managers, and designers, as opposed to those I used to hang out with for music and dancing.  A more recent change is that I’m now splitting a lot of my time between fae and human, trying on different “attitudes” when creating my look of the day… creating even more of a split personality than I had when I was blogging a lot of heads lol!  I’ve also noticed how special it feels when I run across someone else who has been in here as long or even longer than I have… it’s true, there aren’t that many of us, and I think the key to being a long-term resident is that very change and growth… you need to evolve, or else SL (and life itself, for that matter) stagnates and becomes stale, boring, and deadly.  And on that note, I’m off to explore and shop my little heart out.  After all, it IS my rez day week! A Winter Wish

Tylar’s Treasures – Just as every piece of clothing you love may not fit your body, not all landscaping that fits your taste will fit your space.  With these three fabulous new main store releases (sold separately), you have the makings for an absolutely enchanting winter scene that are built to accommodate differing availability of space. 

  • Winter Gazebo.  Beautifully detailed, with ivy climbing up the columns, ice crystals scattered in the center, & icicles hanging from the dome.  Not only that, this fabulous gazebo is bento, which means that it’s animated with slow dances, couples & single animations (& yes, I’m using one of the single anims in the pic).  Available in both Cuddle & Adult versions.

Halloween just seems to go on and on, doesn’t it?  For a one-day/one-night “event,” it really dominates our lives for quite a period of time.  As I’ve said before, I’m not really into the dark side of things; I like my Halloween with a dash of humor as opposed to truly creepy horror.  You’ll never find me on one of those Halloween “experiences” in real life, no way no how.  But here in SL?  Although I’ve stumbled upon a few of what I’d consider to be truly distasteful settings, most of it is wildly creative mixed with a strong dose of fun.  The truly horrific part is that I need to totally redo my home landscaping — again — when Halloween is done!  Happy Halloween!

Tylar’s Treasures – Halloween Graveyard.  10 fun Halloween items for your landscaping pleasure!  If you can find them, use them all together, following the setup below (which is what I did) or create your own layout.  If you only find one or two, no matter, because each one is awesome all on its own.  The sense of humor on the five gravestones is classic, had me groaning & chuckling…  “Crisp P. Bacon, Fried to Death”, “Noah Scape, Always Felt Trapped”… the details are to die for (yes, pun definitely intended)!  The flowers at the graves are eyeballs, the ghost floats up & down, the bats are outlined in red & fly around the Crane Tree, the fog is gently drifting… just awesome! As my human counterpart talked about in an earlier post, my elven partner and I seem to have outstayed our welcome at her home.  Even though we had restricted ourselves to the farthest corner of the property in order to ensure privacy for both us and them, we were not so subtly encouraged to vacate the premises.  She wanted us out of there so badly she even gave me use of some of her premium allotment to get a Linden home.  Themed communities are relatively new when it comes to Linden homes; it was one of the things they introduced earlier this year when they updated the linden homes.  Now in addition to offering a variety of home styles, there are also four “first-generation themes”, one of which is Elderglen, or fantasy dwellings.  I had my choice of 4 styles, one of which really is pretty perfect for elven folk.  But the downside is that (a) personal outdoor space is almost non-existent, and (b) you only get 175 prims (not counting the house).  Since the outdoors and nature is very important to us as fantasy folk, I chose a home style with a rooftop for outside decor.  I’ve been working hard to make our nest both stylish and comfy, reflecting who we are, but the fact remains that when you only have 175 prims, every single prim is precious, and every design decision is critical.  Our home is situated right on the water, so I knew that I wanted outdoor seating where we could lounge and watch the sunset and the way the moonlight sparkles on the water.  I also knew that as a fantasy creature herself, one of my sponsors — Tylar at Tylar’s Treasures — does some amazing fantasy-style creations as well as many that could go “either way”, so that is where I went first.  And I was thrilled to find the Brantley Collection, which has now taken its place as the waterfront viewing spot of our new home.  (And with all the great animations that are included, I’m sure we’ll be doing more than just watching the sky and the water lol!)

OK, it’s getting hot. Hot and humid (just ask my hair!).  And I don’t know about you, but I can’t just always sit inside with the air conditioning.  Since I don’t live  on the water to benefit from cool ocean breezes, I’m always looking for comfortable shady little nooks to escape to with a book or whatever.  Now obviously here on the grid we don’t have to suffer through weather extremes, but that mindset of special little corners to escape and relax in has definitely followed me inworld.  I’m always looking to create an enticing new spot, and I found this set to truly be something special.  I think you will too!

Just because you’re in paradise physically doesn’t mean you’re happy.  These days especially, no matter where you are the pressures & stress & worries & inequities in the world can impact even the most resilient of us.  But whether you’re stressing over racial inequality, COVID19, personal issues, or even a lost shaker of salt, don’t let people tell you that YOU have no right to be upset or blue considering what you have or where you are.  Yes, some are lucky enough to be more privileged than others, while others struggle every day, but we ALL have the basic human right to feel upset or scared or just plain blue.  Of course, it’s true the other way around as well.  Those around you have the same right; it’s not necessarily bad to remind people of what they DO have, as long as you don’t belittle their emotions in the process.  Well, time to get off my soapbox and find that missing salt shaker, don’t you think?  Then off for more shopping therapy, which ALWAYS lifts spirits!!!
